Something I've noticed for myself, if it's a bed I consider 'home' I sleep well, very little tossing and turning, don't wake up much etc etc. Which well, makes staying over at my girlfriend's interesting lol; I wake up a lot through out the night at her place.
As for what helps me to sleep; I usually have music on and if I don't, takes me forever to finally fall asleep. And yes, I have woken up on nights where the power goes out, staggered over to the computer, turned it back on and put the music back on too lol.
Though, I do have a weird ritual too, that shows up every few weeks; I'll wake up about three hours before my alarm is suppose to go off, sit up in bed, look around, check the time, then go back to bed. Still haven't figured out why I do this.

#134- Is there some weird thing you need to sleep? Like can you not sleep without white nooise, a light on, etc.
Growing up, I use to have a little TV in my room and I would always fall asleep to it. Sometimes when I can't sleep or want to get to that point, I will turn on something like "Friends" and within 30 seconds I will be conked out. The funny thing is, my husband sleeps with no sound and so I'll usually go downstairs and watch TV until the point where I am falling asleep and then go back upstairs.

To fall asleep, I need something to bolster my head. If I can't elevate my head slightly compared to the rest of my body, I won't sleep.
A pillow usually does the job (obviously) but when I'm roughing it sometimes I have to be creative. When I sleep under the stars at the beach, bunching up some sand works. Once I slept at Sydney's Central railway station on the concrete in winter, and I took my shoes off and chucked them in my backpack, used that as a bolster and I slept fine (for an hour or two until the cold from the concrete finally soaked through my clothes). I've tried using just using a single shoe, but it's not good. It's too small, the shape is too irregular, and it stinks.
To wake up feeling rested, there is really only 1 requirement, and that is that I have uninterrupted sleep. The hours don't matter to me very much - my body clock gets overhauled once every 1-2 months, so sometimes I'm sleeping 10 hours and sometimes I'm sleeping 5 - but if I can't get through that entire period with no disturbances, I won't feel rested. The most common disturbance would be being too cold, I very rarely wake due to noise (I've been known to sleep through house parties), unless it's targeted at me - I am attuned to my phone ringing or someone knockig on my bedroom door, for example.
Oh, and for the record, you asked a very similar question a couple of weeks ago: how do you sleep? Just saying.

Just like during the day, I have to have music. Most morning's I'll wake up with my earbuds still in.

I can sleep pretty much anywhere/anyhow. Military taught me that.

No the other question was how do you sleep; this is what do you need to sleep with.

I can sleep pretty much anywhere/anyhow. Military taught me that.
More or less my case, except replace "Military" with "Sabaneta"
more than one night I had to sleep in the dirt, with no pillow or blanket, while there was a brawl less than a few yards away, and a gunfight on the other side of the fence due to a gangwar.
Once you get used to sleep through THAT, sleeping in a puffy bed, with a soft pillow, a warm blanket, an air conditioner, a beautiful woman at your side(wife), a lovely cat at your feet(pet), and a precious little girl in the middle(daughter), feels pretty much like paradise.

This isn't something I require, but I always tend to sleep well in absolute darkness. And that means like, NO lights, not any kind. It's somehow soothing to be unable too see anything, and I could sleep all day in a room like that.

I used to have to have a fan pointed on me to be able to sleep, but when my fan died I got over it. I pretty much absolutely need my music, and I sleep with my headphones on. When they inevitably die sleep comes hard for a few days until I can get a replacement pair.

If I said it in this thread, I'd probably get banned. In general, though, it's mostly reading books or just playing games/blogging until I collapse.
