And I make it a point not to read reviews before buying a game. They all either praise a game as godly, or shun it as an unplayable mess. I've never seen a review just call a game "okay" or "good."
this is true, and I admit I'm guilty of it, I'm a HUGE fan of the Deus Ex franchise, and believe this game to be pure awesomeness, but not everyone shares my opinion, thus those that didn't liked the game, will call it the second "duke nukem forever"
This is why I DO read game reviews before trying them, but I make it a point to read both the favorable reviews, and the unfavorable ones as well.
Coooover baaaseeeed yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwnnnnnnnnnn *whew* first person shooter.
shooting stuff is only 1 aspect of this game, the roleplaying elements are FAR richer than what you can find in most other RPGs in the market.
also I STILL dont have this game T_T and its killing me. I gotta wait till next saturday till its here :S
I've replayed the beta
7 TIMES
and I wanna know what happens next T_T (The beta contains about 1/4 of the game, it ends after the fight with the first boss Barret)

It helps to spell/use correct grammar, but I liked the review, especially consider I also write up walls of text to review video games.
well bro' take in consideration that english isn't my main language :P I did used Microsoft Word to polish it up as much as I could but I'm aware there are some grammar mistakes here and there :S learning a language is something that never truly ends.

I'll admit, I could have gotten into it just for the roleplay aspect. The only problem was the gameplay irked me to no end. I tried speccing so I coud rambo... and nothing. This guy is made of paper, I swear.
Also, I really didn't like the story.

you should had tried stealth. I'll admit this is a flaw on the game's part because the first game DID allowed you to be a rambo (once the necesary augmentations were adquired of course, namely regeneration, power recirculator, cloak, ballistic shield, vision enhancement, and the agresive defense system, you are a walking GOD)
with the afore mentioned augs and a fully modified and upgraded combat auto-shotgun with a scope, you could pass the entire game as if you were playing half-life or halo, and basically give stealth the middle finger.
But the game empathized stealth majorly over combat (like in HR stealth gave more exp) and to most fans (myself included) being sneaky ended up being more fun. Because of this, when they developed HR they scrapped the "rambo-style" entirely, and this is why the protagonist even on easy, and even with a fully upgraded dermic armor is still made of tissue paper, you NEED to use cover and pop enemies 1 by 1 or you die really fast. Is almost like games such a splinter cell where if discovered and in a straight up fight, you dont last even 4 seconds, or hitman where you also dont take much damage before biting the dust. And while I'm a fan of such games, I realize not everyone is =/
In the end it doesn't make much difference to me since I'm a fan of stealth, but I would had apreciated it if the option to go gunz-blazing was still present.
Also give the story a chance :P have you finished it? the original had a fantastic story, and this one (for what I've been able to see) is just the same in that aspect.

I think Adam on normal and with defensive augs would be about as durable as Shepard on Insanity. In my opinion, "rambo style" is something like "shooting everyone and leaving only corpses behind you". You can do that in Human Revolution, but you have to cover, as in Mass Effect.

He isn't even close that durable on easy. I took anything I could think of to make him more of an up front fighter.
Three shots from an enemy and I was dead.
And no, I haven't finished it yet. Like I said, I don't like stealth games... which makes me not very good at them. A started using stealth and such and it got frustratingly hard. I might eventually go back and finish it, but I really didn't give a damn about the story.
I'm fine with games where cover is needed. I mean, I beat Halo 2 on legendary. Ramboing that is impossible. But even then, Master chief can at least take a shot.

nah, "rambo style" means going in gunz blazing, giving stealth and cover the middle finger and just shooting everyone.
You didn't saw rambo taking cover a single time in his movies, he just shot that M60 for 2 hours (While strangely hitting all his targets, but none of the bad guys hitting him). Most straight up shooters are like that, allowing you to endure a lot of punishment so you can fight from the front without getting shredded (Which is what would happen if you try to use "Rambo Style" in real life. Bullets do hurt like crap, I know it personally)
In the Original Deus Ex, the rambo Style was posible once the right augs and weapons were obtained, but HR is a pure stealth game. If you are discovered you MUST fight from cover, because a couple of shots are enough to kill you. I mean, when I played the beta, I killed every single enemy, that doesn't mean I went "Rambo-style" it just means I used cover all the time, and fired in short containted bursts while moving from cover to cover.
HR is a more tactical game than most, pop your head from the same cover twice and u'll get hit. Get hit a couple of times and you're dead. Try to fight without using cover and you're dead. Its a game that encourages to taking down enemies quietly with stealth. Me, I used a silenced gun and the trank rifle on my second playthrough of the beta, worked like a charm as long as you have enough accuracy to do headshots all the time (Which I do)
also Atik, I think (not 100% sure) that if you got a fully upgraded dermic armor you can endure a bit more punishment, but it still wont be enough to negate the use of cover 100%.

I still need a LOT of cover. Just jumping from one position to another for a better shot can get me killed.
The takedowns are another thing I don't like. It suddenly goes from playing a game to watching a movie with some annoying animation mini-cutscene.
And there a moments in the game where you NEED to use, like, fifteen takedowns in a row without firing a single shot or you get swarmed. So annoying.
And most straight up shooters have cover, but it isn't commonly needed when only fighting small groups of enemies. Dead space, Left 4 Dead, Halo, Modern Warfare, and Half-Life all have segments where you want to use cover to survive.

