Aimed shot in PvE worthless?

I remember way back in the old days Aimed shot was amazing because as soon as it was finished casting an autoshot attack came right after and when both the aimed shot and the auto attack critted it made for quite a big chunk of damage. Now that there is a 0.5 second delay between the end of an aimed shot and the start of the next autoattack it really does seem pointless with the painfully long cast time.
Other then what has already been pointed out I use it on Curator as I can time it to land right when the Evocate starts, its nice to see a 10-12k crit :P

The way I see it, Aimed shot is an opener, its to let the tank (or pet) gain aggro. The only other situation when it becomes useful is when you have Rapid Killing (+20/40% damage on ONE auto/arcane/aimed shot) or other times you do extra damage (and times mbos like curator take extra damage).
Honestly its not useful for any rotation and you can have better options but, it's a great situational ability.

Parts of my brain have just shut down from reading some of the responses here, please could you people get a clue and do some research on your class before opening your mouth and spewing out this crap? Let me lay it down for you:
All three specs are similar in dps
depending
on your gear - subject to different scaling at different gear levels.
If you are BM you will get more damage from autoshot/steadyshot rotation than anything else, unless you have a mega slow bow and awesome latency you probably won't be able to fit arcane shot and multi shot without clipping your auto shot.
Auto shot is your highest damage ability over time and has infinite mana efficiency.

and you will be enlightened, there are pretty graphs and mathematical proof.
Aimed shot used to be good before Burning crusade and then they changed it so that your auto shot timer doesn't go while aimed shot is being cast, hence you don't get an instant auto shot when aimed shot finishes. also the cast time went from 3 to 3.5
