The Problem:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/3665632/Sneak_Peek_Guardian_Cub_Tradable_Pet-10_10_2011
I don't want to get into argument over how much or how little it will effect the game. The bottom line is making it boe simply creates an indirect route for Blizzard to essentially sell gold to their players. It's pretty despicable.
The problem with WoWers is they know one or two cancels wont send a message. And it seems nobody has done this in mass. Blizzard doesn't care about your opinion, they care about their wallet. However the opinions of a few thousand hitting the cancel button might make them rethink these types of things.
What I'm proposing is a time and date we can agree upon for canceling in mass. I've chosen October 30 7:00 pm
I need every WoWer interested to spread this site and get numbers. With enough numbers I believe this can be pulled. It's the only way to combat corporate greed.
Do it quickly as this will get banned fast.
Otherwise troll it down.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

If you can't afford WoW, don't play it. Try to get more hours at work.
Don't buy the cub then?...
Plus it isn't like Blizzard is raising the cost of a subscription, like Netflix did.

The correlation between this and the Netflix thing aren't even close.

Yes.... A pet that adds no gold into the economy is clearly ruining the economy by adding gold into it! And you clearly have to buy these things to get any gold at all!

I'd like to add to that that only now is it possible to buy gold with real-world currency. No one had ever come up with a way to do that before now.

It’s potentially worth noting that no new gold is being introduced into the game's economy with those mounts or the new Guardian Cub pet.
Our goal with the Guardian Cub is to provide alternative ways for players who don't want to spend real money to add these pets to their collection. Even though this has been available a while now with the TCG mounts, this is obviously a new kind of way to deliver Pet Store pets, and we're definitely interested to hear your feedback and ultimately see how this will play out.
That is all.

I'm not locking this thread because users have repeatedly expressed a desire to allow differing viewpoints and even 'debate' threads in WoW General.
I did, however, remove the Wallstreet references. They're unrelated and completely off-topic. (I also nuked the posts calling the OP an idiot--personal attacks suck.)(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##

EVE Online sells game time cards as tradeable in-game items and has been functioning perfectly fine with an economy immensely more complicated than WoWs for several years now. It's about time WoW got on the ball, this is by far the best method to combat third party RMT.

OP is an idio- wait what?
Lol no, but think about it, who's really going to quit WoW over a pet and buying BoE weapons was already a 'motive to buy gold' as you call it.
Besides, the majority of WoW players won't really care, because the majority of WoW players don't collect pets to the extent where they want all of them. Just look at the Celestial Steed, not that many people bought it.

Actually, I think quite a number of people purchased it...even when compared to the total subscriber numbers.

I must say I dislike the use of the word "scam" in the title. A scam would be if Blizz told 11 million people "Hey come buy this awesome minipet for $10, you can even give em to your friends!" and people shell out for 4 million of the lil devils...and never get the pet and when people go to say "hey where's my pet!" there's no Blizzard anymore they've jumped ship with the cash.
Ripoff? yea, maybe.
Scam? No.

You can't bugger an economy by not introducing gold. If Blizz was actively putting gold into the economy, yes it would !@#$ things up. But it's only distributing the existing gold differently, as well as taking an AH cut for any of them that get sold that way. So it will actually help REMOVE some of the gold for people that don't want to troll trade(as in sit in trade waiting, not irritate people) and are willing to take the AH cut. The reason RMT gold hurts the economy is because they mass produce it, hold onto it, and it gets introduced into the economy in huge surges.
Of course then someone will attack with "They don't get the gold themselves!" And in answer, mass produce involves: Them compromising accounts and taking the gold, them buying the gold for a premium from people that are considered "affiliates" to the RMT sites, or any other way they may go about acquiring the gold.
TL;DR - In other words, it will not inflate or deflate the in game economy. It will just relocate the gold, which has no impact on the world. And it is something I intend to make use of, personally.

This completely. Its the same as people getting the Argent pets and selling those. But what they did was instead of spending hours grinding rep for a faction, people are spending those hours at a job to buy the pet. The next part is still the same, they sell the pet to the others on their realm for a price.
The question is how much gold would you consider to be the same for $10? Can you make that amount of gold in the amount of time it takes to make that money at a job? If you can make more gold in less time to make $10, then its better to spend that gold on the pet. If it is the opposite then it might be better to buy the pet and either use it or sell it for gold.
I was making $9.40/hour. Meaning that would take me 1.06 hours to make the money to buy the pet. Depending on how much it cost on my realm, and if it was going for a lot which it is possible, it may be better for me to just buy the pet and sell it as I doubt I can make that much gold in a little over an hour.
This is just how I see it and, like deathbeyond, it may be a good way to make some quick gold if you got some irl money you're not spending.
