It's been a while since this topic was last up (according to a few searches I did to make sure), so I thought it would be nice to revisit. What's the nicest thing that someone's ever done for you in-game? Or, go ahead and toot your own horn: what's the nicest thing you've ever done for someone else?
I always appreciate little random, friendly encounters with other players - it adds so much to the game and its environment, even if you never get to see those people again. It's often such seemingly little things - a nice whisper, a friendly emote, some free gear or gold - but you never know how much it might mean to the other person.

I was having a hard time killing a few mobs in the spider cave in Pandaria and a player from the other faction helped me kill all of them. I'm sure it was beneficial to him as well, but it was nice to work together to achieve a goal instead of just killing each other just because i'm horde and they are alliance.

i had a few bad expieriences leveling up with guilds. seemed as a noob there are not to many helpfull people they expect you to learn fast and theres allot more to this game to a 1st time player then most 6year vets realize. i had pretty much given up on guilds and started just playing for fun and ignoring all guild invites. somewhere around level 80 just a few days after MoP release i saw a level 90 panda monk healer and i was like HOLY SMOKE i been playing many months and heres a 90 Monk in like 4 days after MoP release! so anyway i got to talking with him and took another chance. this guild has turned me into a fairly good tank. finally someone took me under their wing. answered all my questions even the stupid ones. im now starting as the off tank on there 10 & 25 man raid teams and MUCH more comfortable in dungeons, raids, etc, and enjoying the game more then i ever realized i would.
i wish more people would be patient like that with new players. we would see a drastic increase in population on all realms if we did. my skin is thick so i just put on ignore and wonder off away from butt holes. my point though is many others loose interest over it. do something or say something nice. dont always be a pompus a$$ hole just because YOU THINK someone should know this or that by the time they are level 60... anyway good deeds do come on WoW but not as often as they should..

Well back when I had lots of time to grind pets and things and all my professions were maxed (too many alts to do that now :/) I would give Christmas gifts to all my guildies from a gnome named santiclaus. A few weeks before Christmas I would talk with them about their favorite pets and which ones they couldn't seem to find. I would also look up their gear and look for craft-able upgrades. If they were over geared, I would make gems and leg armor for when they got even better upgrades. I think I was pretty stealthy the first two years or so, but eventually near Christmas they would start talking about stuff they needed for their gear or alts whenever I would log on XD . My GM figured me out the first year and he wrote me a thank you note on behalf of all the guild. I still have it saved ^^

I don't tend to remember specific incidents but any time I even get a buff from someone passing-by it feels nice.
As for myself; I try to be as helpful as possible, I'm a bit of a carebear.

Free gold's always a good one, i've received and given my fair share but as mentioned before it's just nice when someone gives you the time of day when you're a noob. Once you've learned and developed just make sure you pay it forward!

I started just before the release of BC and was asked to roll a Paladin when BC came out by the RL friends that got me playing. They where all 60 and levelling to 70 while I was learning the game and trying to catch up. I had no idea what I was doing, lol. One day I was questing and one of my guildies popped up out of nowhere and opened trade, he gave me a wrapped present, said Hi and took off. I opened the present and it was an Epic Mace - I was shocked because at the time BOE epics where valuable and gold was much harder to come by. So for him to just give it to me to make me feel good and have my first ever epic pc was pretty cool. Still recall it today with fondness.

Awesome stuff here - love the guild Santa Claus story, GeorgeBob! What a great idea! :)

I agree wholeheartedly. A common theme in here is acts of kindness for newbies in particular... how nice to see stories about people who have been so generous and patient with new folk. :)
The most generous thing I've done, I guess, is give a Vial of the Sands mount to my guild for use as the grand prize in a guild competition. But the thing I enjoy the most is when I come across rare pets and am able to find hunters nearby to tame them. My pet stable is maxed at this point on my hunter, but it's just as satisfying to see someone else get a pet they've been wanting as it was for me to get my pets.

I remember 2 major times that made my day with assistance.
Early on I was playing my alliance paladin and was work on a kill quest in Swamp of Sorrows. I saw a Horde player come into the area and they pointed at the kill npc, to me and themselves. I emoted an agreement whereupon we swapped tagging the npcs and then the other would join in for the kill. Once done we both waved and went our respective ways.
The other was on that same toon, after I was at max level and decided to go for Loremaster, I was running some lower level quests and came on a lower level player doing the same quests I was doing. I joined that player and helped them complete most of that zone.

I had just started playing after watching my brother play for a while. I had gotten my belf pally to about level 11 and was in the first town in Ghostlands when someone comes up to me and opened trade. He said he was leaving the game and giving away some stuff. I would up with 2g, which was a fortune at that level.
I've passed along gold to lowbies I see, and I also try to answer questions in trade or general helpfully.

Whenever I create a new toon for a guide on my website on a realm I'm not really familiar with, whoever invites me into a guild I tell them I may guild-hop. So I usually drop 500g into their guild bank, once I make it, and tell them I'll promote their guild on my website if anyone goes there and happens to be on the same realm. I just ask them to write a summary and send me it via mail.

I love to help someone of a lower lvl giving buffs etc... also when i see them fighting, I won't say anything, just wait for them to hit their target, and I finish said target off for them and leave quickly. :)
As such, I also feel great when someone buffs me or helps me with targets. Thank you to those who have! :)
Happy Holidays, Everyone!

I get asked a lot by my guildees for a boost in RoB, CoC, AoA etc. So while I'm helping them I always ask in general if anyone of the right level from any realm (CRZ) wants a free boost there also. Not a major deal but its nice to know I saved them some time from finding a grp and sped up their levelling a bit.

I agree with the idea that the guild experience typically tends to be very clique-ish and not at all helpful to slower learners and inexperienced players . . . sad . . .

If i see someone (either faction) being mauled by a tonne of mobs, and about to die i'll either fly down and nuke the mobs, tank the mobs, or heal the guy (if ally)...sad thing is i rarely get any thanks :( (not saying they should say "ty" but it would be nice ;p )

This is something I do and have had done for me. When someone does this I always /salute them and will throw a TY if they are the same faction. It is nice to see /salutes or /bows from one that I just helped though, but I do it out of hating that same situation when I get into it.
