In every first playthrough of any RPG I play, I always play as the tank, so typically warrior tank spec, just because I find it easier to manage my party if I directly control the enemies attacks and in most RPGs warrior gear looks better than the caster gear :s
I mostly play battle-mage typed characters. I like being able to switch between melee and ranged combat quickly. Plus it looks pretty badass.

Caster. I always go into a new game with the intention of trying a different class, but I always end up a caster. I fell in love with my daggers in the demo of Reckoning, but then they handed me a staff and I couldn't put the daggers back on >.<
I always play the most darkest one. If there is choice between ranged, melee or caster, I prefer caster. So, it's usually some dark mage.
Almost always a melee type of character, combined with some spells to get out of a sticky situation, some self healing and for some diversity in gameplay.
My first choice of class in an RPG is typically a thief or assassin. On subsequent playthroughs I usually try either an archer/ranger or a warrior.
I am the back-stabbing type, I mostly take the Rogue Class because it suits my "Shadowy" personality. I've played the BETA many times and loved the Rogue class as much as the one in WoW. Though I will change some gear depending on the situation, the daggers are pretty handy to catch your opponent/target off-guard (When silently approaching from behind). Even though they may not last long on the battlefield but they can provide a lot of DPS and kill many opponents swiftly.
I tend to always play a ranger or marksman type class.
I usually play a paladin, some sort of tank and or healer=]
In single player RPGs I play jack of all trades, because a real hero is a master of all.
I always play as a berserker type warrior, with high charisma/persuasion skills :)
I'm Xtrmsin and I play melee, if possible hybrid with magical abilities ( like Shaman ) or tank.
If there's a class I usually always pick first it's a warrior type class. My weapon of choice a strong two-handed weapon and editing my stats good enough to make me faster than most warriors so I don't just feel like a meat head swinging around a huge weapon with only killing in mind. I also just do it for story reason, especially if there's magically beings involved. They always make it seem that most people can only be defeated by another magic user in the story, well I make a warrior to prove that even though I have no magical powers, through my strength and skill alone, no magic can stop me. So that's what makes me want to become a warrior first before anything else.
I've often wondered about this myself, because I don't have a certain type. In some games, melee DPS is my favorite, in others it's healing, and in WoW I love casters. But I usually gravitate to characters that can deal lots of damage really quickly before I can get hit =P
Tank or tank/dps hybrid. Like a DK or a shadowknight in EQ2.
In most RPGs I enjoy playing melee characters. In wow I prefer ranged characters.
