I'm not sure bout the resto part, but I suggest using faerie fire more often. In a party, it increases the damage dealt to the mob. If you're a healer, that means that the tank will be generating a little bit more threat which is never a bad thing. if you're a tank, it increases your threat and is great for pulling. if you're a balance then you'll help out even more.
For solo'ing though, you don't really need to use it too much. I toss it in after i pounce for a little bit of extra dmg.

Faerie fire doesnt make a huge distance if you're just lvling, seeing as how the mobs die too quickly for u to fully take advantage of it. but when you're low on energy and waiting for it to reach a usable lvl, why waste a gcd? as far as i've seen, faeire fire increases damage done by.. 50ish on hits, 100-200 on crits.
If you ever intend to raid, FF makes a significantly larger difference, especially if ur specced into
ImpFF
. it'll make EVERY melee hit on the boss hit/crit for more damage.
once you hit 50, your opening attack on most mobs is pounce, mangle, shred, Faeire fire, shred, mangle(shred again if you can), mangle till it dies.
as foley said, the non-set pvp items are excellent for pvE as well. i've seen almost every caster(dmg and healer) using one of the s1 maces/daggers/staves. and the set's are excellent
starting
choices.
take
Gladiator's Salvation
vs.
Light's Justice
or
Shard of the Virtuous
. Not much of a difference in stats, but a huge difference in attainability.

HHow bad is PvP healing gear for PvE situations, if i decide to do Kara and ZA later on?
KZ yes, ZA no.
ZA is not the next step after KZ. It is in fact harder than most content in SSC/TK/Hyjel. You should already be in at least some T5 pve gear before you even think about ZA.

However my point is that iFF does NOT make you hit/crit for more damage. iFF provides the same armor reduction than FF, and thus the exact same damage increase to each hit. What it does change is it lowers your chance to miss by 3%. This results in an increase in the number of hits and crits, but with the same level of damage.
Also, it actually doesn't bring anything if the melees are already hit capped. iFF is mainly an advatage for dual wielders and tanks, other shouldn't need to rely on it.

I always switch for Furor, unless i have rage left from the previous fight.
(well, when i'm using my friends feral, not much use doing it with my moonkin)

No reason not to use Faerie Fire (Feral) since it costs no mana and can only help you do more damage.
The PvP gear is fine as a temporary solution for getting you into Kara. It's certainly the fastest way to get geared up for raiding. If you have further PvE goals you will end up constructing a PvE healing suit, but if you grind out some PvP items you'll likely be better-geared than the people who have only relied on 5-mans.
