Should probably have made a link to let people know what you are talking about.

You can't just make a thread with one word, you're assuming every user knows everything about the case, you're not directing any form of the discussion - you aren't actually making any effort to create the thread, so how do you expect people to take the effort to discuss something they may not be very knowledgable about?

You're doing it wrong.

Sad as it is, before today, didn't know about the case, and only knew about the not guilty verdict because it broke into the program I was watching. Other then that.....I just don't really care; if she really did it, sad that she got away with the killing of her own daughter she never should have had in the first place and probably should have just given it up for adoption instead.

I'm pleased to know that murders involving small white children are a billion times more newsworthy than all the other murders.

Was she acquitted on all charges, or just the first degree murder?

Instead, she was convicted of only four counts of lying to investigators looking into the June 2008 disappearance of her daughter Caylee. Her body was found in the woods six months later and a medical examiner was never able to determine how she died.
Thank you. I think I'm going to be ill. Of course, I wasn't in the court room, but based on what seemed like exhaustive coverage of every day of testimony, I can't believe that she didn't get more. I can see there being some doubt as to whether or not it was first degree murger, but if negligent supervision of your child leads them to drown, which is what her lawyer said happened, I would think some kind of neglect or criminally negligent manslaughter charge would be appropriate.

I agree completely. It's sad too, because everyone knows that it is her fault, even if she did not directly kill her daughter. Someone made some money off this decision, imo.

BREAKING NEWS. Florida legalizes murder. News at 11.
I'd say what's more likely to have happened was that some very poor choices were made by the prosecution. Taking a case forward with no clear cause of death is essentially one persons word against another.
While true, this is a sad reality of how our 'injustice system' works. Assuming that I kill someone, as long as I can do a good enough job of cleaning up the scene, and disposal of the body, than I can be caught in dozens of lies, and have mountains of other evidence presented against me, and I will be found not guilty.
I guess we can only hope that for the few years that she does spend behind bars, that she will be placed in General Population. My guess is that unless she is segregated, she won't make it out in one piece.

Right, but if the defense's story is that the child drowned because the mother left her alone in the pool, then the prosecution doesn't have to prove that she was at the very least negligent- she admitted she was.

*nods* As another recent example, take a look at the case against the former head of the IMF - the one who supposedly raped a maid at a hotel in New York? Turns out as the prosecution went about building the case, the maid was far from innocent; she's worked as a prostitute, apparently been involved with drug dealers regularly, and (probably most damning) apparently called her boyfriend right after the event and left a message that she planned on making some money off the situation.

Let's see if she publishes a book, "If I did murder my baby, this is what I would have done"

Then maybe she'll push someone into another room, and get 33 years for kidnapping, and all will be right with the world.

Now, that's quite an inappropriate comment - this is hardly a subject that should be joked about.
Anyway; I haven't been following the case closely, but from the evidence available, one can conclude that she
probably
did murder her baby, or if not, her carelessness led to the death of the baby. Either way, she should be locked away for a long time, if you ask me.

He's referencing the book that OJ Simpson wrote, after he was found not guilty, that said "If I HAD been the one who murdered my wife, this is how I would have done it." Since he was protected by double jeopardy, he basically wrote and published a detailed description of how he committed the crime, and made money off of it.

I think it was specifically a reference to the O.J. Simpson trial. I didn't really find the comment inappropriate, but I'd go ahead and report it if it bugs you; commenting on it doesn't really do much good.
Darnit, Elhonna beat me to it.
