Tristram Mahone
Goldshire
"Apple," Tristram responded with a nod and smile, catching the fruit when Titus tossed him it. The human bite into the shiny red apple, enjoying the sweet and tangy flavour. He made a mental note to plant an apple tree when they got back from this adventure.

Titus produced one more apple from the bag, bit into it and held it between his teeth, juice running down his chin while he relocated the backpack to his actual back. "Mmm," he mumbled with his mouth full, "tish gud."

"It's true," Peter said defensively. "Though...measuring based on monks, true. So, maybe stacking the scales," he admitted.

The look of skepticism on her face did not fade, however Elsa did change the subject. "Anything I ought to know about the mage we're going to kill?"

"Don't know, actually, all that much. Man we interviewed, in Stockades. Very reticulation. Even after being shot...twice...But! Informed us that he was powerful. Made odd allusions, as well. And, Irene said her town was, apparently, destroyed by him alone. But, other than that, she didn't share. Clammed up, should the subject be broached. She...claimed, was the only survivor," Peter said hesitantly. Feeling as if he were passing a secret which was not his to share.

"Mhmm," the pickpocket nodded, thinking, though Peter's hesitation gave Elsa the impression he was not telling her everything. "Did she mention how he destroyed the town?"

"Hmm...No. No, she didn't. When I found her, though, she had multiple and varying depth of lacerations. Bruises, bleeding, and was exhausted. Some of it, likely, from the long walk. But, how much? Don't know. Still, looked very general. Not specific. Likely she had been wounded collaterally," Peter said.

"Any idea what kind of magic he used?" Elsa inquired, trying to work out as much as she could about the wizard before facing him in battle.

Peter grew quiet as they continued their journey down the road. Considering. The fields and farmsteads of Westfall stretched at their sides, though many were abandoned. Even these soon faded as they continued onwards, their feet plodding upon the dirt road.
The road eventually forked away, towards the distant river and Darkshire. Heeding the flightmasters instructions, Peter continued onward and past it. By seven hours of steady walking, he soon became aware that they grew nearer to tragic Sierra. It was no signpost or marker which tipped him off. Rather, it was when the golden grass of Westfall were abruptly replaced by those of a vibrant shade of purple!

"What the Fel..." the pickpocket muttered, attempting to pick up a blade of grass - only for it to shatter into hundreds of tiny, glimmering pieces.

Elsa snorted, but fought back the urge to make a remark about the obviousness of Peter's comment. Instead the pickpocket looked ahead, trying to discern the source of the magic.

Not too far from the purple grass and flanking the road on either side appeared to be a field, composed entirely of all forms of hats. Top, straw, bowler and even helmets were not exempted amongst the collection of headpieces. And just a little ways past that was the dim outline of buildings, dark against the passing sun. And in shapes that were more than a touch disconcerting.

"If I didn't know any better I'd say they're watching us," the pickpocket mused, looking warily between the various items of headwear that littered the field.

Peter gave the hats a suspicious look as well. He looked up the road leading to town uneasily. "Should we...try cutting across the...hats? Less obvious, suppose. Can approach the town without following main road. And those, maybe watching it," he said, deferring to Elsa's greater experience of the general world.

Elsa looked around and tried to decide, not used to farmlands like she was bustling cities or tall, snowy mountains. "I say we use the hats as cover and head for the buildings," she decided, picking the route that seemed least unappealing, being not quite on the road but also not in the middle of the fields. "Grass here isn't high enough to hide us and there may be traps," she added, justifying her choice.

"Agreed."
Peter tentatively stepped off the road and into the field of hats. He closed his eyes as his foot pressed into the ground between a bandana and plumed helmet. When nothing overt occurred he sighed in relief and stepped onto the field fully.

The guard who had been in the midst of rising cried out in surprise as the second undead leaped into the fray, laying him out on the floor with a blow to the temple. He looked up, only realizing he had lost his sword when he tried to raise it defensively.
The man who had been trying to sneak about Max looked away to the sudden development in surprise. One which the wounded illusionist took advantage of fully, lurching off the chair and running the guard through.
