Org and Stormwind are the new Lagarans.Old Lagarans, since they were like that before Shatt ever came out.
Not really. You could do anything in one major city you could do in the others, so I could just as easily go to Undercity and avoid lag. Dalaran really clumped everyone right together, and you
had
to go there. Same with Org. I found on the Alliance servers I played people actually preferred IF to Stormwind.
You can't get to Deepholm from Undercity.

From questing to raiding to choosing the city you want to 'rest' in, you are not given much to choose from
Um, what? You can choose any city you want: You want your hearth to be in Undercity/Darnassus? Go for it; just take the Blasted Lands portal, walk through the Dark Portal, then take the Stormwind/Orgrimmar Portals to the left and right to get back quickly.

Boats, zeppelins, guild perk to give your hearth a 15 min cooldown, and of course, capes that teleport you directly to Stormwind/Orgrimmar from guild rep; lots of ways to get around, and you are still free to set your hearth wherever your heart desires.

I prefer it like this in all honesty; players got really lazy in Wrath, and you saw it in BC days too: Oh noes, you have to take 5 mins out of your busy schedule to actually walk somewhere! *gasp*
Still can't believe that QQ'ing that went up over the other city portals being removed from Dalaran and Shattrah; as those areas weren't current anymore. I enjoy hanging out in Dalaran now, as I don't lag like hell from all the people just standing around doing nothing. At least in Stormwind and Orgrimmar you can find a nice out of the way spot to stand around, and you have options for hearth spots. And of course, this is the same problem anyways, even when Dalaran had portals to all the capitol cities: You blew your hearth, you'd be flying back to the city in the sky.

They should not have put portals in Org/SW in the 1st place, then people won't QQ(that much)
They choose those two cities as the central ones for the expansion, same as Shatt was it for BC, and Dalaran for Wrath. I've never seen it as a big problem, but that may be because I've never relied on the portals all that much. And the only portals that they have that no where else does is for the new Cata zones; but really, other then Deepholme, you can reach all the other ones from Azeroth, but people are lazy and QQ about everything.

Actually, Dalaran has more people in it regularly than Tol Barad! That is sad seeing as TB was supposed to be the new Wintergrasp. I have had 4 on 4 TB battles, and even when it is a large scale battle (Tuesday night prime time) everyone disappears within 2 minutes of the battle ending.
I have made tons of gold mining that little chunk of land uncontested, and running unbothered dailies, but I miss the world PvP. I used to gank people while they fought Problim, or while they decided to go after a handful of NPC's doing dailies, but now I am usually alone no matter which faction wins.

I can't find the sauce. But I remember a Blizz rep making mention that they where not happy that the other cities wherew abndoned.
To be fair. I love the traveling to zones as well. But when I just want to relax and AFK, I don't want to feel forced to use SW/Org. Of course I'm technically not, but everything that an end game raider needs is based in these two cities.
A good way to keep it simple would be too add the portals to the new quest hubs in each city, then remove those portals that are considered 'close' to those areas. (Remove the hyjai portal from darnassus and Org, vashji portal from SW)
IMO, this would be a start in making the cities be a bit more active.

I miss Dalaran of the vanilla skies. I'm ok with Shattrath being abandoned, it looks a bit like Angkor Wat. But Dalaran is a masterpiece. A masterpiece ghost town :'(.
I offered to buy Dalaran as my personal flying mount, but my proposal got rejected by the game developers.

There are actually a few choices of where to Hearth in Dal, just FYI.
And on my server, I can't find a spot in Org that doesn't lag like crazy from 50+ people in the same spot.
My hearth is set to Brill...

the thing is bro' what if I dont WANT to be in orgrimmar? U been there lately? place looks like a cheap ripoff from hellfire citadel. I'd rather have Silvermoon as my main base of operations, but then the lack of portals there make it unpractical.
Tol Barad can't be reached physically, you NEED to be in org or SW to reach it. Likewise Deepholm cant be reached physically.
I'm willing to agree that having 1 neutral city, with portals to all the major capitals would encourage laziness, to the point that the mere concept of waiting 5min for a zeppelin was sheer horror to some people. But if you are gonna address a problem, you either remove it, or fix it entirely.
They got rid of portals to all major capitals? great, good riddance, but why then add portals to the cata-zones to just 1 CITY per faction? they should add added them either to no city, or all cities. But only 1 per faction would bring the same problems than shat or dal did. Players cluttering in just 1 place.
at least 1 problem was fixed with this partial solution. In dal, the lag was so intense due to TONS of players from both factions hanging there. Now, you only have to deal with idle players for your faction exclusively, but its still an awful lot of people.

How bad does a computer have to be to get lag in any of the cities?
Spoken like someone who's never had to deal with a mediocre computer.

And for most of the expansion, my hearth was in the sewers...and if I left the sewers, hello lag storm, since I didn't have my current computer at that point.

Rank, I did say that you can't get to Deepholme physically but yes, I had forgot TB.
