Asked whether he knew Americans in Libya had asked for more security, Obama replied: "
I was not personally aware of any request.
Obviously we have an infrastructure that's set up to manage requests like that," in reference to the State Department.
The more information that comes out about the attack in Benghazi, the deeper Obama is digging his own grave. I am honestly starting to think that, should he be re-elected, he stands a very good chance of impeachment once the whole truth comes out from this mess.
It is already coming to light that the entire siege was being watched live on video from a drone aircraft. It is also being reported that one of the ex-seal members that died held a laser targeting device on a mortar position for more than an hour, expecting air support. Support that was less than 1 hour away. i have read reports that there was heavy weapons manned and stationed less than 1 mile from the compound, and that they received orders to stand down 3 times. Reports differ, but it is estimated that the Ambassador was alive for between 3 to 7 hours from the start of the raid.
I fully realize that not every report is 100% accurate, but usually, there is at least partial truth in these types of reports.
For Obama to expect us to believe, and expect it to not be exposed, that he knew full well of what was happening, is ridiculous. An American embassy, in a known hostile foreign country is under attack, and there is a live feed video of the attack, and we are expected to believe that the President was not notified?
Political ideology aside, this is one of the worst, if not THE worst, failures of a Commander in Chief in modern history. And it is shaping up to be the biggest cover-up since Nixon and Watergate. The mainstream media can sweep this under the rug for another 12 days, I am sure, but they can't hode it forever.
The scary thought is, is if Obama IS impeached, we would be left with the only man on Earth less qualified than he is to be president....Uncle Joe Biden.

Hopefully Romney will take the White House and it wont be an issue, Im pretty sick of Obama as well. I don't think we can afford another four years of on the job training...

What would you have done, in the same situation?
Thats a dumb question, nobody here is educated enough about politics and foreign affairs to make that call, and none of us are the president of the United States. Thats like getting pissed when a plumber screws up and floods your basement, and having somebody say "well how would you have done it?" Nobody here is qualified to run a country, but the president should be.

Whilst whether the man gets impeached or not makes no difference to my life in any way. I believe that by the time the embassy was attacked Lybia was no longer a known hostile foreign country due to the fact that by this time Gaddafi had been deposed and killed and that democracy was returning to the country with EU and US assistance.

That's nonsense. The average sixth grader is more qualified to run the country than Obamney is.
I may not know a lot about plumbing, but I'm pretty sure that if the plumber deliberately pours a bunch of bacon grease and cat hair down your kitchen sink, destroys your shower with a sledgehammer, and then leaves without ever looking at the leaky pipes in your basement that you called him to fix, you could have done a better job.

Sources on quote?
Boron,
The information was from several posts on several sites. I believe the quote I used at the start was linked from my local TV news site. I didn't "source" the post, for a couple reasons. #1, I was looking at about a dozen articles at the time, and #2, its all over every news outlet. I will say this, I intentionally was NOT looking at sources like FOX or The Blaze, because I wanted to try to find information that had as little policial opinion as possible. I honestly feel that this situation needs to be looked at with as little spin as possible, from both sides.
What would you have done, in the same situation?
Pikey,
Of course this is very oversimplified, as I am not a Military strategist, nor am I the President of the US, but I would have done SOMETHING. I would not have sat by and watched live video of our Embassy being overrun by a militant group. Assuming that the reports of having aircraft within 1-2 hours away, and heavy weapons possibly minutes away, I would have at least deployed those resources. I would NOT have placed my political aspirations ahead of human life, which is what I feel Obama did. I honestly believe that he hoped that the siege had ended differently, and that it could have been downplayed to have as little impact as possible on the election.
No, I do not think Obama "knew" that the outcome was going to be as bad as it was....I don't think he is a monster...just that his first response was a political decision, rather than a military one.
I believe that by the time the embassy was attacked Libya was no longer a known hostile foreign country due to the fact that by this time Gaddafi had been deposed and killed and that democracy was returning to the country with EU and US assistance.
Libya is actually more hostile now than it was when Gaddafi was in power...at least toward the US. Gaddafi had not been as active a threat to the US in nearly 20 years. He was, a terrible dictator toward his own people, and I agree that he needed to go. But his days of being a direct threat to the US ended decades ago. Any country, especially one with radical militant ties, is much more a threat when their is no government in place.

While Gaddafi was in power his people suffered, however it was stable. Now that he is gone they are still suffering and the whole place is extremely unstable.

Just read this. What would you have done with aircraft and heavy weapons? Bomb the embassy? Or bomb Libyan soil on the other side of the fence?
Consider that if you attack people over the fence, you're in a world of international political strife, especially if innocents get killed and their blood is on your hands.

I say that they are soldiers. They signed up in the full knowledge that they are expendable, and probably will be dispensed with.
As someone who has lost family members in military conflict, I can't really say what I would like to say here, but let's just say it rhymes with "Duck you, you inconsiderate bastard"
What would you have done with aircraft and heavy weapons? Bomb the embassy? Or bomb Libyan soil on the other side of the fence?
Pretty sure I would have bombed the guys on the side of the fence that were killing our guys, Squish.
And, FWIW, the aircraft that was noted to be in range was a C-130. These planes have precision automatic weapons mounted on them just for close quarter encounters like this. It is very likely that had they intervened, the only casualties would have been the militants. As I stated, one of the seals had the mortar position "tagged" with a laser targeting device that would have allowed for a very precise strike.
Consider that if you attack people over the fence, you're in a world of international political strife, especially if innocents get killed and their blood is on your hands.
There is barely even an established government in Libya right now, and our embassy was under fire from militants on their soil. So, maybe the coward-ass UN would have had something nasty to say, but our Ambassador would have been alive to defend the actions we took. Instead, our President, the Commander in Chief, sat by and watched 4 Americans be murdered, because it may have impacted his bid for re-election. I would much rather have the blood of the Libyan militants, or for that matter, innocents, than the blood of an American Ambassador, and Navy Seals.

Secondly race card inbetween not being the person to start the impeachment process for first African American president. And he will wave his race card around like our own personally signed surrender.
You know, I hadn't planned to comment on this thread, because I do agree that this situation was mishandled. I'm not of a mind that it was done for political gain, but that's beside the point I'm trying to make.
Let me just say this, until the, "race card," is played, you can quit harping about it. It only makes you sound like a racist; because, you're assuming that no impeachment process could ever be initiated because of his race. I would even go so far as to say that you think, should an impeachment process be initiated, he would be pardoned because of his race.
There was no cue for it. You brought it up on your own. That one of your first thoughts about this subject was that his race will save him from impeachment... That is racism if I've ever seen it.
But then, what do I know? I'm just another pot-smoking, tree-hugging, religion-hating, baby-killing, gun-stealing, government-loving, corporation-demonizing hippie. So, feel free to disregard my statement if it makes you feel any better about yourself.

No offense intended, but this is a great example of why much of the world looks on the actions of the United States with very much distaste.