straight shooters yes, stealth games....... not so much.
Splinter cell= can survive at most 3 shots
Hitman = cant survive more than 3 enemies firing at the same time.
Batman Arkham Asylum= a single burst of automatic fire can kill you on normal
Swat 4 = a single burst of enemy fire can kill you.
Some games are more realistic than others, in some, you can take an inhuman amount of damage, in others you are as frail as a real human being would be.
just because a straight up shooter has cover, doesn't mean its needed (in fact I never used cover on dead space, halo, modern warfare, or half-life, and never got killed once). This is ok because there are many varieties of gamers, some like straight up action, others value tactics more. I do enjoy a fair amount of straight up shooters (Doom 3 and half-life 2 being my ultimate favorites) but I'm also a fan of stealth games.
Again, I'll admit this was perhaps not the best choise by the developers, since the first deus ex DID allowed you to play it like a standard FPS (READ: using cover only when overwhelmed by more than 6 enemies, but being able to dispatch like 3 enemies up front without needing to cover).
Takedowns are another thing that irks me. See I love them, I never get tired of seeing them, but I would had apreciated having regular melee weapons. Sometimes (when bullets are low, and no bio-energy is avaliable) you just need a simple melee weapon to take care of a lone foe.
Also, takedowns are not allways mandatorial if you want to remain undetected, the trank rifle is there for that (of course you need to be a quick shot with it because sleeping enemies can be woken up, but on the beta, once I was in derelict row, I dispatched an entire 6man crew of Derelict Row Bangers with just the trank rifle from the fire escape stairs.
Just shoot them fast enough for them to not have the option of waking up their friends.
also atik, out of curiosity, how far are you in the game? did you finished the highland park F.E.M.A facility? or you haven't gotten there yet?
Edit:
here is TVtropes's definiton of a Stealth game:
In most computer games the player's character is powerful enough to mow down enemies left and right. They don't have to worry about setting alarms off, or enemy reinforcements being summoned. (True, there are occasionally levels where you have to be a bit careful, but those are specifically scripted.)
In a Stealth-Based Game, the player's character is simply too weak to survive a head to head confrontation with his enemies most of the time. Either it's too easy to die, or you can't carry enough ammo, or there is some other reason.
Whatever it is though, they've got to be careful, stick to the shadows, kill silently, and only when necessary. And they better hide the bodies well because someone is going to stumble over them otherwise.
The different types of stealth used can be broken up as such, though many are often hybrids.
Line Of Sight Breaking: Horizontally or vertically, stay out of view. (Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2, horizontal) (Assassin's Creed, vertical)
Moving Through Shadows: Avoiding the light, creating darkness to move through. (Thief, Splinter Cell, partly Hitman)
Hidden In Plain Sight: As part of the crowd or as part of the scenery. (Hitman and Assassin's Creed, crowd) (Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4, scenery)
A Stealth-Based Game is to a Straight Up Shooter as a real spy is to James Bond

I would have to check my save. I know I took down the first boss you mentioned and think I did a second one, but I'm not much further than that.
Also, how the hell do you beat Halo on legendary with no cover? Maybe easy, but I can't imagine never taking cover against foes like jackal snipers and ranged forms.

I love this game. It's a very tactical stealth-based, RPG-esque shooter.

I didnt :P I never really liked halo, I played the first one but never got arround to finish it. I know a lot of people love that saga, but personally, I found it too regular. I have played other straight up shooters
Again off the top of my head: Modern warfare (as well as the other call of duty games, yes there are others xD) Half-life (1 and 2, along with the episodes and expansions) Dead Space (1 and 2) Doom (1 2 and 3) Quake (1 2 and 4, I dont like multiplayer-only Shooters, too hollow, if it doesnt have a plot, it doest have my interest either) Max Payne (1 and 2) Black, Dark Watchers, Duke Nukem, and a long ect.
But stealth games are a diferent genre (even if they are similar). In a stealth game, the challenge consists that you are too weak for a direct confrontation, and thus must take out your enemy with an indirect confrontation.
The beta ends when you kill the first boss, and I finished that beta by taking out the enemies quietly (Silenced gun and trank rifle REALLY help) avoiding alarms, having maxed hacking to disable security grids, creating distractions (Like trowing a box) to lure enemies and take them out with takedowns or the stun gun, and sniping from a distance with the silenced gun (Headshots only, or else they'll spot you)
This is what makes Stealth games so awesome, the fact that you gotta think "outside the box" to take out a room of hostile foes, as oposed to simply pull out your assault rifle and open up fire.

But the major problem is that later in the game, the enemy amounts suddenly make you think it is a straight up shooter. When twelve enemies are firing at your cover with full-auto weapons and two shotgun guys are about to run me over; WTH do I do?

I haven't had any problems at all, and I'm usually bad at shooters.

I am tempted to start the game again and just kill everyone even remotely hostile, just to see it myself... but I'd like to finish my second Witcher 2 playthrough first. :B
(I had a long post written, but then I realised it was effort spent on Atik, so I deleted that)

Eh, as a Ghost/Hacker character, I have bought wall punching rather early. The goal is to be able to reach every secret hidey hole, and there are quite a few only accesible through wall punching (Oh and you can also get two praxis kits through wall punching). I had so many points at the end of the game though, that I started pooling them into the combat augs purely because I suspected a last boss coming, and I already had everything I wanted.
Yeah, I also found that ladder behind the police station kinda silly. But other times, I really love what can be accomplished by stacking boxes, and how the level design really counts with that as an option. I also really like using the 2-box method to get through electrified floor.
The only voice that kinda irked me was Adam's. For the same reasons Batmans voice irks me, in the last two Batman movies. Random throat cancer. Does anyone without a vocal-cord-affecting health condition actually talk like that?
Sarif sounds like he is drunk 24/7. :D
Speaking of Square soft, I loved the Final Fantasy 27 posters that were in the game, lol. And Pritchard had a TRON bike in his office. And I absolutely loved how he had CRT monitors stacked in an arch. HA, THERE IS SOMETHING YOU CAN NOT DO WITH THEM LCD'S.
