Sean Connery and Sir Ian Mckellen are as old as the hills...but you don't get more bad ass then those two; age has nothing to do with bad assery.

True Statement, however, I'm saying...
okay, lemme put it this way. In chronological (off the top of my head) order. Badasses went like this... (not all emcompassing btw)
Bruce Lee/Chuck Norris
Arnie/Sly/Bruce Willis
Jet Li/Wesley Snipes/Mel Gibson
Russel Crowe/Vin Diesel
Statham/Niesen/Bale
etc. etc.
My point is, Wesley Snipes kinda sticks out because he was a strange mix. He was witty and had a lot of character but was also young and vibrant and did awesome action sequences and stuff. Edit. Oh and he was black... kinda left that out.
I'd TRY to say Terry Daniels but he's all roided out looking and stuff. If Tyrese wasn't such a @#$%^& and did better roles and was a better actor and a tad bit more of a badass, I could EASILY see him replacing Snipes.
The point I'm tryin to make is, there is a niche that Snipes fulfilled that I don't see being recovered.
Will Smith COULD have done it... but nope... dude fell off. I don't think his son can pull it off either but one movie isn't enough to judge on.

Chuck is not a bad ass; he's a meme.
And as much as I dislike Independence Day, Smith was good in that. He can pull off the serious action hero if he needs to, but most of the movies he's in are far too comedic.

snipAmazing. I'm so glad to see people putting their VERY own personal opinions in here... mind boggling. I love it! :-D
lol... I never advertised it as anything but opinion. I didn't think this was anything but a thread about what people think of various actors/actresses. If I'm wrong, let me know.
As for the topic:
I like Don Cheadle. Don't know why. I don't find him particularly provoking, nor skilled. He doesn't stand out to me in any particular way, but I like him in a movie. Something about the way he portray's his characters makes them likable.
I can't say I'm really excited about Denzel Washington. So many of his movies are rehashes of almost the same movie he has already done. But, he has done some unique stuff. I find him watchable.
I'm sorry i don't agree with this statement at all. Yes the blade movies are all about snipes being a badass, but i've yet to see a movie where reeves has impressed me as an action star. And the only thing i ever seem to think about when i'm watching keanu is that his range of emotion and acting skills has not improved since his days in Bill and Ted.Hmmm... I wouldn't consider him a GREAT actor. But, I just like Constantine and The Matrix. I mean, if I were going to cast an action movie tommorrow, I probably wouldn't choose Keannu Reeves, but I definitely wouldn't choose Wesley Snipes. I think they both probably have the same "range of emotion".

I agree on constantine and the matrix was a great movie but it's sequels weren't.
As far as denzel not really being an action star have you seen "book of eli"? If that doesn't change how you view denzel then nothing will. The first fight scene changed how i see him as an actor just like how "From Paris With Love" changed the way i see John Travolta. i swear Travolta plays a better bad guy/bad ass then he does when he's playing the comedic or good guy role.

Considering most of the discussion has been about Asian action actors (read: non-white actors) I don't think that there HAS to be a black action star as it seems the OP has issue with there being a plethora of them.
In fact, it's probably better not to look at them as
colored
action stars but instead AS action stars. Just because there is a lot of white actors in a genre, it doesn't mean you have to balance it out with a black actor. Actors are chosen because of the talent they have. If you throw in a black actor just because there's a lack of one and he's not good with action films, he'll stick out like a sore thumb.
I find it odd that the OP discredits Denzel and Cheadle. They may not be martial artists or fight hand-to-hand in their movies but that doesn't mean they're out of the action genre. It seems OP wants a new black actor to make a 90s film again? People don't go for that anymore. Crank tried that and while it was a tiny bit refreshing, the sequel wasn't well-received at all.
P.S.
Samuel L. Jackson
Terrence Howard
Djimon Hounsou (If not
Blood Diamond
, then at least count
Never Back Down
or
Gladiator
.
Laurence Fishburne
Samuel L. Jackson - Nope. He doesn't do action "sequences" like Snipes in Blade-ish. I meant more along the lines of someone with a career AHEAD of them also, not an accomplished career of badassimitude of hailing righteous wrath and judgement and purple light-sabers for like 30 years already. Lemme clarify SLJ = BADASS but not the Wes Snipes genre. He's like a black Tommy Lee Jones.
Terry Howard, good ole Terry... how did you @#$% up being in Iron Man! I was SHOCKED he didn't come back. Terrence Howard doesn't strike me as an imposing guy either. Too pretty. I'm thinking like a black equivalent of what Liam Niesen/Jason Statham/Sam Worthington are today, but yaknow, younger than Liam Niesen.... and probably nowhere near as good an actor... lol
The dude from gladiator is great but doesn't have any charisma, like if you took: him, the guy from Spartacus (and Jason X i recently realized!), and Will Smith(charisma only) and made them into somebody... that might be pretty effing badass... like Blade-ass. yeah. New word describing what i mean.
Laurence Fishbourne = Disqualified from any badass list for being VERY associated with Pee Wee's Playhouse. also he's too old
Terrence Howard didn't come back because he was the highest paid actor in the first one and they were about to give him a huge paycut.
And clearly the issue is there not being a black action star in movies. There are plenty. It's just a matter of you liking one of them that holds up to your "Snipes standard."

What about Terry Crews?
Oh and apparently there was a scene in Wheels on Meals where a kickboxer kicked out a candle inadvertently. Random fact.

Everyone swears by it but I always found it tasted weak and stale. But let's not derail the thread with food.

If I had to guess, Ryan Gosling, Joseph-Gordon Levitt or (especially for action movies) Tom Hardy.
My sister loves the first two and my gym training friend loves the last one. Personally there aren't any actors around that I'd hate myself for skipping a movie with them in it. There are a few directors that I love though.

The only Ryan Gosling film I've ever watched was Drive, which I think my friend later appropriately described as "watching sexy wallpaper dry".
My ovious ones are Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and co. Basically the core of the HP cast. But most of all Emma, naturally. EMMA. <3
Um, and depending on how the HG movie goes, probably Jennifer Lawrence too. I already really, really like her as an actress. She's also pretty bang tidy. :D

Totally agree with your friend's description there actually.
Ides of March was mad decent though... I really disliked X-Men: First Class, so I'll reserve judgement lol. It is weird seeing actors from the 90s though, makes me realise how little I've done with my life.

Wesley snipe will always have me respect for his performance in Demolition Man. Never gets tired to watch that movie, so freaking bad ass.
For someone to fill his shoe, I got no idea. Someone will appear sooner or later ofc, but would not like to gamble.
