Political attack on an Orc Rogue - what's your response?

Apparently the current composition of the Republican Party of Maine thinks that WoW players are all 22-year-old violent losers, from their tone in this attempt to bash the Democratic candidate, Colleen Lachowicz.
This isn't actually a partisan issue, despite the current configuration. This could as easily be the other way around. This is more a matter of someone's former casual hobby (Santiaga hasn't been actually active for months), a hobby we all share and don't think badly of ourselves for it, being used as a weapon of shame and insult.
The attack webpage is a collection of Colleen's forum posts (yes, they went diving) from 2009 and 2010, long before she became a candidate, where she makes the sort of comments one expects from a player. Sure, she expresses her opinion. It's a forum, that's what happens there. Last I knew, expressing opinions was even protected by the Constitution. Why should she get flayed for the same behaviours others express over football, basketball, baseball... Farmville? Are her opponents that pure and virtuous, that they never need to vent or entertain themselves?
No, wait, we have
loads
of documentation on what politicians (of all stripes) do in their off hours. Is WoW THAT much worse?
Don't let this go unchallenged. When they insult one of us, they tar us all with their same broad brush.

There is only one response to things like this: You laugh long and loud in their faces, and tell them to stop being idiots and morons and go do their jobs as politicians(which I guess technically is there job lol).

Saw this in RB. Saw this on reddit.
All I can really say is "I don't even."

She's only level 68, so that tells me that she's probably actually doing her job during the day. The GOP will latch onto anything to attack. Anyone with sense wouldn't have this affect the way they vote.
It's not like she's Weiner, sending &*!@ pics to girls over twitter.

(I wonder if she takes battletag invites)

I'd like to see what the gaming community can dig up on her rival- I imagine he has worse secrets than playing a game- lol.

True, it could happen on either side. Joe Lieberman was notoriously opposed to video games, for whatever reason.
According to
NBC
, she does have an 85.
She's guildies with a guy on another forum I go to (SDMB, she's in the guild Wreck Crew apparently).

The whole idea makes me want to face palm untill my nose is broken. Seriously, the lengths people will go to attack others... It's disgusting...

They can't attack her policies so they attack a hobby she's apparently placed on the back burner. Politics at it's best *thumbs up*

This is both funny and yet sad.
I also love the one comment from her guild supporting her running. "Also, her DPS is amazing." trololol.

Lieberman is notoriously opposed to anything tech-based. He's just evil.
And he vents his frustration caused by his confusion by having a hissy-fit and trying to get it taken away from everyone else (he's supported (and done beyond that) FOR every anti-Internet bill in the past 4 years at least).

Sounds like fun, I will be digging though the deep deaths of the internet to find stuff, I will be back in a few years... (because I am bad at digging...)
But... you're a dwarf....

Gathering information on political candidates is easy. Gathering information on people already in office is so easy that you could probably do it drunk.
Let's put it this way: If a random citizen can gather a good amount of information on you based on just your non-proxied IP address and name (which they can, very easily), think of how much can be done when they have a dozen leads to go by.
When you put your hat in the ring for any sort of political office, any sort of privacy you had before that is gone. Now anyone has a dozen or so leads to go with, and anything you think you could hide can easily be dug up.

I don't think it's really smart to advertise your addiction to WoW or any other MMO alongside your 'professional' qualifications any more than it would be wise to proclaim yourself as being coke-snorting party animal.
What people do on their personal time is their business as long as those activities do not interfere with their responsibilities.

Granted that a person's "online persona" is not necessarily indicative of who they are in person, it does generally reflect their fundamental thoughts and beliefs.
For instance, if you peruse the forums and identify the WoW players who repeatedly make posts that complain one class is too strong and should be "nerfed" to make it "fair", the vast majority of them would identify with the democratic party.
Players who would identify with republicans may acknowledge that one class poses a higher degree of challenge, but that there is also a way to defeat that class with a combination of tactics and skill.

Let's be honest here...if you have time to play games like WoW, Farmville and such you have time to waste. Even casual players like myself can spend 2-4 hours "briefly".

If I'm not mistaken, I seem to recall seeing an article suggesting that the whole quote involved enjoying stabbing and killing things without repercussions such as getting arrested.
Realistically, it's not the best look for a politician, or anybody really. It's one thing to enjoy overcoming obstacles and defeating other players, but it's another thing to relate it back to real world actions as if they're interchangeable. It's the same argument as the defense against the anti-gaming crusaders - that gamers can and should be able to distinguish between two very different actions of shooting someone in real-life and shooting someone in-game. To suggest that in-game actions are anything like real-life actions (i.e. with talk about linking backstabbing winding you up in jail) is just playing into their hands.

Obviously. Likewise if one plays golf, as Tom Martin (Lachowicz's contestant) does. Likewise if one hunts as a hobby, as Sarah Palin did.

If you think playing WoW is in the same category as doing an illegal drug, you're severely deluded and either on completely the wrong website or ashamed of one of your hobbies.
Edit: Not to mention, I'm fairly sure she didn't even bring up, her opponents did. As it turns out, it's not smart to advertise that one's opponent plays video games, since her campaign has attracted a significant amount of attention and donations since (chump change for the Kochs or Romney, to be fair).
For instance, if you peruse the forums and identify the WoW players who repeatedly make posts that complain one class is too strong and should be "nerfed" to make it "fair", the vast majority of them would identify with the democratic party.
Fascinating analysis chum. Let me guess: dual major in psychology and politics?

Would you mind providing proof for these blanket statements, please? I'm incredibly curious as to how you justify these assumptions.

Your credentials, please. Or, at the very least, tell us why the heck any of us should believe such blanket statements.
