#119- What are some of the most unreasonable demands (or requests) you've ever heard?
You know- customers who have an absolutely ridiculous sense of entitlement, family members who think the world revolves around them, friends who don't have any sense of boundaries, etc.

I picked this question, because to day on the radio on the way into work, some woman was talking about her upcoming wedding. It was planned for December. Recently, her soon-to-be sister-in-law got pregnant, and now her fiancee's family wants to change the date of the whole wedding to accommodate the fact that the sister in law doesn't want to be pregnant in the bridal party. My initial reaction was "good luck with that family." I can't imagine anyone being that selfish and completely unreasonable in terms of wanting the whole world to revolve around them.

I logged in just to comment on this alone. When I got married, my sister was my maid of honor - her due date was also less than a week away! My sister and I are best friends and I let her choose whatever she wanted to wear, as long as she was comfortable. She ended up picking a really nice maternity dress and wore flats. She looked beautiful, even though she was nine months pregnant.
Of course I got the, "Oh my gosh - you should change the date of your wedding!" But it was always my sister who defended me and said that she was completely fine with it. And a week later, I became an Aunt for the first time! The best wedding gift EVER! )

I remember helping a family who flat out, sternly said to me "You better help me before helping those baboons." (in regards to a black family) I told them I refused to help them and they left, called my boss the next day and told her how much of a terrible employee I was. It was a &*!@ show, for sure.

Oh noes- pancake bunny may have to make an appearance if this thread goes on a tangent.
I have had all manner of ridiculous customer requests- especially when I worked graveyard at a casino/hotel. I have been asked to go upstairs and earn $1000 and to dance in the lobby with a drunk (both men had a hard time understanding why I wouldn't). I will say that I rather enjoyed drunk dancing man.

#119- What are some of the most unreasonable demands (or requests) you've ever heard?
"
Prove there isn't a god
" has got to be right up there.
I would give this a +1, but I have a feeling it might be moderated.

Prove there is a God.
Both good examples. The existence of God is not something you can either prove or disprove- it's based on faith. Whether you believe or you don't. I find that once people start talking about needing proof, the conversation just goes haywire because it completely misses the point of what God is supposed to be about, regardless of whether or not he's real.
I find that people demand proof mostly do it to piss off the other side. If there was proof he existed, it wouldn't be a debate. And it's virtually impossible to prove something doesn't exist.
And not one person demands proof for every single thing they do or do not believe. If you meet someone somewhere, having taken their word that they'll show up, then you had faith they'd come through without any proof of it. If you trust other human beings to act a certain way, because of your past experiences with them, then you're forecasting future behavior with circumstantial evidence, but not proof. Things like morality and the importance of human life aren't things we have any way to measure or prove- we just believe that human life is important, human suffering is wrong, and that there are things that are right and wrong.
Honestly, once the word proof enters into religious debate I tend to bow out, because at that point nothing constructive is going to happen.

Well said. I fully agree.

Back in 2008 I had just been selected to be part of the U20 national team; basically the national team for anyone under 20 years, referred to as "Junior Team" in Sweden. Obviously, I was really, really happy (it's basically only one step away from actually being part of the Senior National Team, which is insanely hard to do. A lot of Swedish national record holders don't get to participate in every major competition if they haven't performed up to expectations for the last ~2 months, so it requires constant high performance) since it's a really big step-up in any career.
Anyway, we got to Berlin and the first two days of the competition went as expected, nerves making me a wreck and making me perform below expectations (as was to be expected though, lol). By the third day the head coach in charge of the Junior Team told me that I was to give up my spot in the only final I had gotten to for the entire weekend, because we had 4x200 relays directly after (A lot of swimming terms here, I know, but it's basically the toughest "team race" where 4 people each swim 200m freestyle. It's a pretty high-profile race and without a doubt a really exhausting thing to swim). If I didn't give up my finals spot, I would be excluded from the relay team and not get to participate in anymore EJMs (It's basically the Junior European Championships), ever. I don't like being threatened, so I stood my ground and declared, rather frankly, that the head coach could go **** himself, I was swimming the finals. I followed through with that and swam the finals, ending up last - and the head coach, just as promised, excluded me from the 4x200 relays despite protests from the other three guys in the relay team.
The head coach ended up being fired a few months later because he had been inappropriately "touching" one of the female swimmers on his team and I got to swim EJM again next year, but that is always the first thing that jumps to mind when someone says "unreasonable demand".

Customer on the phone: Come to my house and do this for me.
Me: I can't do that sir.
Customer: Why the hell not!
Me: Because sir, I live in Ontario, and you are in Texas.

Work at the equivalent of a full-time job without any payment because it's a "family duty."
And I'm not talking about your basic $%^& like mowing the lawn or washing dishes either.
(Eventually I did force payment though, since it is, after all, a job.)

Working with no pay attached to it.
Or working near-slave hours for dirt pay.
Completely unreasonable, and yet very common in venezuela. Most of the time, if you wanna enter some company, or you wanna work for the ministery of education, or other gubernatorial entities, you enter as an unpaid employee. You gotta work for over 10 hours a day, with ZERO PAYMENT and I don't mean "I work at wal-mart and make no money" I mean zippo, nada, not a single penny.
FOR OVER 5 YEARS!
The other side of the coin is working for independent people, for example, there is a small business very popular here, "Call centers". Phone calls are kinda expensive here (pfft, other than gas EVERYTHING IS) specially cellphone calls, so there are these places where you pay like 3000 bolivares to rent a phone for 5 min to make a call, and its cheaper than just actually using your phone.
Ok, but these call centers (really a fancy name for just a simple tent with a table inside and 3 or 5 phones in it) need to be operated by someone right? well, whoever owns a call center is usually too lazy to operate it himself or herself, so they hire people and have the WORST PAY EVER. I'm talking working from 7 am to 11 pm WITH NO LUNCH BREAKS from monday to sunday including festive days, for a measly pay of 250.000 bolivares per week. THAT'S BORDERLINE SLAVERY.
And yet some people are so desperate for a job (ya know, plummeting economy and all that) that they are perfectly willing to bust their asses from dawn to dusk for this dirt money, or NO MONEY AT ALL, in the hopes of actually getting a job.
That is completely unreasonable, and people who do this should be put to jail.

Pretty much any philosophical question. My philosophy teacher once came into class and dropped a bag and on the ground and told us to prove he did it.
Of course we couldn't and I wanted to punch him...
