. . .but is the only way for a warrior to go tank?
If that is what you meant, then the answer is no. The is absolutely no reason for a warrior to go Protection unless they are a) near max level (which would be 60 for classic game & 70 for current expansion, apply as necessary), or b) curious about how it works. Option 'b' works better when one has enough talent points to effectively learn the build.
Now, to answer the other question...
. . .it seems that nobody wants to have a dps warrior in a instance and i was wondering why that is?
The plain & simple truth is that warriors have little else to bring to the table in terms of Crowd Control. We do have a few, less than elegant, forms of CC as Fury warriors, but our true calling is supportive DPS. What I mean by this is that we are utilitarian -- we house utility along with our DPS. Utility that, when used in conjunction with a tank or fellow melee, can help decrease incoming damage or increase outgoing DPS (as well as increasing a group's health).

Excellent points, icedtc.
I would just like to bring up the fact that in order to get the non-raid DPS gear, one has to go Protection. In order to get the best non-raid tanking gear, one has to go Protection.
I went full Protection & focused on that for a long time on my first warrior. When I realized that I wanted to go MS (or back to Fury sometimes), I noticed that I had no gear. So I began tanking for two styles of gear at the same time, and if you can support it financially...it's better to stay with one warrior.
-----
If you have a ton of time & want to get rich along the way, raise a second warrior for tanking in the long haul. Sure, it doesn't sound like leveling can make you rich, but after level 30-40 it becomes a definite reality for the thrifty player.
-----
In short, the best advice I can give if you choose to pursue two warriors is to always,
always
make sure you have more money
incoming
than outgoing. This may sound obvious, but apparently it is a huge economic problem in certain parts of the world. Before someone rips me apart, saying that it is a game:
well, duh!
Why should you spend all your time farming because you mismanaged your money?

maybe i should just do some dps with my warrior and if people dont like it i'll have to find another group.
Sounds just fine! I, too, once had a 45 warrior & only tanked when I wanted some fun (which meant doing Zul'farrak literally 30 times throughout 3-6 months). Just hop on, in Gadgetzan, "LFM ZF - Got tank, Need healer!" Good to go!
. . .my 68 is mainly
arms and a little furry,
probably not the best way to go at all. . .
I know, right? I have that same problem. It's really freaking me out...

Icedtc, I recommend listening to the new & upcoming podcasts from TankSpot. Here's the link (I can't wait to hear it myself):

Also, while it is awesome cash for questing at 70, it's possible to make easy money way before even 60. By managing your incoming & outgoing funds, it is very realistic to expect at least 10-40g per level after 40. It starts out small, but as you level up the gross income only gets better on the path to 60. Unfortunately, it can be hard to do this for new players (or irresponsible ones).
It's not hard to believe the level of accepted irresponsibility & justification for "just a gold" scenarios when looking at the current housing market in the U.S. Everyone fell for the quick fix, and are now paying for it. Two entirely different markets, but one identical flaw.

Max Damage Shield Slam - 21/5/35
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=LA0IzhboZVZMEtoh0zfxk
Contrary to what Quab said, if one is geared enough (at least 300 SBV to my estimate, with a goal of 500+), then this spec becomes quite potent in both PVP & for PVE tanking.
I wouldn't raid with it, but it is the most plausible PVP & PVE hybrid spec available to warriors. You can tank Heroics with this spec, but only if geared appropriately. It is not exactly for beginners, so you may or may not have some questions about it.
Now, the days of 31/5/15 builds from the classic game are over. Players usually either go 17/44 Fury or they go MS/Slam (more technical style, for raids) for off tanking. However, there is a Fury/Protection hybrid build which excels at tanking & still maintains moderate success in other areas.

While leveling, or doing normal dungeons (e.g. Not Heroics or raids), one of two things will happen to force a "double-Taunt" as I call it.
DPS (sometimes 'bad' healers) will pull aggro from the tank
The tank will not generate enough aggro to prevent DPS from pulling aggro
There's a relationship between the two. The bottom line? Players should know by all class abilities, and practice good judgement, about how much threat is being generated.
What happens is the tank is starting to work on a creature, when Mr. Fancypants comes up & Super-Mega-Holy-Aimed-Frost-Explode the same creature. Needless to say, the tank has to regain aggro quickly to prevent Mr. Fancypants from dying. Taunt. A few seconds later, their super-awesome friend, Mr. Smartypants, comes over & Chain-Shock-Pyro-Poop-Flings a huge chunk of mana at the same creature, pulling aggro from the tank for a second time, within 10 seconds. It's not uncommon with inexperienced or solo players.
It is generally recommended the tank stays out of the way when Super-Pyro-Poop is flung at creatures...it could get messy & let AntsyPants just handle it. I can guarantee you they will either leave or learn their lesson, =)
I hope this was a colourful illustration.
