There are hints from that tinfoil hat thing that they are completely under the control of an old god under tirisfal which is why they are that way anyway.....Tin Foil Hat = Wild Mass Guessing though, always have to remember that.

The issue is: why should I have to pretend that my Forsaken is some hero, when I could be actually doing that with a well-designed questing experience wrapped around a story that doesn't make my chosen race out to be genocidal monsters?
Double post, but I think its worth it. While I did say that the questing experience is horrible for roleplay since you have no choice:
here's a welcome exception
.
Well......yes and no; since the 'right' thing is also killing the human seedlings in addition to digging them up....but you do get the best buff ever for it.

The fact that the Alliance is under the leadership of Varian Wrynn always struck me as silly. Velen, Malfurion and Tyrande have literally eons of leadership and military experience. The fact that they would confer anything to Varian is preposterous to me.
Military Leadership of the Alliance only which makes sense since he was trained for warfare by a wide variety of people; and of those three, Mal was only recently woken up as he was trapped in the Nightmare, Tyrande was in a quiet war with Fandral, and Velen had other things to deal with...plus, you know, he's part of a race that looks freakly like the massive demon who had just blew up Dalaran and Mt Hyjal, as well as just showing up after a ship crashed into the planet.

Indeed, though it does make a lot of sense. I'm just wondering if this is the story blizzard is planning on going with, I really hope they don't end cataclysm with things the way they are now though.
Probably not...since the writers at WoWInsider came up with that article, not Blizzard itself.

Well, today is just about over, tommorow, the book is released :D. I can't wait to read about varian wrynn becoming the high king of the alliance.
*Salutes Varian Wrynn*.
Yeah.....really don't see that happening...at all; since doing that would mean the entire Alliance would just go to hell, as it's never had a true unified leader.

He is becoming high king of the alliance, according to metzen, which is
supposed to happen in the wolfheart novel supposedly
, I don't see the problem personally. The alliance seriously needs unification right now, and the best solution is a high king, who rules the entire alliance. Metzen already said at comic con this year that varian is being made into the "high king of the alliance" for the sake of unification.
Varian is already doing more for the night elves than tyrande, by actually sending players to aid the night elves in ashenvale, where as tyrande has sat on her rear end since vanilla and done jack squat. Even now in cataclysm, with the horde tearing up ashenvale, she does nothing, while varian sends alliance adventurers to help.
Bolded part, and you don't know for certain: Since there would be a riot among the Gnomes, the Night Elves would leave enmass, the Draenei would laugh and turn their backs, Genn would sooner die then hand over his people to another, and the Dwarves just went through all that trouble to form the Council of the Three Hammers: I really severely doubt that Varian is going to be the 'high king' of the Alliance which has never existed in the history of Azeroth before.

And where did you see that? As it's not mentioned anywhere in that link you just posted.
Edit: And I've never heard him say anywhere he plans to make Varian the Warchief of the Alliance.
