Special ammo for ranged weapons?

The quiver itself would be useless, but the enchantment you place onto it would be the driving force.
Quiver could be cosmetic though.
Example1: For a bow, you could have a green quiver with arrows that you draw from it, which give a poison debuff. Or it could be red, and give extra fire damage.
Example2: For a gun, it could be an ammo pouch/powder... whatchamacallit/sack (forgot the word). Or, for another buff, it could be an ammo belt worn across the chest, etc.
Powderhorn? is that what you were looking for? lol
I do miss seeing a quiver on my hunter when she's bombin around with a bow.
Fem Tauren worked it pretty well, even if the bowstring bends backwards.

You should see some of my other ideas. Check my user profile =P
I has. They is lots. I like the Postbringer series the bestest.

If you're saying what I think i'm hearing, that you want Hunters to have 4 different quivers just so we can switch them out, then no, we don't want that. However, if you're saying that the quiver is cosmetic and we can change it, as in my enchantment idea, then yes, that is convenient. Other than that, your comment makes no sense to me. What are you trying to propose?

Sorry, I was kind of out of it last night (and today too. I don't know what it is). I'll try to reexplain:
Quivers are reimplemented as a cosmetic item. Each quiver has a unique design. Each quiver will also change color, depending on what enchant is on it. For example, one quiver could be leather with golden scrollwork on it. The leather changes color depending on what enchant you're using.
Powderhorn? is that what you were looking for? lol
Yes! Thanks a bunch!
As for the bullets, I'm not quite sure how that would work. Maybe the powderhorn could change color depending on the enchant, and you could have an ammo belt that also changes color, etc.
Basically, it boils down to the quiver and belt/powder horn are purely cosmetic with unique models, and the enchant changes their color.

Oh, what you're talking about is purely visual, for the model and such, not what it actually does.

i dont really care if it would do soemthing, but if it just gave a pretty visual effect it would be awesome enough.
remember those frost arrows from AV, that had an icy glow
Thori'dal's magical arrows look neat.

Hey guys thanks for all the ideas! I like the coloured quiver idea, and like the arrows stated by Interest. The idea was that you wouldn't NEED arrows but you COULD have, to boost your bows damage, or give it snaring/poisoning/healing debuffs.

To use the coloured quiver idea, i would think that you would get the quiver to show which enc. you had on. you wouldn't need to equip a quiver/powderhorn.

They had ammo back in the day and too many people whined that it cost too much and they had to carry too much and all the other crybaby stuff for leveling and so on. It went along the lines of being the only class that absolutely relied on an expendable item to function. Of course this wasn't in any way rationalized by having a controllable cruise missile of doom for multiple targets, your own personal tank for group quests and the ability to nearly always avoid any substantial repair bill in raid wipes.
Just throwing my 2 cents i think that Blizz did well in removing old ammo system.
I'm not talking about the danger of being out of ammo, but i think that it's stupid that hunters had 1 less bag because of the ammo , throw in the fact that many hunters had a profession that required another container slot and you can have only 2 all-purpose bags at a time, and this was especially frustrating in vanilla wow because back then bag space was a big problem.
Edit: However i wouldn't mind having a roguelike ammo system, although this falls into the homogenization topic.
Edit2:typo.
Correct. Either keep out the ammo requirement or make it so hunters aren't penalised for it.
Give them an extra bag slot which can only hold an ammo bag, give them an extra occupation slot that can only be used for an occupation creating ammo (and have that occupation not require items from other occupations, which would lock hunters into specific occupations still or force them into expensive buying trips)...
This is effectively how most games do this, and it works. Ammo is either crafted from random drops from mobs, dropped by mobs (like retrieving your expended ammo in the field) or sold dirt cheap from vendors (so you're not spending 1g on arrows needed to kill a mob that yields maybe 1s in dropped loot).
OR make it so every single class requires items to be kept on them to the same degree, and special skills and bags for them.
So a mage or healer MUST recharge their staff or other casting weapon every few casts and must make or buy stuff to do so.
A melee fighter would have to forcibly sharpen their weapon every few strikes (or something like that) and carry the grindstones for it with them in bulk.
Of course that would never fly with the other classes, and for the obvious reason that it's a silly requirement.
AWESOME IDEA!

I like the idea of attaching flaming heads, or cover the arrows with poison, or firing anti material (Armor ignore) shells
Shaman enchant type
Visual Effect could be the color of your quiver

I'm pretty sure like back at post #13 or close, Interest detailed them out pretty well. Someone repost that and give it more specific abilities, then throw it on the official forums.

Random thought.
would the damage still be "physical" class damage? Or would it dealt as spell damage, and effected by things like Earth and Moon or w/e that Boomkin debuff is.
TBH even if they didn't effect the damage because the programmers don't wanna worry about that variable tipping scales, I'd still like to see that cosmetic addition:
Something more obvious for guns, like loading rounds or something.
- I play Fem Tauren. Last I recall (i have boa bow now) she was "pulling a slide" like it was a pistol not a rifle. lol
- Maybe tag different guns by name to have different reload animations? Pump action on the shotguns/blunderbii, "magazines"/boltactions for the rifles?
I just miss the quiver for bow/xbow.
- though touching up some of the weird image bugs would be nice. Like the BoA bowstring bending around the body, so it looks like the string is being pushed into the stave, as opposed to being pulled away from it as it should be.
It's these little things that I enjoy, from an immersion/rp sense.
Blizzard seems to be on this hump lately, with the changes to some class mechanics, namely removing timers.
Which leads me to rogues.
This idea could also be applied to rogues poisons, in the form of "enchanted" sheathes. It's been done to an extent in D&D. And considering how much content is so similar, I'm surprised they haven't rolled with it before.
Amazing what you think of in the bathroom.
