Bliz isn't trying to be kind with the annual subsciption deal

I shall elaborate, as you seem to have a skewed view of my views:
I do not blindly support Blizzard
In fact, I am currently taking a break from WoW because there were some things that were done badly and made the game boring.
This directly contradicts: Folks such as your self can't comprehend others of us who enjoy the game but don't look upon WoW with a zombie like fascination.
I love how you were able to completely discern my opinion on WoW by one post.
Oh wait.
Moving on: Seriously though. Obviously they're using a business technique. The thing is, it's right on par with the rest of MoP, Blizzard is scrambling to save their ass because they know the seriously screwed the pooch.
This was my major problem. As seen by the poll, most people like MoP. However, you are taking your opinion (Blizzard has made serious mistakes with MoP) and are projecting it as an objective view, saying that Blizzard has, undoubtedly, screwed WoW up with MoP and will lose tons of subscribers, despite the fact that a large number of people on Wowhead have stated their support of the game.
Get what I mean?

Of course they are not trying to be kind. They're trying to make money.
That doesn't make it any less of a good deal for people who continue play WoW
and
who will play Diablo 3. As for it being a ploy to recover from apparent failures in Cataclysm? That can't be objectively analyzed, because at its core, WoW is a source of entertainment - and entertainment is always subjective. Some people were fine with Cataclysm for the most part (me included; my lack of enthusiasm for WoW recently has little to do with the game, and more to do with real-life interference).

It was the presentation that got me. To me, it seemed like you were presenting it as objective. If that is not the case, then I apologize for my misinterpretation.
Why delete the post? There was one I was replying to above me...

A good deal for me really, I played wow since it started even if I gone down some in time invested I still enjoy it and will play at least cata out. Will see how MoP plays out but will give it a go also.

You say 'of couse they are not trying to be kind' yet if you recall the annual sub deal was one of the first announcements at Blizcon and done in a way to suggest it was just a nice way fo Bliz rewarding all of its loyal wow customers. This was then followed by pretty much every site and blog covering Blizcon saying something along the lines of 'holy crap, free D3 for wow players plus an awesome new mount!'. So no, I don't agree with your 'of couse they are not being kind' reply as though it were a commonly accepted and well known fact from the time the deal was announced. Bliz did it in a way to make them seem extremely generous and rewarding by doing it and at a time when all the eyes of wowdom were upon them and also about to give new news and updates on D3. I just wanted to make it clear that this was just Bliz doing their best to lock in wow subs while possibly trying to come off as a generous parent to its children. There are alot of high profile games coming out soon and like someone already mentioned, Bliz is standing to make continual income off of D3 via the real money ah.
To say that this is "kind" would indicate that giving away coupons is "kind", and I don't agree with that. It's a business ploy to bring in money. To me, something "kind" is something fairly altruistic - doing something without gain for one's self. Case in point, Blizzard donating the money for the sales of the pet from the store to charity for a certain period -
that
was kind.
You seem to indicate that because of the way it was announced, that somehow makes it kind, and I disagree. A kind act remains kind even if no one in the world knows about it; giving a very common business practice (buy one of our products and you'll get this free! - which is exactly what this amounts to) isn't "kind", no matter the fanfare with which it was announced.
Again, I'm not arguing that it isn't a great deal, and that it might not be rewarding to a good portion of Blizzard's customers and current WoW subscribers, but in my book, that's far different from being "kind".

Personally, I say I will stop subscribing every month, but I never do.
Now I have incentive to change from paying 14.99 a month every month to 12.99 per month every 6 months. There's also the free mount and the ability to play Diablo 3 thrown in as well so it was a win-win for me anyway. I'm sure for many people they probably already plan on continuing so these extra perks are just another reason for them to continue doing so.

I'm not sure what exactly you are arguing right here. I am already taking the stance that Bliz isn't or wasn't being kind with the sub deal, but rather giving the appearance of kindness due to the way the deal was presented, while you are agreeing with me yet acting like I am taking a stance which contradicts my own op. If you are saying that its impossible for what Bliz did to be interpreted as kindness due to it not being altruistic enough, ok. That doesn't mean that everyone else will share your view of what I am talking about though which was demonstrated by alot of the reactions the deal received here and elsewhere. That's like saying 'its obvious to anyone with a brain that Hitler was a crazy madman' yet at the same time he was giving speeches in front of something like a million rabid Germans who were cheering everything he said as though he were a messiah. See what I am saying?
I guess I lost track of your stance throughout the thread. My apologies, we actually seem to have mostly the same stance on the issue.
The question is, is it Berserker Stance or just Battle Stance? Hmm....

Yes, it's a ploy to lock people in for 12 months, the same as mobile companies do.
Mainly points to two things in my head...
The next quarterly subscriber report wasn't shaping up as well as they'd like.
and/or
There is not going to be a lot of content in the next 12 months. (Probably just 4.3) To help slow the "We've been doing the same thing for far too long" dropoff seen at the end of WotLK.
If you're planning on staying for the next year, and getting diablo, it's a good deal for you, if you're not, it's not, simple as that. (I cbb doing the math for how long you'd have to stay for it to be good for you)
I just can't help but think that they've done it a little late for it to have the effect the marketing people are hoping for.

I wonder the reason why they want to get people to have people sign up for an annual sub is to make their depleating player base stop hemmoraging subs. It also makes me wonder if D3 is going to suck because when to do companies give anything away for free. It usually means they might not be as high on D3 as people originally thought.
Except.....the price of D3 is in the sub.
