Whats wrong with daggers?

In my previous post i received a lot of hate for daggers, but no justification. I was specced combat and used swords. Due to dungeon drops i switched to combat daggers. I decided to respec to subtlety with dagger in main hand and sword in the off hand. Since my respec i have seen a marked increase in my dps. I have started using ambush as my opener instead of cheap shot and i know i drop mobs much quicker. What am i doing wrong with the combat spec? (mostly spamming of sinister strike while use SnD and rupture). Now i am able to use ghostly strike and hemorage and i feel like im doing so much more damage. Thanks in advance for you elaboration.

I highly recommend that you do some more research as this topic is rehashed over and over. Here is what I would recommend as shown in the Compendium:
Combat daggers

Combat daggers, while not quite as effective as its sinister striking counterparts, is still a prime contender in raids. Some rogues take combat daggers over other specs because they enjoy its style and rotation more, others take it because they've got access to daggers superior to their sword, fist or mace alternatives. The DPS discrepancy between combat daggers and the sinister striking flavours is often exaggerated; combat daggers falls only very slightly behind the above builds.
That being said, there are not enough supporting talents in the Subtlety tree to benefit the use of daggers with the rotations in PvE or the Resilience in PvP.
Trust me, there are enough Rogues out there who have been around
forever
on these forums and others like
ElitistJerks.com
who will be
glad
to tell you when Sub Daggers is any good.

I think the main thing is that the instant attacks like SS and hemo simply benefit more from a slower main hand weapon since they generally have a better damage range (which is the most important thing to look at in a MH).
A sub build using ambush WILL give you better burst damage, but lacks the sustained DPS of a combat sword build for leveling.
Generally though, the only build most say is acceptable for daggers is a Mutilate build. But if you just wanna have fun (and not raiding, since they will definitely make you respec to combat swords to raid) go with what you like. After all, it IS only a game.

The reason combat daggers doesn't work so well is the long energy regen time required to use the prime special attack, backstab. This, in turn, means that you'll be unable to keep ruptures up as long, and also that you're more prey to random variances of luck with your crits. If you hit a bad spell, your dps will suffer accordingly. And as for mutilate, its random burst-y nature means that the longer a fight goes, the more likely its effectiveness will drop below the steady expected damage of a combat SS build.
