Only two Megaservers
=O this is cool. More games should do this.
The downside is that it will mean my name will most definitely be taken =(

I'm also gonna give it a second go. When I tried it way before release during a beta-weekend, I thought it was fairly decent. Of course, I only got to mid 20s, nowhere near enough to truly gauge the quality (MMO's live and die by what they have available at the level cap).
Since its F2P now, I figure a second chance is in order. What server are you gonna be on man?
Only two Megaservers, I'll be on the PvE one. Exile side, as its the more populated, and in the event El ever decides to play it, she likes the Aurin.
I'll probably go Dominion this time around. (mostly because it tends to be lower pop.)
I only got up to about lvl 18-20 with my previous two chars, but it is definitely a fun game.
Looking forward to giving it another go.

The names are two parts First and Last, so the odds of it being taken are fairly slim.

I don't remember this game supporting last names (Then again, its been over a year since I played it). If that's the case then it will totally be available.

Nah, it's a new thing since the megaservers.
I love Wildstar. Some really fond memories and the best combat of any MMO ever. Great raid boss design. Great setting.
However, I left for a reason - lack of content outside raids and very buggy inside raids - and I don't think it's been solved. The other thing for me is that I know what I like in that game (raiding) and so I'm either all in or all out, there's no point in me dabbling.
I've got it downloaded and I'll log in tomorrow probably but aside from a quick trip down memory lane I don't see me having any reason to log in again after that.
Makes me very sad. This game showed so much promise. The development up to the last 4-6 months was incredibly good. They just rushed to the finish line too quickly and launched without a complete game. They're still paying for that mistake now.

You just described 90% of all games. Ever. Mostly MMOs, but other games are just as guilty.
Its absurd how many games make this mistake. And they all pay the price for it without exception.
I had the same hopes for SWTOR, and with the fantastic story it boasted, it could have been an amazing contender to wow if they had taken the time to properly polish it, but nope. Rushed for Christmas and then F2P before even a year had gone by.
It is possible to bounce-back from a rushed launch. FF14 is the most awesome proof of that (seriously, that's a great game that had a horrible beginning, but is now steadily growing more and more). Sadly not many get the financial backing to make it possible (FF14 had the advantage that Square Enix had the single-player FF games to prop up their MMO, much like how blizzard has Diablo, Starcraft, HOTS, and Hearthstone to prop wow back up no matter how low it falls)
Edit: Also, I'm the same way when it comes to raiding, I either go all the way, or I don't bother going in at all. But since I'm already raiding in wow, and I don't see an end to that any time soon, I only play other MMOs to kill time, enjoy the story, and mostly wait during the dreadful and infamous blizzard content droughts.(##RESPBREAK##)520##DELIM##Rankkor##DELIM##

Yeah SWToR is another excellent example. They did an awful lot right and made a great base game and excellent stories... but they lacked the polish on some key areas.
However, I'm not sure I agree that this problem exists in 90% of games. The specific phenomenon I'm talking about is having 90% of the game's development being "it's ready when it's ready", time and care taken to lovingly craft the perfect game... then rush the last few months. I think that sadly most games never have that much care and attention, even in their early stages. I guess it's basically just even more sad when you can see evidence of loving development but the total package that is launched doesn't do that initial love justice.
FFXIV is kinda different in that they launched something awful and (I felt) completely uncared for and unloved. It bombed, and they made an entirely new game. XIV in name only.
Anyway, I logged in to WS today. It still looks great and I still love the sense of humour. I didn't play enough to see if it has changed much but assuming it's mostly as I left it I would still recommend it to people. The levelling feels a bit grindy (quest system is not at all revolutionary) but the combat is rewarding and the PvE grouping is lots of fun.
It's free, check it out!

Mmm good ol' launchday lag.

I s'pose there's the one advantage of having an internet speed of 50kb. It means things like launch day lag don't really affect me, since it takes me weeks to download games anyway.

I'm downloading MGS V to play while wild star sorts it self out.

Good man, good. That game is AWESOME.
(You may want to either read a summary of the plot online, or at least watch the cinematics of Snake Eater, Peace Walker, and Ground Zeroes on youtube. Otherwise, a lot of the story, and characters wont make one bit of sense to you.)

I've watched a full playthrough of Snake Eater and Ground Zeroes, Not peace walker however.
I wish the keyboard and mouse controls for this game were better, it doesn't help when I try to check what anything does, it shows me an xbox controller.

