Personally I wear a mix of PvP gear and PvE gear to optimize. That being said, I wouldn't run with less than 3k resil. So yes, kinda wrong, you need some resil to compete.

If the enemy is stupid? If your own team steamrolls them? sure, it won't matter then then.
I nearly got wrecking ball on my freshly dinged hunter this way.(

But if its a close match? and your team losses? In that case the PvE geared players tend to be the reason your team lost(not counting the 40-man BGs.)

I'll take a PvE geared player who knows what he is doing and is actually trying to do the right thing (not just farm kills) over a horrible player in full current-tier gladiator gear any day. Would PvP gear help? Sure, but it is not the only factor. I want someone willing to stay at a tower in AV until it burns. I want someone who attacks demos instead of people in Strand. I want someone who doesn't fight on the roads in AB, or just sit at the GY farming kills in WSG.
Also, people get so caught up in the PvP vs PvE argument that they don't use common sense. If I have a top-tier PvE item, I am not going to replace it with an entry level PvP item just for a little more resil. You don't need every single item to have resil, even to the point of gimping your other stats. In fact, with some toons it has always been ok to have split gear. Rogues, for instance, have always used mixed pvp/pve gear because their game is centered around bursting and disappearing. I don't care how much resil you have, a rogue should never just stand there and take more than a hit or two.
I am not saying PvP gear is not needed, I am saying that it isn't the only thing to look at. People are so caught up in the "you MUST use PvP gear" thing that while I was leveling recently I ran into several people in the lower brackets that were using older gladiator gear 5 or 6 levels past the level they got them at. One guy was running with Field Marshall gear at level 68 because he was so sure that you needed PvP gear for BGs. Northrend greens would have been worlds better, but they were PvE gear.
Before you argue that "sure, that is at lower levels", it is the same at end game. Before Cata hit, I saw people with the kingslayer title who had gotten bored of PvE and they were wearing the craftable lvl 78 PvP gear in BG's. They had the best heroic raid gear, but were wearing stuff 5 or 6 steps below it because people insisted so much that you need to be in full PvP gear to do PvP. I think that lacks common sense. Now, if you had wrathful gear in your bag and ICC 10 man stuff, sure get the wrathful stuff. But if you have crafted stuff below the lowest tier arena stuff vs heroic 25 man gear you should almost always use the considerably better PvE gear.
I want someone who attacks demos instead of people in Strand.

But, well said, sir.

Tank classes can get away with it due to having built in resil. and Stealth classes that are played right can also. But anything else is just asking for a hurtin

here's the thing.... you can suck however you like in a bg ... so wear what you like
but if you want to suck less and have some success( see what i did there xD ) get pvp gear.... the resilience helps ....ALOT

Wait, wait, wait, wait... we are arguing about PvE gear in a random battleground? Not even rated? What's the big deal; it's all a big dice roll anyway. Hell, I just ran a bg with 8 healers in WSG and we lost because of it. Nothing we could do about it.
More to the point, in random battlegrounds, skill still takes priority over gear. although if you have neither, good luck and god bless. Yeah, the gear helps, but if it's a pug, who gives a crap. Don't know why you guys freak out about it so much. Anyone who is actually serious about PvP is going to be in a rated group or arena team. Random battlegrounds are for the casuals and casual play. Point. Blank. Period.

Just to spite people I will put my pvp gear in the bank and some bgs in pve gear. Hah! That will show them! Unless you take into account the opposing factor, to whom I'm actually doing a favor. So it isn't selfish.
Either way, selfish schmelfish, until you pay for my play, I do whatever the fudge I want. If that's logging in and hopping into a bg instead of grinding freaking dailies or farming ore to get money for crafted gear then so be it. I pay to play when I'm bored, not to play to get bored.
