Any one class can beat another class, IF they know how to freakin do it right and their opponent doesn't. Including mages.
Corrected.

Just my two cents, and I am by no means a skilled pvp player.
But rogues and locks are pretty hard for me, around a 20% if not a lil lower win rate.
Warriors I personally cant seem to win often at all, Again I'm not really thats skilled.
Feral druids destroy me.
Anything that heals I seem to be able to kill fast except a resto druid, I still win it just takes a long time.
I win about 50% of the Ret pallies I meet in arenas, depends if i am on my game a bit better than normal.
I've slogged my way to 440+ resilence with almost 1k spell damage and 30% crit give or take.
I PvP/PvE with the same spec since I'm not really that fast with the 17/0/44 PvP spec. Never got that good with it. I run 40/0/21.
THIS is personal experience, so save the put downs and L2P's.
As to the OP, Its to early for these questions by far. Though it is almost inevitable to ask them, the answer is that it will either be so OP that its nerfed first patch, or gets cut completely, OR finaly as was staed earlier it will be nerfed prepatch to resemble CloS.

Thats good news, though it'll have to be some pretty radical tweaking as I can't envision how they could.
How do they counter Fear-->DoT-->DoT-->Drain-->Fear....?
Maybe we'll get some kind of fear immunity?
New mage armour reduces the time of harmfull spell effects, ie dots last less, which is probably a small step towards that balance.
What id give for having the dots END, when the lock dies would be awesome, whenever i kill a lock i just die 15 seconds later from dots most the time unless i can get food quick ;)
But nah mages are cool, im looking forward to frostfire bolt to be honest in WOTLK but work needed on the new fire taknts or im going frost again lol
The dk's gonna have poisons and diseases which ice block can remove as usual, apart from that death grip pull ability there gonna be pretty kitable i bet. if they pull you then just blink and hope blizz dont give them 2 charges to use like warrs

... sounds like a lock in plate to me.
When was the last time your mage went into melee with anything? For that matter, what does plate have to do with spell damage?
I'll admit that I have a rough time with locks, but I
have
beaten them. They are tough for mages to beat, and the well-played ones are nigh impossible to bring down as a mage. Like someone's siggy said, "Less QQ, More PewPew."

Im sorry but i cant belive i had to make an account ot post this but seriosly same gear or not if u can easily beat a rouge or warlock with your mage then u should pick a diffrent class! I am a lvl 70 frost mage and the Only class i cant beat regularly is a pally! Rouges are so easy to beat is sick same with a lock, a mage has a ton of skills set to beat both lol need to learn to play your mage better ppl.
Why don't you give all the newbs / noobs some pointers then! How do you beat Rogues with all the abilities they have, and Subtley Rogues with Shadowstep? And all other classes? Give specific details of what you do to counter all their abilities, one by one, if you're so bad!@#$ in PvP.
I've not played in over 2 years, and when I played my Frost Mage, at level 53, I owned a 60 (Horde) Rogue, in World PvP; that Mage was my highest character, and I was a newb back then, too. So, if things are the same, I can understand. However, I've not played TBC yet, and when I read about Rogues' Shadowstep, I kind of believe all the things Mages say, on how hard (impossible?) it is to beat a WELL played Rogue now, with EQUAL skill, armor, talent placement, etc.
So, I'm half curious as to what you do in PvP, and somewhat half doubting your post... and if true, we don't know exactly if the Rogues you beat even had Shadowstep, or even knew how to play their class! Same with Warlocks, etc.
I remember having a hard time against Shadow Priests on my Frost Mage. But, I haven't played in years, remember. Maybe things changed... ?
Tell everyone your secret to "pwning" :)
If he replies sensibly, it will be the single greatest post in Mage history.

mages do have the best single target dps if they know how to do it, thats the whole trick.
a class where you could spam one button and win dps would be totally lame, my point is that mages have the potential to be the best single target dps'ers if you know how to gear and gem them, and what order to use their spells in :P
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
...
Oh wait, you're serious? Dumbass.