Yep, personally I liked how the controls worked, they were a hell of a lot better than the horrible controls of the PC port of Metal Gear Solid 2, but you do have a huge point about the game doing a poor job of showing us what each key does. Very often the prompts show an Xbox controller, and the same goes for the menus.
Here are a few key functions that the game doesn't bother to tell you: While on a vehicle, X turns the lights on and off. While on D-Walker, you switch to roller mode by pressing spacebar, and gotta press and hold C to brake to a halt and switch to walking mode.
And you totally should watch the story of Peace Walker, since Phantom Pain is more or less a direct sequel of that game. Characters like Paz, Kaz, Chico, Huey, Strangelove, and Cipher make more sense. Here's a good vid showcasing all the cutscenes:

Eh ended up on the PvP server Warhound, lower queues and a friend of mine has a 50 on it already. Also MGS-V is cool, but repetitive..

Changed my mind about the megaservers. They suck.
Wildstar finished downloading after like 5 days....... and when I try to log in....... "Your position in queue is 5000. Estimated time to log in: 12 hours and 50 minutes"
#$%& that noise.

In the EU queues aren't that bad (I was in position ~800 last night when I tried to log in) but the problem is that things are broken in game. There's a ton of lag and looting anything or moving things in the inventory takes ~30seconds for each move. A friend of mine who never stopped playing WS when I did has had to cancel two raids since the F2P launch because the servers are unplayable.
Sad to say that they've screwed up another launch >.<
They'd done a really good job of hyping up a simple move to F2P as a whole new relaunch of the game and that had got lots of people to come and take a look. If people can't play when they get there they're not going to give it more than a couple of tries before giving up. Personally I've already redownloaded SWToR again (the trailer for the new thing looked pretty cool so I'm seeing how that game is doing now).

Luckily I haven't had any time to really get into it, but I still really like the game so far.
I especially appreciate the F2P strategy they've taken, where the fees are for cosmetic or convenience aspects mostly.
I quite liked the story in SWTOR, and the gameplay was pretty good, but I got really frustrated at level 20 where they basically knee-cap you unless you subscribe or buy items. Their strategy of handicapping everybody except the subs is a lot harsher than the alternative, where everybody gets a baseline, but you can pay for convenience or customization. With SWTOR, you can't even post in the forums without being a sub :(

Yep. First impressions are the most important.
I was able to log in last night, but only at 1 am. I'd rather not play in a PVP server if I can avoid it. I despise them tremendously.
I really like how smooth and slick the animations are, the combat is even more fun than I remember back in the beta. Even better, since I was on the beta, I had goodies waiting for me, a free mount, and a cool transmog set.
All of these positive impressions were largely soured by 30second lag on everything I did, from attacking to looting, to talking to NPCs. They really should have done a better job at readying themselves for the tidal wave of new players with the move to F2P. I remember when Lineage 2 made the move, they too slowly had to reduce their server number to just 2 due to low subscribers, but when they announced that they were going F2P they had the good precaution of opening 2 new servers, simply because they knew loads of people would flood in.
One would think Wildstar, sharing the same publisher (NCSoft) would have the same precaution but nope, just 2 servers to handle the tidal wave.
If the lag issues are not fixed within 2 weeks, I'm afraid my stay in nexus is gonna be a very short one indeed.
Personally I've already redownloaded SWToR again (the trailer for the new thing looked pretty cool so I'm seeing how that game is doing now).
The next expansion looks amazing, I can't wait to see it. I'm hoping to get a gamecard somewhere so I can have the next expansion. It may not have any new raids, but the story looks absurdly good, and they're making one of my favorite characters a companion and a romance option.
Plus, Darth Malgus is coming back. That has to be a HUGE plus, that dude was the OG Real Deal.

Ohh yes, SWTOR's initial F2P model was atrocious. They've made several improvements, and you can largely remove all the hurdles that come with F2P by buying the unlocks in the auction house, which means you only really need to sub once, get 1 character to the level cap, do dailies for about 2 weeks, buy all the account-wide unlocks, and then let the sub drop and enjoy the game.
Better than the first draft, but still not good enough for most (And rightfully so, the game CAN be enjoyable in F2P mode but you have to make a sizable investment of either time, or real life money to make it so, if you don't do either, then the restrictions are so bad they stifle the game.)
I've always held the belief that the difference between a good F2P and a bad F2P is that the good one rewards you for paying. The bad one punishes you for not doing so.
Its a shame such a simple concept is foreign to some game developers. (The creators of Neverwinter Online are particularly bad about it. Their game is free in name only, past a certain level, where not paying up means the game is just unplayable)(##RESPBREAK##)520##DELIM##Rankkor##DELIM##

It's difficult for me to judge F2P models because I've been a subscriber to both (WS and ToR) before they went F2P. That always gives you a bit of a leg up in my experience, but, not knowing what it's like for completely new players, I dunno if I've got it good or not. I put a month's sub on SWToR to get the expansion and nothing major seemed to change but it does sound like they limit the number of Flashpoints and Operations you can do without paying but weekly passes for that are pretty cheap.
Wildstar does look pretty reasonable though, from what I saw. Neverwinter is horrible. PoE (though not an MMO) still wins at F2P though. Perfect model!
