Is it considered wrong to not wear pvp gear in bg's

Meh, I play the game for fun, if someone in no pvp gear comes to bg I am happy if they aren't plain stupid. I see plenty of people in no or little res gear rofl stomp others because they play smart, and people with full pvp gear sit in mid all game and do diddly for the team.
common scenario, in a flag cap style game...person sits at flag, uses aoe to pop stealthies, and when the enemy comes yells INC and generally winds up dead due to there being far more enemy than ally....it doesn't seem to matter the gear level of the person guarding the flag there's (almost) always too many. In that super common scenario all you need is 1 working braincell and the ability to type.
I think that since we have rbg now, if you want to be all serious go do those, let the pugs be fun because you aren't going to stop people coming in with no gear and no clue...just roll with it and things are so much more enjoyable.

I've always wished for battlegrounds where you need full of the current season PvP gear to enter.

I still don't see an issue. I guess it must just be me then. I guess we will agree to disagree.

I'll take a PvE geared player who knows what he is doing and is actually trying to do the right thing (not just farm kills) over a horrible player in full current-tier gladiator gear any day. Would PvP gear help? Sure, but it is not the only factor. I want someone willing to stay at a tower in AV until it burns. I want someone who attacks demos instead of people in Strand. I want someone who doesn't fight on the roads in AB, or just sit at the GY farming kills in WSG.
Also, people get so caught up in the PvP vs PvE argument that they don't use common sense. If I have a top-tier PvE item, I am not going to replace it with an entry level PvP item just for a little more resil. You don't need every single item to have resil, even to the point of gimping your other stats. In fact, with some toons it has always been ok to have split gear. Rogues, for instance, have always used mixed pvp/pve gear because their game is centered around bursting and disappearing. I don't care how much resil you have, a rogue should never just stand there and take more than a hit or two.

I am not saying PvP gear is not needed, I am saying that it isn't the only thing to look at. People are so caught up in the "you MUST use PvP gear" thing that while I was leveling recently I ran into several people in the lower brackets that were using older gladiator gear 5 or 6 levels past the level they got them at. One guy was running with Field Marshall gear at level 68 because he was so sure that you needed PvP gear for BGs. Northrend greens would have been worlds better, but they were PvE gear.
Before you argue that "sure, that is at lower levels", it is the same at end game. Before Cata hit, I saw people with the kingslayer title who had gotten bored of PvE and they were wearing the craftable lvl 78 PvP gear in BG's. They had the best heroic raid gear, but were wearing stuff 5 or 6 steps below it because people insisted so much that you need to be in full PvP gear to do PvP. I think that lacks common sense. Now, if you had wrathful gear in your bag and ICC 10 man stuff, sure get the wrathful stuff. But if you have crafted stuff below the lowest tier arena stuff vs heroic 25 man gear you should almost always use the considerably better PvE gear.

There's no other way to get conquest points I'm afraid. But don't be afraid to just make a quick 2s team and run arenas. You should be able to find someone to team with in trade easily enough. Even if you get your asses kicked 20 times, thanks to the matching system you'll eventually meet a team that are doing the same as you and you'll score some wins.
Arena, particularly 2's, is no more the exclusive domain of hardcore pros than random BGs. Dive in - killing people is fun. In World of Warcraft.
Gearwise, sure, get the crafted PVP set if you can, but if for some reason you can't then you're well within your rights to run random BGs to build the honour set. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise (and worse, gets nasty about it) is a #$%^&*bag and can be safely ignored.

People in pve gear get 2-3 shotted. I dont care what your dps output is, you cant dps when ganked, stunned, death coiled, rooted.
If you find yourself being top and not dying much means you arent being targeted. Simple as it is. As soon as someone notices you are pve geared you will be trained by everyone - it feels good to 2 shot someone.
Dumb question (and I assume there must be something) -
Is there an add on that quickly looks at someone's gear and then flags them for low/medium/high/zero resliance? I would LOVE to have something like that when I go ahunting in BGs ;-) (or, even better, in the opening moments of 3v3 when I want to find the weak link)
No addon. Just brain. If you 2-3 shotted someone a minute ago, you will most likely repeat that over and over. Chances the person "forgot" to wear resi gear are small. Its easy to spot on mana classes (ridiculously high mana pool).
I'm sorry to burst your bubble there, but if a frost mage knows how to play his class it doesn't matter if he has PvP gear or not. You won't land a single blow on him. That is if you are melee. If you're a caster he is smart enough to not engage you directly which is okay, the same way I, as a rogue, won't engage a feral druid because I won't have a chance.

As an arms warr I beg to differ ^.^ Any decent melee should be able to kill a PVE geared frost mage. Granted, still not a walk in the park, but pretty doable. As a rogue you could prolly kill him in a stunlock so I don't really see what you're talking about =/
You won't be able to stunlock a mage who knows what he's doing. Trinket, blink, double Iceblock. Even if thats not enough, whenever you get a stun in, which he breaks, diminishing return will eventually make him immune. I'm sorry but you can't stunlock a frost mage who has a clue about what he's doing. And as an arms warrior... Same deal, you've got heroic leap, charge and intercept. Once they're used you're just his next target, at least until charge is back from it's cooldown.
Edit: Ahh okay. I didn't read that you said "any decent melee".. Yea you're right about that. Of course they would have the upper hand due to their resilience, however, we're still talking battlegrounds and as such, the chance that you will be targeted by everyone is low, and the chance that you have a healer on you is ~ somewhat high :D
