Everyone is different.
Assumption is not a good way in finding out stuff about people.
Sure everyone is different. That doesn't make it any less surprising that it's actually possible to live in today's news-saturated climate and not know who someone like Steve Jobs is.

That's not completely true; I had honestly never heard of Jobs, till a book series I read in high school had a character that was named after him(book was 20 minutes in the future).

I had never heard of March Madness or the NCAA until this year.

Apple has been a driving force in the IT world for 30 years. It's kind of sad that this generation can't see beyond iPods and Safari. I am glad he was the genius he was, and I think those who continue to work in the field have very big shoes to fill.
This. It's funny, I dislike his products for their eccentricities (no external frameworks? really?) but I think the world of computing would be a far different place than it is today without his influence. People need to remember that Apple started off as two guys in a basement who eventually took on IBM. I honestly believe, looking at how the IT market has changed over the last 30 years, that without Steve Jobs, PC's would have remained as Workstations and most of the computer based technology the common person takes for granted wouldn't exist. You might not like some of what he did, but he had a huge influence on everything around him.
Still tho, he took the idea of "my way or the highway" to whole new levels.
He had good influence, but to say a lot of things we use today (mp3 players, smart phones) wouldnt even exist or the PC remaining a workstation and not something we use at homes, well thats just silly. He made tablets a huge craze I'll give him that. Theres plenty of older technology from the mid-late 90s that show we would still have what we do today, just without the overpriced products that are Apple. One thing you could argue though, is digital music might not be right where it is without him, he changed that around with iTunes pretty good.

Thats not a really big deal, you either have no interest in sports or never went to college.

I disagree. Jobs wasn't even around at Apple when the laptop craze started kicking off in the mid '90s. Asus did more to move away from the workstation structure by introducing the EeePC and better laptop design. He did help to pioneer the mouse, in order to move away from the horrid trackballs of the past, but I think keyboard design would have fallen naturally into where it is with or without his influence.
One thing Apple and Jobs did do was make smartphones sexy. There, Apple did what Sony, HP and Palm had been trying to do for a decade and failed at.

Get out from the rocks you have to be living under. You must be in very small, unique niches not to
have even heard
about Steve Jobs and March Madness. That's really baffling

I think LG had already done quite a bit of legwork towards that and the "Google Phone" was in the works at around the same time.
