Alright guys, so, I got a thread idea, and I'm trying it out.
A thread about music that's more specific than the
General Music Discussion
thread.
Each day, I'll change the title to the topic, and people will share music that they believe fits the topic.
The topics will mainly be about emotions and music that evoke those emotions, events that people associate certain music with, etc.
Rules
Try your best to find a reliable link to the music you are posting. This is meant to be a sharing thread, so there's no reason to make it hard to share!
Give a little explanation as to why you think a specific piece of music fits the topic. I say this so the thread doesn't devolve into mindless song posting, and to encourage discussion. Discussion is nice.
If a song contains profanities, make sure to note it easily. Also, if the song is extremely loud, please note that too.
No duplicate songs! (Dammit Azazel)
You are not limited to the current topic regarding discussion. However, you have to be discussing a previous topic, and if you are, make sure to note the topic.
Have fun!
Once I run out of ideas, I will be asking you folks for suggestions.

Alright, so, let's get started.
Today's topic is Adventure. What songs instill a sense of adventure in you? What songs do you think would kick off a grand adventure? What songs remind you of adventure?
LotR - Bag End
From the very beginning of the Lord of the Rings movies, so it's the start of a long journey in the first place. Whenever I hear it, I always imagine an adventure, through a hilly landscape or fields dotted with trees. And hobbits, can't forget those.
Morrowind - Call of Magic
Giant mushrooms! Storms of blight! Wild hound-like creatures trying to maul you! Morrowind is like the Australia of Tamriel, where even the land wants to kill you. This song incites the wonder I experience(d) when I first played the game, wandering around the large, harsh island. Running from troublesome cliffracers, raiding bandit caves, and getting destroyed by Dagoth Ur's minions in a Sixth House shrine, before I knew who Ur, and his shrines, were.
FFXII - Main Theme
The opening sequence of FFXII follows an airship flying around the land of Ivalice, and I see it every time I hear this song. It reminds me of all the adventures I had inside the game, and how I wish there was a way to actually visit Ivalice.

Fear Not!
By Fray from Morrowind remix.
Out of the Ruins
by Freedom Call.
Dawn of Victory!
by Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire.
Battle Metal
by Turisas.
Honestly, I could put a crap ton here that give out the soul of the Adventurer heh.

Neo-Classical and modern orchestral music is really where I find the most sense of adventure in music. There are two groups that really fit this category for me.
Two Steps from Hell - Some evocative songs of note are
United We Stand, Divided We Fall
,
Black Blade
, and
Infinite Legends
.
E S Posthumus -
Tikal
and
Unstoppable
are the two that fit this the most for me.

I have to agree with HsR. Two Steps from Hell has some of my favorites. For example,
Heart of Courage
. The heavy usage of strings and percussion, along with the ever increasing tempo (and the epic choir) make anything you (while listening to this) epic.

Blue Fields
pretty much encompasses adventure for me. So many hours spent going around the world in the Garden looking for that %^&*ing White SeeD ship

Wind Waker, great sea theme.

Day 2: Sadness. What music opens a hole in your heart, brings you to tears, or otherwise makes your heartstrings sore?
I'll post a few later. Just got back from some work.

Alright, got some time to post things before I take a nap. A lot of these rely on the story behind the music, because I can't think straight to actually formulate why they're sad.
Final Fantasy VII - Aerith's Theme
Not just because she dies but it feels like there's a sense of longing in the song, for her mother, for Zack, a life free of pursuit by Shinra, and peace.
Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand
Well, it's the song of a city annihilated thousands of years ago, and the hometown of the main character, who turns out to be a dream and leaves at the end of the game. so it's definitely got a powerful sadness behind it.
Planescape: Torment - Deionarra's Theme
The theme of a ghost with a very tragic story. Before I learned of the story behind the character, I could feel a sadness about it, but I can't exactly say why at the moment (excluding the fact that the character's a ghost when you meet her).
Bastion - Mother, I'm Here (Zulf'sTheme)
The singer is singing about returning home, to his mother. Given that there's a goddess who people call The Mother, I think it's about him dying, and his soul going to her, and both of them finding peace because of it.
Also, given where it plays in the game, it carries even more sadness.
Oh yeah, just remembered another one;
Nightwish - The Islander
One of my favorite Nightwish songs. It's about a lone, retired sailor, who appears to be nearing the end of his life, and is remembering what used to be.

When All Hope Has Faded
; you cannot listen to this without remembering the first time you saw 2300 AD, that bleak and dying world.

I missed yesterday's topic so I shall pass it by for now.
There are two songs that I can no longer listen to without tearing up.
The first one is
Far side banks of Jordan but Jonny and June Cash
. They carried my Dad's coffin out of the church to this tune and even after trying to inure myself to it I still can't help but cry when listening to it. My Dad died of renal carcinoma at the age of 59 and for the last few weeks of his life was in a hospice where he and my mum planned his funeral down to the last detail.
The other one is also related to my Mum and Dad and I didn't know it would have such an effect on me until the evening of our wedding. Lynne and I had our first dance to Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol which all went off fine. We had also chosen the nearest Saturday to the anniversary of my Dad's death so as to allow us a 'happy' memory for that time of the year. So with all that thinking going on I decided that I was going to 'surprise' my Mum by having the second dance with her to Mum and Dad's song which is
Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues
, needless to say that by the end of the song I was once again in a complete and utter snotty mess.
I hope that this fits your theme Kris

Day #3: Calmness.
What music imposes a sense of calmness upon you?
Post by
Monday
It's rather strange, but dark space ambient really calms me down. Most space ambient will do it, but dark space* does it the best. The long, rather ethereal tones and hums tend to make me calm and tired (especially compared to
my usual
fare
).
My favorite of these artists, Simon Wilkinson, does two really good ones:
Polaris
Through the Ergosphere
He does a third one which is pretty good too, but not as good as the other two, called
Nebula Drift
.
* dark ambient itself does not because most of it is creepy and weird.

A slew of post rock, shoegaze and black/avant-guarde metal groups and songs will do that for me.
These are my favorite calming songs from 4 of my favorite post rock groups, but each of them has dozens of other good calming songs:
Mogwai - Take Me Somewhere Nice
Emancipator - Lionheart
Sigur Ros - Staralfur
65daysofstatic - Radio Protector
Moving towards the metal spectrum, these two really stick out to me (and of course they have other good songs that fit it too which are worth looking into if you like what you head):
Alcest - Les Voyages De L'Âme
Agalloch - Limbs
If you like any of the above and want to take your heart, mind, and soul on a 40 minute journey, try
Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music 1: Stella
. One of my favorites
Also, find a lot of good electronic music, especially trance, to fit the bill as well. Off the top of my head, there Jean Michal Jarre's
Equinox
album, Daft Punk's
Discovery
album, and
Massive Attack - Teardrop
,

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals - Voice of Wind, Song of Time
Slow, soft sounds and the occasional twinkle of glass/crystal/bells.
Mario Kart 64 - Rainbow Road
The song and the length of the level made Rainbow Road my favorite track in Mario Kart 64. If you're good enough, you can get so far ahead that, except for the occasional Chain Chomp strolling down the track, you're alone. Solitude can be very calming sometimes. Plus, being alone means all you hear are the rumbling of your engine and the song.
Bonus: 30 minute version.

Camiel - Sunset
I find instrumental jazz the most calming.
