The spectral image picked up a glass of an expensive alcoholic beverage of some sort, perhaps wine, and took a sip, before setting it down where it faded from view once again. "Luckily for you, they shouldn't be too hard to find, they have been ambushing travellers and local millitia alike in the villages to the Northwest of here," the man told them, whilst glancing at his watch, "now, if you haven't any further questions, I'm afraid I'll be off."

The young mage shrugged dismissively. The sooner this man was gone, the better.

"So, now what?" Lyshalis asked and turned to the group.

"Well, should you need me, use this," the man murmured, apparently disappointed, flicking a coin in the group's general direction. Gregg caught it in one hand, though when he glanced back up the man had already vanished.
"He is going to destroy you..."
the box whispered to Kalina, as if having waited for the instant the man disappeared before daring to speak,
"behold the catalyst of destruction..."
At that very moment Gregg held the coin up to the light of the sun, tracing the inscription etched into the circumference with his finger.
"Give it here Gregg, I'll cut it up so we each get a share," Nimrod instructed, apparently not hearing Lyshallis' question, sounding like he was certain he had come up with the best idea ever.
"No, you moron, I don't think that's how it works," Gregg replied, pocketing it.
"That's it wise guy, I'm taking five raspberries and two blueberries out of your pay next week!" the paladin snapped.
The gnome raised an eyebrow, "you never paid me in raspberries."
"Holy Light, Gregg, you're this damn close to getting fired!" the dwarf warned him, sounding even angrier, seemingly having forgotten the fact various enchantments would turn the gnome to stone if he moved too far away.
"Watch as it turns them against each other..."
the box sighed, the sound of its whispers subsiding as it faded back into silence once again.

"SO!" The night elf said loudly in order to get the atention of the shorter ones. "What shall we do now?" She asked.

"We
shut up
and get to business," Kalina said impatiently. For the first time, she was really losing her temper with the odd couple - if it had to do with the whispered warnings was uncertain. "A lot of lives are at stake here. If you guys can't focus, I'm going to have to do this myself!"

"Funny, you didn't seem interested in a lot of lives until he mentioned those artifacts," the gnome commented in a flat tone, eyeing Kalina critically.
Likewise, Nimrod turned to her, the human woman now becoming the focus of his anger, seeing as Gregg would not budge, "yeah, who died and made you queen?" he demanded.
The box stirred, as if sensing the aggression, magical energy starting to build up within it.

"Oh, you didn't get the memo?" Kalina snapped at the dwarf. "About how we have to save half the kingdom because Mr Fancypants there is bored?"
She shook her head, having difficulties focusing due to the box constantly calling for attention.

"So, why don't we stop arguing and work together to find the bandits then?" Lyshalis said to the three calmly.

Whatever the spell was that had been keeping the hounds at bay, it had faded, for they chose that moment to reappear, quietly peering down the incline at the group. Their excited barks had long since ceased, either out of confusion or exhaustion, and instead they watched, sizing up their now visible prey.
"Oh, yeah? Well, I don't care what this
memo
guy says, I'm saving this kingdom on my orders, not yours!" Nimrod shouted, oblivious.

Lyshalis noded to the dwarf. "I am a alien to this land, so where do you belive the bandits reside?" She asked the human of the party, as she belived the human would posses knowlage of her home nation.

Kalina didn't bother to reply to the dwarf now that Lyshalis had interrupted him anyway. She looked up to the sky, remembering what the man had said about ambushes to the northwest. Knowing where the sun stood, and having a rough estimate of the time due to the daylight now waning, she raised her arm to point in the approximate direction of their target. "That-ish way."
When she looked down again, her eyes fell on the edge of the glade where the pack of hounds waited to attack.
^&*!.
"The dogs!" she yelled to warn the others, pointing frantically. She wasn't sure she had the energy, nor the physical ability, to outrun them again now that they actually could be seen.

"Damn!" She exclaimed at the sight of the hounds. She drew her blades as the hounds have surounded them. She would need to kill a few of them if she wanted to run away from them or perhaps she should try to kill them all...

Kalina cautiously backpedalled a few steps before getting an idea - a brillant one, at that, she figured.
She raised her hand in front of her, and with some effort and a sharp
snap
she had summoned a glassy sphere of bright flames. She held it out while she tried communicating with the box:
"Help me now, hey? I need a good bang!"

The pent-up magical energy surged into Kalina, like a raging torrent of floodwater being guided into a narrow canal, threatening to overwhelm her.
Nimrod turned his attention to the animals, glaring at them as they fanned out and began their charge towards the group. The dwarf brandished his mace.
"Err, there's a way out back here...I'm not sure this is a good idea," Gregg reminded the others, seeing them stand their ground.

Through sheer force of will and survival instinct, Kalina managed to divert the overpressure of magic into the fire orb. The flames beneath the glassy surface intensified by an incredible amount; the light radiating became white hot and immensely bright.
As if it threatened to burn her, the young mage quickly lobbed the bomb away from her in a fumbling attempt at a nice underhand throw.
In the moment that passed before impact, she duly noted not to ask for a boost again. It was almost too late when she remembered the others didn't know what was happening.
"Cover your eyes!" she shouted as quickly as she could, raising an arm to protect her face and eyesight and hoping the others would have time to do the same.

Something nearby sizzled, most likely Nimrod's armour, and then a sound like a tremendous thunderstrike was heard, followed abruptly by a wave of blinding light and intense heat that flung the group sharply to the ground...
Gregg coughed, managing to regain consciousness. The gnome looked around dazedly, seeing a cloud of burning embers drifting lazily on the wind, and groaned. The entire clearing had been totalled - the hounds vaporized instantly, the trees reduced to glowing husks, the ground reduced to bare earth - even the surrounding hills had been torn asunder.

The young mage not only found herself baffled with the ferocity of the explosion - after regaining her senses she also found herself knocked to the ground.
"Fel...that was cool," she groaned. No part in particular hurt more than the rest of her body, which she took as a good sign. Crawling up on her knees, she looked around to check on the others. "You guys alright?" she asked, still in shock and not really comprehending the extent of the destruction.

The elf began to rise form the tree she had been knocked into, her ears rang, body felt sore and her eyes was still a bit dazzled by the light. But she got up on her feet nevertheless and noticed that she managed to hold her blades during the whole explosion thing.
The sight of the now dread land was a painfull one to the elven lady. "How did you do that?" She asked the mage, worry and anger she felt and both was represented in her tone and facial expresion.
