Not in that sense. More in the sense that for around 95% of the world's population, being employed (or being supported by someone who is) is basically mandatory if you want to maintain an acceptable quality of life. In less-privileged countries than Australia, it's mandatory if you want to
live
.
So I guess you could say it's an implied slavery.

Actually, all employment is a form of slavery.
You know, stripped of an economic system, you would have to provide for yourself. You'd have to find a way to grow food, and build shelter, and mend your clothes, etc. You'd have to wake up at the crack of dawn and tend to your crops, split firewood, care for any animals you had. You'd have to work to live. Slavery I tell ya. Stuff I need/want should just snow down out of the sky. I want a lolipop, and BAM, one lands on the ground in front of me. Thank you, government, that was just what I wanted.

I was being sarcastic. Slavery, by definition, is forced labor without wages. Since jobs are agreed upon labor with wages, donny was doing nothing but dilluting the cause for actual slavery with his attempts to smear capitalism. It's just the same whiney Chomsky stuff people have been putting out for 40 years.
I have to work to get stuff I need? It's not fair.
Pay no mind to it.

Well blow me down and call me an idealist, but I think that stripped of an financial system that we would still have our food provided by agriculture, our dwellings designed by engineers, and our children educated by teachers. People would work to contribute to the society they live in, not so that they didn't go broke and starve to death. Tell me, what percentage of jobs do you think exist
purely because
we live in a financial system?

If I were a teacher, and the financial system collapsed, I'd try to grow some stuff to eat, not trust that food will magically appear from the "agriculture system", which, as it happens, was built on the financial system that just collapsed.
While I would want to contribute my education to youth, I would feel an instinctual need to eat that would overpower my need to write on a chalk board.

I'm amazed that this thread got all the way to this, starting only from revelation that food costs more in NYC than it does in North Bend, Oregon(!) in only four pages.
I'm amazed that this thread got all the way to this, starting only from Hat posting some photos of our night out in town, lol.

Also, aliens.

Also, aliens.
I think that they probably exist. I mean, beings on other planets. Hmmm... If for some reason beings came from other planets and they had Bibles, would you rethink religion at all?
Oh, wait... were we talking about illegal immigration?
PS. what is your view on the impact of homosexual marriage on capitalistic vs communistic societies views on abortion?
Edit: Did I cover everything?... oh wait... had to add abortion

I already believe in God. If aliens came from another planet and had the exact same bible, then I would feel that was pretty convincing evidence. Especially since the Bible we have started as a collection of separate stories that an assembly was called to vote on, and pick which ones would be canonical.
EDIT: Would you be against me aborting an alien fetus, MyTie, since it wouldn't strictly be a human life?
I mean, I'd keep the alien, but if it was to come up.

Do you think there would be people who would still reject the Bible?
