This Saturday night I'm going to be in Seattle. Typically though, it's usually spent either at my girlfriend's place, at my parents' place, or at my place, with my girlfriend in all of the above.

#211- If human extinction were (or is) inevitable, what will cause it?
Humanity's stupidity or aggression; IE we're gonna blow ourselves up or do some grand experiment that will tear the planet apart/open a portal to some hellish dimension/create a new super bug/create our own evolutionary replacements.

Mushrooms. Really good mushrooms.
Mushrooms you eat, that is?
Of course. How else would you experience mushrooms?
Ugh, freaking Wowhead sometimes. Anyway, "Mushroom" is slang for something else up here, and I forgot you guys might not know that.
Please tell. It sounds fascinating.
#208- What songs can you only listen to loud?
I can't think of any. However, anything with a mix of very quiet instruments and very loud ones is definitely better if you crank up the volume. If you don't, then you won't hear the quieter instruments at all, and you'll miss out on the subtleties and complexities of the song.
#209 You are given the chance to control the future - or rather, one single piece of it. You can choose one facet of how humans will live their lives fifty years from now, and only one.
It can be moon cities, or rocket cars, or medical immortality, or world peace, or pretty much anything else that can be described in a single short noun phrase.
You can control how it's granted (so wishing for "world peace" doesn't kill the entire world, thereby creating peace because there's nobody to fight), but you can't control what people will do with it once they have it.
What do you choose?
I'd make everyone a transhumanist atheist vegan libertarian. We are the only true freethinkers; all who disagree shall be sent to the re-education camps to be told how to think more freely.
Note: everything before the semicolon was serious. Everything after was a joke. This is called "humor" and is not the same as trolling.
Honestly, its a very good topic, because if you look at almost any "reasonable"answer, there is going to be negative, unintended consequences for most all of them.
Not mine.
Lets take your example..."world peace". Now, if I get to be omnipotent in this fantasy, this would be a great choice. If I just wish it, and all wars suddenly end for good, that is great. But if you apply an actual "how" to it, none of the options come without consequences...
I would be interested to see if anyone can come up with an actual idea, that is a truly groundbreaking, game-changing, concept, that had actual possibilities of happening, that didn't carry as much or more negative consequence as it did positive.
Okay, here's one: everyone stops being a bunch of arseholes to each other.
There, world peace, no negative consequences! What do I win?
Lets be honest, if somebody had that good of an idea without just using a fairy dust to cover up the cracks, they'd likely not share it in the Off-Topic section of a World of Warcraft forum. They'd probably be applying for a patent, or running for a high-profile public office,
Believe it or not, I was running for Congress at the beginning of this year. Unfortunately, I got evicted and time that should have been spent gathering petition signatures was instead spent house-hunting.
Maybe 2014?
I could see, in 50 years, an alternative for the modern internal combustion engine being viable, especially for cars. (It would take some pretty serious advances in technology to replace the diesel engines used in trucking, just because of the shear amount of power and torque they require to move such heavy loads.) But I do think that advances in electric or hydrogen fuel cells could replace the gasoline engine...
if
the auto industry could be persuaded to do so. The biggest roadblock to advancing this technology is the co-dependence of the oil industry with the auto industry.
If we could reduce the dependence on gasoline by 75%, that would allow many countries to become fully oil independant
No, that wouldn't work. As I already pointed out, the uses of crude oil go WAY beyond gasoline and diesel. You could get rid of every internal combustion engine in the world and it wouldn't make a dent in crude oil consumption.
A much better idea is widespread adoption of thermal depolymerization and similar technologies to basically turn garbage into synthetic crude oil. THAT is awesome.
#210- What does your typical Saturday night consist of?
The same thing we do every night, Pinky...
#211- If human extinction were (or is) inevitable, what will cause it?
Free markets, the right to bear arms, and warmer weather, if Democrats are to be believed; alternatively, it will be Mexicans, socialism, and gay marriage, if Republicans are to be believed. But which party is telling me the truth?
(Obviously, they're both full of crap. Vote libertarian)
Serious answer: Homo Superior. If every gram of coal, oil, and natural gas under the Earth's surface were to be burned and the ice caps melt, it wouldn't make the world inhospitable to human life. Even if Israel, Syria, and Iran managed to drag NATO, Russia, and China (respectively) into World War III, and every metropolitan area in the world with a population of more than 80,000 received a hydrogen bomb, it
still
wouldn't be enough to exterminate humanity. No, Homo sapiens won't go away except by becoming obsolete and getting gradually phased out in favor of our replacements.
