Little brother failing classes (4 F's, D and a B), my grandmother takes his phone, and prevents him from all internet access what-so-ever, except his Itouch, which he used to get the next piece of information. He calls this an invasion of privacy through "California Penal Code: Part 1, Title 15, Chapter 1.5." I highly doubt it can be classified as such because my grandmother pays for his phone and as long as she doesn't read text messages and whatnot. He's threatening to call the "authorities" (/facepalm) and he's just being an overall downer.. (He's only 15..)
I just need some advice to outsmart him because google.com isn't my best friend right now trying to search up this stuff.

I'm fifteen D:
I think he might be talking about
this?
Every person not a party to a telegraphic or telephonic communication who willfully discloses the contents of a telegraphic or telephonic message, or any part thereof, addressed to another person, without the permission of such person, unless directed so to do by the lawful order of a court, is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, or in the county jail not exceeding one year, or by fine not exceeding five thousand dollars ($5,000), or by both fine and imprisonment.
So as long as she isn't reading or telling anyone else the contents of his texts (I'm not even sure if it applies to minors) he's just spouting crap. If your granny pays for it she pretty much has the right to do with it as she pleases.

Not to pry, but how does the grandmother fit in with respect to the parents? The lack of a father figure is a very big cause of problems like that in boys. Maybe some sort of
Big Brother
might help.

Does grandma pay for his phone? If so, tell him tough crap and get to work on school stuff.
If not, well....it's Grandma's house, so see the first part.

yell at right him and intimidate. show him who is the real boss. if he stands up to you, you stand up to him. if he wants to fight, you bear hug him until he recomposes himself. yep, brothers. a few hours later when he's calm, tell him to kiss a$$ until he's 18, then he can go out to the world and be a man.

I read that differently than it was supposed to be.

Oh, nothing gross. It just sounded incredibly Orwellian.
Everyone needs some Big Brother in their life!

On a purely selfish note: If your brother called the 'authorities' and the 'authorities' told him to 'get bent,' I would thoroughly enjoy it.

You know im curious if he is invoking that then maybe that's a hint he is hiding something on his phone?
But yeah just tell him to suck it up and do his work.

Hmmm... I'd move to Oregon, spank his butt, and make him build fences out in the fields all day until he earns the right to talk. Once he earns the right to talk, maybe he could ask permission to use the land line phone, which I would quickly deny and make him clean house and bring me iced tea. If he refuses, I spank his butt some more, and he loses electricity and hot food... Canned pork and beans until he shapes up.

I tell you what.. kids these days... stinking more cell phones, ipads, and nano thingamawhiz gadgets than they deserve... haven't worked a day in their lives... not doing school work... and threatening to sick the cops on granny.
Here's what you should do, if you really plan on outsmarting him: call the cops. They'll come out and tell him that granny can do that if she wants, and then they will leave. Take all the wind out of his threats.
What he NEEDS is a whupin.

Back in the day, applying a palm to either of his cheeks one or more times would be a perfect way to calm him down.
Basically I absolutely agree with MyTie.

I honestly don't know what to say in this situation.
I'm all in favour of talking, but he sounds past the edge of caring. You might need to stage a sort of MyTie intervention, or just sit down and talk with him about what he plans to do for the rest of his life. Maybe show him the Zimbardo
lecture on time
if he'll sit down for the duration. Or perhaps if you have the time yourself and you do some schoolwork, sit down with him and do schoolwork and answer questions, or if not, just read or something. Then let him get phone privileges as a reward. If you can build that up to an hour a day it might have an effect.
Or maybe contact the school to find out what he needs to do to bring his grades up, there might be a possibility he's so far behind he doesn't actually know what he needs to do and thus feels anxious every time he tries to start a project. Oh and keep a close watch on his mental state. People have done drastic things after their iPods were taken.

I don't always agree with you, MyTie, but you said this very well. I agree - this, OP, is what I think would work best. Unless a father-figure could talk some sense into him, of course, which might be preferrable.

Your brother is an &*!@#$% and needs a good ass kicking, to go as low as trying to call the police on your grandma for taking his precious phone away. All the while it being his fault it happened. My sister is 15 and its amazing how easy school seems to be these days for these kids, most are just lazy and are too distracted by their little tech gadgets to even care, a good majority of them need some sense knocked into them and be told they arent a unique snowflake and need to shape up. I remember when I was in high school (99-02) cell phones were hardly ever seen except by teachers, and if a kid had one its not like they could do anything with them, was pretty much a pager (do you kids even know what a pager is? lol) screen on a smaller brick phone like the ones from the 80s, aka Zach Morris phone.
