Caster/melee hybrids. Such as the Shaman or the Chanter in Aion. I think it roots back to the sword-mage in DnD. XD
Front-line damage dealers. Odd is the exception where I play pet casters, rare though it may be. Something is just more satisfying about destroying your opponents in melee as opposed to being in the background and flinging spells or arrows.
I have almost every time picked mage type of class.. maybe there is something wrong in me :(

In MMOs, I normally play a healing class; but in traditional RPGs I usually try to go for a ranged/mage build to begin with and will roll a melee later on.
I play an archer/marksman class. More rogue than ranger though. Have to be crazy to not like the loot that you get from lockpicking! And shooting/stabbing things in the back now and then helps =D
I usually play a caster when I roll my first character, however if you want to go back as far as Ultima Online, I would definitely say caster/warrior is the way to go, nothing like blowing things up from a distance then slitting their throat if they survive to get close enough to swing at you.
I tend to play a healer type in RPGs. :D
i like to play fighters or mages
Traditionally thief classes, but in MMO's I'm leaning towards tanking. For Reckoning I'm looking at daggers and sorcery.
In MMOs, I like to play as a tank, but for something like this (or Skyrim), I enjoy being a caster or some sort of sneaky class (thief, rogue, assassin, etc.)
I usually find myself being a caster to start, but branch out to other types later on.
