Return to board index

I've removed three off topic, argumentative posts. There's no need for disagreements or antagonism in this thread.
Please could we maintain a respectful and friendly atmosphere in this thread and forum.
Many Thanks.

Classic. That's awesome. I can tell you from an IT prospective, that issues like this (network/coding/etc) can be hard to narrow down. I for one, will continue to wait patiently for the profiler to be restored to is awesomesauce glory.
I wonder if the employers at WH are hiring and if so, what positions and/or qualifications are required for such a position.

I had sent in feedback asking about the ETA on Profiler before I saw this thread, so apologies for that. I'm glad to see the Devs on top of this. :) (Like some others, I rely on the Profiler for tracking gear for my characters.)
Just as a point of curiosity, will we see any fixes to Profiler when it comes up? (Example: reforging certain stats--haste, in particular comes to mind--hasn't actually updated the stat correctly for a long time.)

Nope
. However, positions open up periodically, and sometimes they'll make an announcement thread about it, so make sure to check often =)

The devs have said probably not, because the profiler, despite using most of their resources, doesn't pull in as much traffic as the forums or database, so it's low priority on updates.

Ah, that's a little disappointing. I'm very happy with Profiler as is, feature-wise; all it needs is those minor bugs in the numbers and formulas fixed. (I get a little tired of having to figure out my haste manually due to reforges.)
Keep up the good work, devs!

That's surprising to hear as the main reason I use Wowhead is primarily for the profiler!
Thanks for making such features available and good luck with the fixing.

I had to quote this for emphasis as this is one of the main reasons I use Wowhead as well. The character profiles are really useful because we can see our Archaeology projects, missing recipes and what not. Really helpful tool for doing all those side things in Warcraft.
Also thanks for making this feature available to us and I cannot wait to use it again.

I have a technical mumbo jumbo update today: our server admin has been running a restore to get the profiler online, it's at around ~60%. He's been running it for TWO days. This contains all of your old profilers, characters, and whatnot. The ETA from the machine itself is about 17 hours from now. It will be up when it's done.
Of course, it could have more slowdowns or change its own iternal calculations, but that's what's up with it right now. There's nothing more we can do at this point--it's just restoring itself very, very slowly.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##

At least it's restoring!
That's the most positive news I've heard about the profiler in 2 weeks!
xD
Not sure what the database back-end runs on (platform), and it doesn't matter (no need to share), but in my experience with DB's (from DOS days all the way to SQL2k5 at least), many times in restoring a database it loses it's reference points that connect the relational DB's, which then need to be 'hard coded' on the back end so that relations within the DB play well together again. Especially if they are communicating on 2 different DB platforms or on off-site servers. At least that's the light-bulb that went on in my geeky peabrain when you guys posted the explanation about the server upgrade failure and having to manually move things to a new one, just to get the site back up and running. I'm not counting on seeing profiler information up and running 17 hours from your post, since data integrity will probably need to be checked first, and as you mentioned, there
could
be more slow-downs.
Infrastructure aside, it's apparent through your ongoing commitment to update that you guys are
really
working hard on this issue and we
highly appreciate
the updates! Thank you Ashelia and thanks wowhead Dev/I.T. team! :)
