Jerk Moments

The other day, I was finishing up the Golden Lotus dailies in the Vale when NPCScan alerted me that Kang the Soul Thief was nearby. I hit the icon to target him and found surprisingly he was still at full health, so I quickly landed and tagged him. I was immediately mobbed by at least 5 other characters sending me invites and begging in both whispers and /say to share credit for the kill. I declined all invites and finished him off, the memory of being similarly rebuffed when trying to invite people in similar situations while working on my recently completed Glorious achievment fresh in my mind.
After the kill I looted the corpse and /danced after receiving a couple nasty whispers from people claiming that was their last rare left for Glorious. I pointed out their camping fail and continued on my way.
What happened later that day wasn't so much of a jerk move but did make me feel better about taking the Kang kill for myself. I later ran into Kal'Tik the Blight as I was doing archaeology and after peeling off some adds got the tag. Almost immediately the vultures arrived; there were at least 5 or 6 players hovering above me waiting on me to die (which I almost did after running into a tornado with Kal'Tik at about 20%). After the kill I again received a couple of nasty whispers... not sure why, because that time nobody bothered to try and invite me to a group.
You know how bad it sucked trying to get that achievement, but yet you did the same thing that was done to you to other people.....
I will never understand why people keep this kind of crap behavior going on the mentality of "Well, it was done to me, so I'm going to do it to you."

HIt and runs don't bother me. Same lvl jumps dont bother me. What bothers me is when someone of much higher level sits there and camps you for 15+ minutes killing you every time you spawn, and then runs away when you call in some help.
If you don't have the guts to fight people your level, then you don't need to screw with people who are under your level. It's that simple.
I disagree here. If I'm waiting on an LFD/LFR queue and am otherwise bored, one thing I enjoy is heading out to Burning Steppes and killing lowbies questing there (PVP server). This inevitably attracts 90s looking to take me out, but I enjoy leading them on a wild goose chase more than anything else. There are many phased areas in that zone, making it quite easy to have a bunch of 90s chasing you only to disappear quickly. My favorite spot is at Chiselgrip - if you've done all the quests in that zone you can drop into the zone by the flight master, kill off some lowbies and engage any 90s and then run right behind the flight master, phasing you out to the point where most other players will disappear. Rebuff, bandage, mount up and fly right back into the fray. It's quite amusing when a lowbie I've camped will get 4-5 guildies to fly all the way out there to try and kill me when it's virtually impossible to do so as long as I stay a safe distance from the flight master.

Well, the thread is "jerk moments", so I am acknowledging that at some level it wasn't a great thing to do.
Does that bother me? No. I knew none of the players around me; they could have been NPCs for all I cared. I had nothing to gain from accepting an invite, other than someone else to share a loot roll with if the rare happened to drop one of his novelty items/etc.
If they actually had been camping the mob for the achievement, it was a significant fail on their part - that rare spawns in a very specific location and is impossible to miss.
It's not my job to go out of my way to stop killing the rare (i.e. risk dying) so they can tick off some achievement counter. It will spawn again - better luck next time, as I responded to the whispers.

Did you not read the post about the horde stealing the cache from the alliance player, or is that okay in your eyes? There are punks on both sides of the fence who think these actions are "fun and okay, cause after all, we are at war" but then run when someone who can put them in their place (pvp servers) or never flag (pve servers). If you want to be a jerk to someone, have the guts to face the repercussions.
Yes, I did see it and you are right. I apologize. (But i still don't care for the Alliance.)

Are ALL you Alliance players the same... wait until we are defenseless and then attack? I have had that same experience myself.... killing 2 or 3 mobs and getting ganked because i was so engaged.. whats up with that?
You dirtbags are the ones that keep stealing out and taging mobs, Hordies don't even understand, heck i was there before those horde jackasses and when they got lucky and tagged it, i simply fixed the problem, horde is horde, they don't deserve to be treated the same, not until they stop ganking and tagging everything.
Personally i have a problem with some orc death knight who thinks it's funny to sit next to the stockades portal, deathgrip people and run in whenever he actually gets hurt. Then there's that undead warlock that always tries to chaos bolt you if you accidentally run into the part of Dominated point that's horde-only just for a free kill.
Do i even have to mention how it's F***ing impossible to get around pandaria without the
Steadfast Footman's Medallion
and
SI:7 Operative's Manual
just because every single time you get tricked into flagging somehow and end up ganked by a swarm of hordies?
EDIT: I have a personal rule, if you're flagged, either you've been in BGs (Which means your usually in a city so i don't see you) or you've just been a typical hordie and ganked some unsuppecting alliance, if i see you ganking though? I'll try to get a friend to the nearest grave and camp your corpse till you run out of gear from graving resetting too much or ragequit..

Both sides gank and take cheap shots equally. It isn't a horde thing or an alliance thing. It's a PvP server thing.

So, looks to me like you are bragging about being a coward. "I'm going to grief people that have no chance of defending themselves and when they get help, I'm going to run and hide." Great job coward! We applaud your cowardice!

I don't get your indignation about these posts. As I've (needlessly, IMO - consider the title of the thread) acknowledged, these aren't acts of altruism; they are anything but.
If reading about "jerk moments" is going to get you this upset, I'd suggest you stick to the "acts of kindness" thread which I also see is active on the front page the past few days.

I don't get your indignation about his indignation. You can't expect to come here, tell us all what an *!@#$%^ you've been and how you don't feel the slightest bit sorry, then get all upset when someone calls you out on it.
If you want to be an @#$%^&*, be an &*!@#$%, but why cry when someone tells you what you are?

I'm not upset in the least bit, and the majority of these posts are bragging about being cowards, griefers, really bad troll attempts, and running away with the tail between the legs.
But I tell you what. How about you come roll an alliance on Blackrock-US and I will follow you around killing you repeatedly like you brag about doing, and we will see how you like it?

I'm neither upset nor indignant. I just find some of the reactions to the posts in this thread odd, given the title.

No thanks. I get enough of that leveling toons through the CRZ zones on my own server. Unlike those that whine about it, though, I chalk it up to the cost of doing business on a PVP server and move on.

strangely enough the biggest jerks in this thread are just here too rage at people who atleast got the courage too admit what they did.
sure it was a jerk thing to do, but do you really think we care about your raging in here and name calling.
so yeah people who havent admitted any jerk move they made ingame are the biggest jerks around here with all their bashing. its quite hilarious actually.
You mean hilarious like being a coward and stealing the opposite factions nodes/mobs/misc. while they are in combat? Or griefing people when you are too scared to flag? Or hilarious like camping lowbies because you know you can't beat players your level?
I have never said I've never done a jerk move before, nor have I bragged about any of my jerk moments...its' because I know it was wrong and try not to do it just to be a pain in some strangers ass because I know there won't be any real word ramification for such.

I don't think not accepting an invite from someone, when you are killing a rare for a chance at an item they drop, is a jerk move. They are designed to inspire competition- that's why they drop goodies. If I start a fight with a creature that I know that I can beat alone, and I want the item, then I have every right to continue the fight alone and claim my prize if it drops. If someone whispered me that it was the last one they needed for the achieve, I might have invited them, sure- but I wouldn't have had an obligation to, or anything. I don't think it's wrong to be competitive about farming rares for rare drops- that's the whole reason they exist.
