And I side with Uther and Jaina. Whether I can think of it now or not, there must have been another way. I don't care if you call me foolish for this, but there must be a decent resolution between the two extremes of doing nothing and rash action.
Just throwing out another idea, perhaps they could have warned the citizens of Stratholme and then stood guard to kill them as they were reanimated (this is a more controlled situation, as you only have a few undead at a time).
Besides, again I say, Arthas' heartless slaughtering of an entire city of innocent men, women and children (again, inexcusable IMHO)accomplished nothing in the end. Lordaeron fell. The surrounding areas were wiped out by the plague. Arthas only delayed this, and in doing so, his moral strength wavered (he crossed the line, so to speak, for what he would do for his kingdom, and that led to his taking of Frostmourne).

I doubt that you would have time to warn the villagers and quarantine them or anything, because you are racing against time, becasue in the W3 campaign, you have to kill 100 villagers before Kil'jaiden or whoever does. So you don't really have anytime to do anything besides kill all the villagers.

It's the way of evil to think in terms of "this many, or that many" rather than in terms of "what will this do to me?". Ruthless practicality risks your soul. This is why it was so easy to convince Arthas to take up Frostmourne.
If we consider Stratholme as the turning point of Arthas' life toward the Scourge, then these "villagers versus the millions of the future" is a moot point. Because of this turning point, Arthas went on to become the Lich King, which has now caused the worser deaths of the literal millions that should have been prevented with his decision at Stratholme... Or so you claim.

He was a 100% right, he saved a lot of people back then. You can't just do "the right thing" and expect everything to turn out OK. Also, Arthas is My favorite character too :D.

Arthas was doing what he believed to be right for his land. The turning point of Arthas' sanity was when he upheld Frostmourne, and lost his soul for it. Stratholme was not when Arthas lost his mind, it was later on Northrend. He wanted to finish the war so badly, that he "Would pay any price for his people." and he payed a more ultimate one than you could expect.
I very much disagree. His sanity may have left him with Frostmourne, but Stratholme was very much the turning point in his war on the Scourge. It was the single greatest (as in, great men) decision of his life; he slaughtered hundreds in the name of the greater good. Not just hundreds, but the innocent; the people who did not deserve to die. Hundreds of innocent lives, and he didn't even know the consequences . Alone, his mentor and friends gone, all he had left was to indeed become that which he was battling.
His choice at Stratholme was forced, but no less wrong or evil for it. That he didn't choose to ignore the issue shows that he didn't really care for the people of Stratholme, only of the kingdom of Lordaeron. His heart should have been with the people for the act at Stratholme to be morally good.

So what do you think, do you think that Arthas did what was "right" when he destroyed Stratholme? Personally I think he did the best he could with what he had, but I want to here you guys thoughts on the matter.
Nothing can really change what people think. No matter what the 2 decisions are, people will always hate their leader because they chose one of them. Even though it's the better option, the people think that their leader is "all-mighty", and should be able to clean up any mess without any death toll or plague spreading across the world.
But yes, I agree with you. He took the right path in killing those infected, but the thing is: He kept going. He let down his guard, and became week in himself. Then he got seduced (turned, corrupted, whatever you wish to call it) by the Lich King, and turned evil.
