Dear undercutters: please keep undercutting each other
Return to board index

The day the whiners of undercutting show me that when they needed stacks of something to progress their profession that they went to the auction house and paid 100 gold a stack instead of 25 gold for stacks listed to justify their position... I'll lend them a ear for the negatives of undercutting..until then..it's all just sour grapes.
As for the single posters of stackable items..simple solution...addon
Auctionator
. Just click buy and type in what you want and it posts the best price regardless of how it is posted. No need to scroll through endless posts.
@OP..what's your point?...the undercutters got what they wanted...to clean out their bags into someone else lap.
With gold pouring out of every crevice and players having more of then they will ever need, price matters very little to many of them.
It's the lazy nubs..who want to buy their way through progression instead of earning it who whine about prices.

True, I recommended the addon myself, but maybe some people don't want an addon eating tons of memory ;o

Something that annoys me: when people post up 40 or so single pieces of ore, leather, herb, cloth, etc, rather than stacks. I have to flip and scan through 4 pages of the AH to find the full stacks and gauge the range of what's currently available.
Why do they do this? There is no way I would buy 40 "stacks" of single pieces of ore even if it saved me a couple gold overall. It's not worth all the clicking.
I truly believe people do this to grief others.

Once upon a time, my friend posted 1000 Iceblade Arrows one at a time.
He regretted it the next day =P. (I just remembered this or I would've posted it sooner).

Why?
When I want to buy a lot of stuff it's good that people sell stacks of 20 and when I want only 1 or 2, it's good that people sell in small amounts.
If I want only 1 or 2 why would I want to pay for 20?

Hey everyone, it's time for a follow-up story!
Light leather has been going for 80-100g per stack on Blackwater Raiders. Yesterday, I checked the AH and noticed someone selling the stuff for 8g/stack. I scooped them all up and relisted at 96g/stack. w00t.
This posting style makes no sense for most mats, like ore and herbs and such, but for some items, selling in stacks wouldn't work.
Yeah. Guess which kind of item I'm referring to.
Because ore and herbs can be broken down in groups of five.
"Broken down"?
And not all foods, flasks, potions will sell in a full 10 or 20 stack, so you can go with the 5 to have a nice round number.
Wait, people sell those things on the AH? Who the hell would buy them? You can get them from vendors!
herbs are milled in stacks of 5
"Milled"?

Miners can prospect blocks of five ores for gems.

I believe Adamsm is referring to foods and pots used by players for dungeons/raiding which are (certainly pre-MOP and I can't see any reason for Blizz to change this) only made by other players. Most top guilds will expect you to obtain and bring your own and unless you have levelled your own cooking or have a friendly Alchemist to hand you will often have to obtain off of the AH.
Ditto. The cost of early profession mats and low level greens (not even transmogs) get ridiculous on some servers. I've gotten more than a few thank you notes in-game, some sarcastic and some genuine.
So you actually screwing it up for new players.
Let's imaging you're a new player. As a lowbie you quest and gather cloth and ore and the occasional green drop. You find that your local AH has "ridiculous" prices on those lowbie profession mats so you earn a bucket of gold by selling stuff on AH. Before you know it, you're a level 15 with 1000g, able to pay for repairs and mounts and what not. So what if that nice green chest on AH costs 500g if you're able to earn that by selling 20 stacks of linen cloth or selling those green mail gloves you can't wear anyway? High AH prices are excellent news for a new and poor wow player, the higher the better.
Also imagine you are a new player on a server with ridiculously high AH prices where you are using all the early mats you obtain to level your profession but are facing a huge cost in gold to obtain
Copper Rod
in order that you can start levelling a non gathering prof.
I recently started a new character with no outside help and I was almost level 18 before I had enough gold to to buy that in order to start properly levelling enchanting.

Edit: I don't have to justify doing what I think is fair. Hiss hiss, darling, not everyone has the same play style and not everyone puts importance on pixelated gold.

Well, yes, but you clearly still understand what Adams was talking about.
Similiarly, herbs are milled into ink by scribes in stacks of 5.
Out of any way to break a stack down, I would say groups of five makes the most sense.

1. Mop just came out - people will pay a fortune for what will later sell for a pittance.
2. Auction house addons on EZ mode . click button to post. default setting: undercut.

When I undercut, it's usually because I want the crap out of my bags because I have too much in it. I put 20 stacks of Ghost Iron Ore for 145g buyout last night, 3g lower than other posts, and they all sold within 10 minutes. If they want to repost them and profit off their savings, more power to them. I

That's not the undercutting he's talking about. He means like the others are at 150, and you put yours up for 50.

Sellers complaining about being undercut are really complaining that there are not enough buyers.
...
Right now, most realms have a dysfunctional economy. At any given moment there are too few suppliers of most items, and too few buyers. As a result, prices fluctuate wildly. This is the real complaint... the economy is the problem, not the people participating in it by posting items at deep 'discounts'. There is no smooth price discovery because there are not enough participants.
Best post yet.
This reminds me of something that's been annoying me: I often have a hard time knowing what prices I should post something at because either nobody else or only one other person is selling, and it's at some crazy unexpected price (10g for a stack of rough stone? Really?)
We really, really need cross-realm auction houses.

No, I mean all types of undercutting. Some people undercut, some people complain about getting undercut, and the rest of us buy the undercut items and laugh at the stupidity of the complainers.
I actually do a mix of the first and third. I'll usually undercut everyone else because my need for bag space is a hell of a lot more than my need for gold, but if I see really
extreme
undercutting, I'll buy and repost.
Either way, I'm not the ^&*!@# who posts linen cloth at 20g/stack and then complains about people who are willing to farm and sell it for 18g/stack.

Yesterday, I saw someone selling something like a dozen stacks of linen cloth at 1g50s each. I scooped up all of them and relisted at 4g each. They all sold. This is not the first time I've done.
...and this what I don't understand about the complainers - if my auctions are priced too low, please buy them and re-list them at the "correct" price. It worked for you.
But, maybe it's not just about those who post auctions well below other listed auctions. If I post my auction 1c below another, I hear complaints. Some people expect me to "honor" their prices and post my auctions at the same price. My responsibility is not to other sellers. If I am willing to give up a little profit in order to jump the queue, then the complainers will have to wait their turn at the AH.
