So i have finally made it to lvl 85 on my main woot woot :)
Tonight I did my first lvl 85 dungeon and have been collecting justice points, which I believe you use to purchase awesome gear with. My question to you though is this, now that we are at the higest lvl possible.. Why is awesome gear still critical? I mean yes we are raiding/dg'ing but by lvl 85 isn't your gear specs of the higest quality anyways?
Little confused
You spec might be the highest quality, and you may know you class inside and out as well as to how a fight is, but that alone won't let you down some of the content.
Some content just requires more stats on gear to complete. If you tried to do Firelands in the 346 heroic dungeon gear I doubt you could get as far as if you had the 359+ gear from the previous tier. The better stats on gear allows for more damage and healing output which helps beat enrage timers and other fight mechanics, such as additional adds.

I've been leveling an enhance Shaman. I removed all the heirloom pieces at 80 because I really want to enjoy the last 5 levels and zones. It's during this final phase that everything I've been learning about this class is coming together. I've quested for all the gear to make my toon a viable dungeon runner. Truthfully I have been lamenting these final days because I really do enjoy leveling and all the other stuff that goes with it, like profession leveling and scouring the websites for class info, but I am looking forward to seeing what I can do going up against the boss fights.
This is the whole point of leveling. To add a viable toon to your server community. To engage in endgame contents. Yes there is a certain repetitiveness to it and most of the gear progression is based on dealing with a lot of failure.
But that shouldn't prevent you from working with other players to test the limits of what you have learned.
I know it this day and age of WoW, where pugging and long ques have become the theme and can test a player's sanity, but you just have to try and be a good sport about. It's the only way to improve things in this game.
We already have an abundance of numnuts and short fuses, please don't add to that.
Try to be a part of a good guild if you can and help it to progress. Sharing accolades with familiar players has a greater feeling of reward then you will ever get from living the toon life of a pugger.
As a GM for 3 years I impressed this among my guild members and in worked.
So whatever you do, just remember what you give in this game is what you get back.
Good luck to you.

No, the game begins at level one. Whether or not you enjoy it before 85 is a different matter.

One of the real problems with the leveling process is that it is so easy. I like leveling up because it is fun to get new abilities and new talents. The problem is that Blizzard has made leveling mind-numbing easy... it is basically just story-mode.
Here, we are going to give you Savage, an ability that allows you to do massive damage if stealthed and behind a target.... the problem is, just running up to a target and mangling will still kill them really fast and requires no stealthing or positioning requirements.
Nothing lives for more than 10 seconds, so anything that requires prep, or dots is just a waste compared to using your easy-button main attack.

This is the whole point of leveling. To add a viable toon to your server community. To engage in endgame contents.
That is not true for everyone. That is 100% personal preference.
For me, leveling is for the fun of questing, seeing new areas, and learning about how a different class works. It has nothing to do with adding a viable toon to my server community or engaging in endgame content. I may, or may not, raid on the toon.
Fair enough ..but the game is designed for end game contents or PvP at level 85.
If you choose to level a toon to 85 like the OP has just about done and decide not to continue with gear progression then that is your prerogative...but I was addressing the OP since he was asking what to expect and in some ways what is expected of him if he does decide to engage in end game.
He could also take a path you mentioned and fold it up and go back to rolling another level 1 toon.
I am at opposite end of your personal view though.
To me...playing this game means having a consideration for the guy next to you. That's what I mean by viable. Having a toon that is ready for dungeons/raids. If choosing to PvP...being properly equipped and understanding the strategy to succeed. Not being an ass personally.
I'm not going to assume you are not doing these things as well...but I gather you don't feel like you owe it to anyone.
I personally feel like I should.
I can't beef about what's going on around me as far as poor que runs, the poor attitude of the community at large and stuff like that, if I don't take up the banner myself.
If I got your view wrong...my apology.

Lonewarrior: This game can be played any way anybody wants. They put end game features in for people who like to (mostly) play a single toon and get serious about gear progression and raiding. They have lots of other stuff in the game for those that don't want to do that. There is no right or wrong way to play, only different ways.
Cheers.

But your addressing me..I was addressing to OP. He did ask for some views didn't he?
Tell it to him.

No. WoW pretty much drops dead the second you hit 85. The stark contrast of "Welcome to Failureclysm, there's nothing left for you to do, you baddie." really shines once you ding 85.
What?
You have daily quests, reps to grind, gear to get, PvP to do, achievements to get. There's a lot to do at 85.

Thanks guys for all your advice and helpful hints, you have made it clear to me as to what i have to look forward to and what to expect as a lvl 85, which is fantasitc. I do believe it is up to the player in terms of deciding which avenue to take when completely lvl'd as everybody has their own unique play style and individual prefrence.
I am looking forward to the raids and dungeons, however am a bit nervous as people do tend to take the game quite seriously and are not affraid to voice thier opions whether it be in a kind constructive way or just plain bold and insensitive. In any respect when gaming I treat fellow wowers with the same respect and courtesy as I would like to be treated no matter how novice or experienced I am.
Just FYI Loneworrior :) I am female lol
If I may be so bold. Just use my guide and start gearing up with Regular dungeons and Molten front Dailes. Then step into Heroics and get ready for Raiding once you've upgraded your gear. This will prevent some of the worst Dungeon and Raid abuses.
Cheers.
