My brother uses Apple a lot (video editing and film).
I do think it is a tragic loss of a man that did a lot for technology.

their products are effiecent and beautiful
their "we won't have any kind of compatibility with non-apple stuff even if the worlds fate depend on it" and "sell some of the parts that should be standart as extras" policies are annoying to say the least
i don't know if steve jobs was behind that, but if he was he shouldn't be remembered as a big tech guy
rest in peace mr steve jobs

To quote what I posted on Facebook earlier:
Today, the CEO of a global company passed away. As you reflect on his creativity and leadership, spare a thought for those in the factories who have died before him to make a man's dream reality.

RIP Steve Jobs. I was actually sort of surprised by this; I knew he had cancer, but I had no idea that he was that close to death.

I feel sorry for him, but at the same time I'm not too torn, callous as that may sound.

Does this mean I can finally have Flash on my IPhone?

RIP Steve Jobs. I never really knew you, or purchased Apple products, but I do respect the role you played in being an influence on the world (of computers/technology)

Shame to see such an innovator and technological genius pass away. He completely revolutionized the music industry and managed to create a consumer base in products that nobody else could have gotten to take off. Kudos to him.

everyone having an mp3 player and i-tunes store was the last nail in the coffin for record stores who were already suffering from piracy
they completely changed the music industry but they didn't "revolutionize" it

Well, it's presumably hours since his death so it seems a little callous. Not to mention that he'd retired, so any decisions of his that were continued probably won't exactly be immediately reversed: if anything, they're more likely to become entrenched out of respect.
I don't own any Apple products - not that I support Microsoft over them (as the false dichotomy usually goes). I used Ubuntu for a while but I wasn't proficient enough to actually do anything worthwhile on it. I couldn't even access sound and had to use another PC to look up scripts to change the kernel to even get compatibility with a wireless USB device. But I recognise this isn't the place to vent frustration with technology really. Or Microsoft, even though he contributed to their earlier products.
