i usually play Warrior types when i play western style rpgs. I have always had a fondness for running headfirst into battle in video games. Big swords and awesome looking armor make me feel all tingly inside.
I usually like to push the game's barriers with a rogue wearing plate (aka beserker) or a rogue mage or some sort of hybrid class usually gets my jib.
I prefer casters. I like needing little to no equipment on my characters. Leaves more room for loot. Magical attacks are usually more fun to watch as well. Physical combat in most fantasy games is incredibly bland.
I usually player the healer class and if that's not viable the good old mage
When I'm playing the RPG, I usually pick priest as I love healing and Light. But the dark side of his strength is pretty cool too ^^

Spellcaster, mage or wizard. Ever since I was a little girl I found the idea of casting spells so much more appealing than swinging an axe in someones face, total girly cliche maybe but I embrace it! Love throwing fireballs around, or eletrocuting foes, or slowing them with frost... a really good caster class still gets me excited like that eight year old I was when I started playing games, looking forward to Diablo 3 and Reckoning already!
I play mostly ranged dps but usually something with bows or guns. I like killing things from afar.
If it's possible, I play summoner type class. Any ranged class (mage, archer) are most fun to play for me.
Mmm, i'm play tank, sometimes stupid but charismatic (yep, lawful wood) sometimes a little more selfish
Range physical dps/rogue. Though if the game is good I (re)play it from a several perspectives...
Hiya, I usually end up playing hybrid casters / healers in single player rpg's as I tend to prefer to kill things from afar and not be hindered by the baddies who want to eat my face. In mmorpg's my preferences are tanks and healers as they require more responsibility and reactive play then damage dealers who usually have to fit in max dps through a fixed rotation, whilst being forced to adapt to the situational hazards of the encounter. If the game allows for support roles, like the original shaman and paladin in wow were, or like the survival hunter can now provide in current wow, those roles are a lot of fun as well. Being able to taunt and then feign death, to save a tank, when the off-tank is indisposed, using cc, dispelling enrages and whatnot, are the fun bits in play, whereas pure dps for the numbers / killspeed doesn't get me excited.
Typically I usually play melee classes, I'm notoriously terrible at casters EXCEPT if the game has some kind of cleric or priest class. For some reason, I don't tend to do too badly with healers. Melee wise, I try to go for tankier "in your face" fighters, there's just something distasteful to me about stealth fighters that make me avoid them.
Personally it depends on the style of RPG. In a video game setting the caster role generally feels limited to me as I think of magic as "if you can think it, you can do it", while most video game RPGs have a set of spells you can pick from (as makes sense for such a game). In such games I generally favor a physical damaging source of one form or another. Right now in WoW, I'm using my warrior predominately.
Generally play a Warrior hands down. I enjoy being in the face of the action either taking the hits or breaking faces.
I always begin with a class that affords a lot of control over a situation, escape options, and subtlety. I main a Rogue in Warcraft, my first Skyrim character was a Sneak specialist with Bows and Daggers, and always try to be the quiet and unassuming guy in public.I also enjoy characters with magical ability, especially those involving fiery explosions of doom. Thus, Fire Mage is high on my list of played characters.Bottom line? I want to dictate which enemy I attack first, how effective its attacks will be, and whether or not I will permit it to even see me before I stunlock it to death. If it can fight back, then I want control over its movement and a ready escape route for trouble. Run away, in order to get behind it for a guaranteed kill!
