A complete re-boot - Starting over

Hi there,
For those that know me on the forums, you probably know that I'm an Altaholic who has tons of high level characters. Well, I had 31 up to level 85, with 6 of those getting to 90 too.
However, with account wide Pets, Mounts, and Achievements, it always felt a bit underwhelming to me when I started a new toon, even starting over on a new server. I wouldn't get that old sense of accomplishment on any of my leveling toons.
So, I decided to create a new account, with a new email, and see what it was like to start all over again. I decided to keep the old account, but the more I played the new one, the less I ever felt like logging in to the old one.
So, I took the drastic step of a complete re-boot, by deleting ALL my toons on the old account. I vendored everything, and transferred all the money to one toon on each realm, and gave that away, along with the personal guilds I'd built up. I gave away 201K on Nordrassil, and 205K on Perenolde, to the lucky people who said they needed gold first. Also gave away a level 15 and level 14 guid with several bank slots full of stuff.
So, that's how you re-boot, folks. If you want to start over, create a new account, buy the Battle Chest, Cata+MoP, and away you go. My highest level toon is now 58, and I'm having a blast.
Cheers.

It can be a lot of fun to simply start fresh with no dangling half completed achievements and the prospect of doing things differently.
Account wide stuff has been a blessing and a curse, IMO.
I must say that you're braver than I. I simply parked my old account. I can't bring myself to delete things and toons I've had for so long.
Still, enjoy the fresh journey, you crazyman you.

I've never understood why people feel the need to delete characters/accounts when they want to start over. If you don't want to play those characters/accounts anymore, just....don't play them anymore?
The only thing you get from deleting is regret, as I can't even count the times I've seen guildies/friends come back after "quitting" and wishing they hadn't deleted it all.
That being said, good to hear you are enjoying your fresh start! As an avid collector of everything I'm very happy they added account wide pets/mounts/achievements as I can now play any character I want instead of feeling obligated to play my main (except for PvP, cause Blizzard felt they needed to keep those character bound =( )

Well, the reason I did it was that I wanted to give away all the gold, and guilds, so others could enjoy it, not have it all sit idly in an account that wasn't being played. And, it's not like deleting and quitting, because I'm playing and building up a new army. I don't, and don't believe I ever will, have any regrets.
Cheers.

Guys. I have a question based on things I just saw mentioned on the wow forums. In my first account, if I were to delete every single character, would I then have no Achievements, Mounts, and Pets if I were then to create a new character?
Cheers.

Nope; it's tied to your account.

Phew. I didn't waste $50 then. Thanks.

Another question: If you transfer your previous achievement hound and mount/pet collector (ie the toon you did everything with) from your old battlenet account to your new one, does everything come with it? Does it 'infect' your new account with your old stuff? Do your alts on your old account suddenly become bereft of achievements, mounts and pets because the 'earner' transfered off?
I ask because my old account has the now unattainable Zhevra, and maybe at some point I would like my new account to have access to it.

Merge the accounts under the same battlenet ID for that Eccentrica; in your case, merge the New to the Old so that it would register the Zhevra.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, I have considered that, I just pondered the effect of leaving the the accounts separate and simply transferring one toon over. I suppose really I should repost to Help any maybe get the lowdown from Araxom.

Would be the best for the most up to date information.

Well, I now have 8 toons on my new account, but that's it for the forseeable future. I have all bases covered and I plan on getting them all to 90.
It's funny right now. I have tons of pets already, but only 1 ground mount. A Chestnut Mare :)
Cheers.

How did you go about naming this new group? Stuck with the "Lanky" theme?
Post by
Eccentrica
He's suffixing names with 'brit'. I kind of wish I had done that when I started, using suffixes or prefixes to create a common theme.

It would be kinda dumb if it deleted that stuff just for having no chars =P.Well, I now have 8 toons on my new account, but that's it for the forseeable future. I have all bases covered and I plan on getting them all to 90.

Who needs more than 2 mounts?

No one really. Not the definition of need. I definitely 'want' more than 2 for Achievements and for variety though.
Cheers.
