#332- Do you think that people should keep cats outdoors?
This is kind of a weird question. What sparked you to ask this?
On-Topic: It all depends. In the city, where it is dangerous for cats, no. In the country, heck yes. Cats keep rodent population and snake population down on farms. They keep away "stray" cats, and perhaps even larger cats. They are the police of my farm, and really good at it. They don't do a very good job keeping away coons, though. Cats, no matter where, should be "fixed", unless intended for breeding.

no cat without front claws should be allowed out!
Totally agree. Poor bugger is defenseless against predators. Might as well put BBQ sauce on them and throw them in a snake pit.

Just looking for questions that people might fall on both sides of. Some people will be in the "Cate can take care of themselves camp," others in the "It's dangerous for them," of "A lot of times they can damage property", camps.
My father has a close (within 10 feet) neighbor who feeds and keeps about 15 cats on almost no yard, and so they roam the rest of the neighbors properties as well. They urinate and defalcate on everyone's porches and plants and sit on everyone's cars and scratch them up. They keep damaging parts of the structure (lattice around the underside of the house) to make nests. They aren't fixed, so they create kittens. And the people who live next to him keep feeding them so they don't disperse, but take no other responsibility for them, and the town won't come get them because you're allowed to have free-roaming cats.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

I can think of a few questions that people would fall on both sides of. Guaranteed.

Nothing overly debate-worthy though. Anything that could go on for weeks should probably have its own thread.

NUUuuuu, kitties belong inside where they can be forced to cuddle and get kisses and hugs.
This.
On my country people are mean, they often poison animals when they feel they're an annoyance (No animal protection here). One of my neighbors rescued a big dog from the streets, poor thing was wretched, missing hair, one eye, and one leg, and had god only knows how many parasites. He fixed him up, fed him, send him to a veterinary, and within 2 months the dog was gorgeous, healthy, in good condition, but another of the neighbors, a really cruel and vicious old man (Try and guess what side of the political fence he is, go on, take a guess) hated that dog, and gave him meat with rat poison on it, and the poor innocent dog ate it and died.
There are too many dangers on the street, from bigger predators (Such as snakes of which there's plenty where I live) cars, evil people, etc, that I NEVER allow my cat to leave my house, ever. All the windows are always closed, she's bound by instinct to pee and poo in her litter-box so I never have to clean up any mess on the house, and the few times I have to take her outside, its always inside her kennel.
I'm very protective of my little cat. No matter how mean she is to me, she's my friend, companion, and loyal pet.

All of our cats have been outdoor cats. We do have an issue with strays around here, but most of them seem to be fixed as we don't have an influx of kittens every few months.
Yes there is always the problem of the road(we've lost one cat to it), but since most of what we adopt are half-feral from the get go(our most recent is the daughter of a cat who lives outside full time), we do let them out since they seem to need to be out there...now if she'd stop catching mice, birds, bats and the odd snake and bringing them to us; we keep telling her we're not hungry and there's lots of food in the fridge, but oh well.

The question is, should cats keep humans outside?

The question is, should cats keep humans outside?
If they do that, who's going to change the litter box and the food dish?

Our tomcat growing up would wander off for months and months. Then he'd show up, same old sweetheart as always.
I neighbor always had a plethora of kitties though. Not sure why ;P

If someone would like to take over the QOTD thread, I'd really appreciate it.
