Well, I think tonight we've seen the Spain and Italy looking in very good form.
Iniesta was just superb. Although my concern for Spain would be the style of football they play. I feel they try to pass the ball into the goal, although the looked sharper and more direct when Torres came on.
I believe we have also seen the weakest team in the tournament so far too, in Ireland.
They were poor.
As my home country, I will be giving Spain tons of support in this tournament.
I couldn't agree more with Iniesta's performance. He had like what? 4 ot 5 cuts into the box with some amazing footwork? He is a joy to watch.
I loved the all midfielder no striker set up of the first 75 minutes. I think that yes Torres made the plays faster, but he was given three amazing chances, and failed on all 3. That man has the yipps. I think they will start him in the next game, and sub him out early. Torres has the speed and skill to be amazing, but he is chocking on every attempt. He really needs to get a goal soon so he can get out of his slump.
Oh, and the Italians played well too....damn it, I don't want Spain to play them again!
Cheers,

The thing is Spain don't seem to have many other options, certainly not an out and out striker like Torres is capable of being.
I don't know the team as well as you, but I suppose the only real option other than Torres would be Llorente
Yeah, the problem is that David Villa is out still recovering from his broken leg >_<
I wouldn't be surprised to see another midfielder set up in another game. We were getting the ball right into the box on almost every play, there was just no room to push any shots out at that point. I think that in later games that formation might work well, as we could draw a free kick, or slide a blind kick in.
We'll see what happens against Ireland in the next game though.
Oh well back to the thankless task of supporting England.
5 minutes + stoppage to go! Lets see what happens!
Cheers,
Hat

Did you guys see the Germany Netherlands game?! O M G. What a good game.
First 25 minutes were just relentless back and forth. Long passes with no control, pretty much 6 or 7 guys running the entire time. I was watching the game and said to myself, some of these midfielders are going burn themselves out, and then its going to be whatever team has the most endurance.
It was clear by the end of the first half that the Germans had run the Netherlands tired. The defense was not there, and there was so little communication, Gomez, the German with a Spanish name, was able to receive some amazing amazing assists, and put the ball in the net.
Germany is on form to play some great matches for the rest of the cup. I just hope that the Spanish attrition style of play will slow them down enough to stop their amazing pace.
Cheers

p.s. won't be able to watch the Spain game today until 6pm, so around 3:30 pm, I won't be visiting the internet anymore =P

Assuming Germany goes "all out" and doesn't settle for a tie, than I'm pretty confident in their ability to beat Denmark.
The Netherlands beating Portugal however, I don't have too much faith in. Especially if they show the same weak performance they displayed against Germany. Even than, a 2 goal difference is going to be very unlikely.

Well, seems like someone didn't get the memo that we need a 2 goal difference in order to have a chance to advance. We we're playing very good the first 15 minutes, but after our goal it seems they all decided they did enough work for the day, and started playing like their previous matches.
Surprised Portugal isn't at a 3-1 or 4-1 score yet considering the huge chances they got due to the lack of any form of defense from us.

Well deserved victory for Portugal, and a well deserved execution for The Netherlands. And lol@ Ronaldo fixing his hair in halftime, talk about the embodiment of "Pride".

Being Dutch i watched...and cried.
While fun to watch...the current Dutch team's only a shadow of what it was two years ago in Africa.
.
Are you kidding?
They were basically the same team.
The difference was the usual infighting and ego trips that usually destroy the Dutch raised their head much more in Euro 2012.
I think that's what Xedosz was referring to. He didn't mean a shadow of what it was in Africa in terms of player setup, but in terms of moral, mentality and attitude (although there were various players who weren't at the playing level that they were in Africa either).
On another note, there must not be many football fans on Wowhead for a Euro thread to be so quiet!
