Obviously a PvP server player. Spending my whole WoW time on one...I do understand where he is coming from. The specter of Horde vs Alliance being played out all over the WoW landscape does add a dimension(fun in my view) that I would sorely miss on a PvE server.
I remember when I started, how annoyed I would get when I would get ganked/camped. Then it just dawned on me that this is what they were supposed to be doing. I was alliance, they were horde.
Once I grasped that part, I found myself not getting annoyed anymore. I still remember the first slug fest I witnessed during my original toons run through SV. Some level 70 Tauren horde was standing at the entrance ganking anything that moved. My family member and I sat in ghost form on the side eating imaginary popcorn while 70's were called in to take him on. It was just funny how he took them out one at a time in between his dance moves. Finally we all agreed to rez at the same time and peeled the fur off his back. It's these little things that are truly missing now from the game.
I think what the OP is trying to say is everything seems to have a single minded intent of reaching max level/raiding.
It seems the WoW world has been compacted down to either city squatting in SW/Org or being inside a dungeon/raid. I don't blame the player per se, it's just the WoW they have been introduced too. When I talked to newer guild members about the great SS world PvP battles that I/my guild enjoyed during their hey days...I get a sense of longing to have been there from them. Oh well it is what it is now, unfortunately.
PS. @ OP
I do remember going all out to gank any DK I saw with my main when they first came out :P
I hated how they came into the 50-59 bracket BG's fully decked out in blue TBC gear, "loling" the likes of us still wearing Vanilla gear as we were deathgripped like yo-yo's from one to another.

It seems that most of what you found fun, OP, most other people don't. So, you don't enjoy the changes, but most other people do. That's just the way games evolve. I quit the WOW TCG because I didn't like a lot of things that were happening with it, whereas lots of others did like them and are still playing.
BTW: Point of grammar:
You're not talking about 'why' it's been gelded, you're talking about the ways in which it has been gelded. So your title should have been '3 ways in which World of Warcraft has been gelded'. If you say 'why' you'd have to explain the reasons behind Blizz making the changes they made.
/crawls back under rock
Cheers.

Fact: The only thing hard about vanilla was getting 40 people together to raid.
THAT'S RIGHT I SAID IT.

The only thing hard about vanilla was logging in.
... because the servers crashed a lot. Or were full. Or the login server was down. Or... well, you get the point.

My grandfather !@#$%es alot about how the movies used to cost a quarter, or how he used to walk 15 miles in the snow, up hill, both ways, in barefeet just to get a gallon of milk.
Funny enough? In the winter I do that here, but it is only a mile... and I have shoes on....

Yeah, its "another one of those" posts. Not that I don't agree, because I do.
What I don't see is anyone making any reasonable posts as to why WoW is better now than it was then. The only responses I ever see to these posts are"
"Rose colored glasses"
"Vanilla sucked"
"Only thing hard about Vanilla was getting 40 players in a raid"
"Servers sucked back then"
Us "rose colored glasses" guys can offer reason after reason why we liked it better in the past, what has been changed / eliminated that we miss, and offer example after example of whats wrong with the current system.
Yet I never see the same type of response from the opposing side. The lousy "fanboy" responses that always seem to follow are no better than a veteran player just posting "Cata SUCKS!" and leaving it at that.
