Is WoW on its deathbed?

Don't listen to the loud minority. Those who know the least often sound off with the loudest voices.

Maybe not on the deathbed yet...but for those of us who played from "back when" we are definitely not sleeping in the original bed anymore.
Trouble is you can't separate the game from the community. The quality of the game is defined by its targeted market segment. Today's WoW is definitely targeting a different genre then that of it's origin. Those it attracts will be positive in their response and those like me who liked to have seen the pattern of TBC followed will say otherwise.
Early WoW was like underground music before it gets discovered and goes mainstream. Small hidden away club(WoW pre-Activision)...intimate close knit feeling, everyone in the crowd kind of knows each other.(Pre-LFD).
It is what it is now. I stopped fitting in with this genre of WoW game/players and with that have pretty much taken to just helping family members level toons/professions.
The game is now, for all intent and purpose, just a large group of players, void of any familiarity with one another.
Outside of the few remaining "Oasis" guilds...we are all pretty much iLevel numbers now.
Like a long time member/friend of my guild recently said me prior to closing his account, "the game is pretty much like playing Xbox now, so why not just play Xbox and save my subscription money"
PS. When WoW was still raw those players QQed about making the game better...today's player QQ about making the game easier. Sign of the times I guess.

I hate to make a bad joke, but anything involving WoW's current decline (yes, at the moment it's effectively in decline) is a setback. This is nothing new, to be honest.
It'll "bounce back."
However, I will say, Blizzard needs to consider giving (more) content that is clearly more accessible by everyone, as noted by my thread linked below (not "easier" raids, like in Wrath) for the sake of further longevity of the game.
Edit: I like editing a lot.

If only the unhappy members of the community did what I did when I was unhappy with the Cata release: Quit. Blizzard is much less likely to listen to much if they don't see their numbers drop drastically. When I was tired of the expansion and unhappy with it, I left and moved onto other things to pass my free time. It's a pretty simple solution.

Whether or not you believe WoW is dying depends on whether you view it as being like pizza or 3 course meal. You can choose to cram half the pizza down your gullet, or take the time to savour your appetizer, chew your steak slowly, and linger over coffee and dessert.
Am I surprised that players are bored and burnt out? No, I'm not. Am I bored and burnt out? No, I'm not, but then again I play in ways the loud minority loathe. I did all the quests in each of the new zones before moving on, and I did both Hyjal and Vash before going to Deepholm, and I read quest text for every single one. I alt. I am levelling up one of each of the new race/class combos. I am Everyquesting a couple of toons, reduced xp be damned, and reading all the quest text for all the quests 1-60. Then there's crafting, tinkering with some PvP, achievements to be earned, faction rep to be earned, etc.
I am so far from being over WoW, I feel like it just started.
But hey, if you rocketed your single toon (or two) to 85, jumped right back on the gear hamster wheel, have been stuck in raids since December, and are fed up with the game, you have only one person to blame and you look at them every morning when you comb your hair.

The way you play sounds actually quite fun and interesting, I think I might try it. Blizzard actually puts quite alot of work into even simple quests and so many players including myself just skip over the text without a thought and go kill stuff.
And now on topic, I don't think WoW is on its Deathbed just yet but Blizz is now working on a new MMO "Titan" so I would be suprised if they even come out with another expansion.

WoW has a long road before it finally goes *kapoot*. World of Warcraft has had many changes but this doesn't mean one simple change is going to dump a load of players into the recycle bin. If you look at the fact, 80% of complaining subscrbers still play wow and adapt to the new enviorment given to them. 20% either calls it quits or doesn't progress any further. The new place style is easy to adapt like the Final Fantasy VIII junction system. Starts off complicated, but then we go with it like a daily routine. ( Only true players like me would know what I mean.)
The point is, Blizzard makes new content for us, and we repay them with moans, groans, and constant complaints because our class got nerfed and the other was buffed. If you cannot adapt to the new play style. You are most likely going down with the other people who can't take change as a good thing. WoW has another good hundred iles before it decides to end.

WoW is not on its deathbead but the newness has worn off. I can see how hard core raiders may get bored with content not comming out quick enough. I can see how casuals might get turned away by not being able to keep up with end game progression. I can see how pvp players get frustrated when it seems like classes are almost balanced, the level cap goes up. I play as a hobbie and a time sink. I think a lot of players just enjoy logging on for a few hours a week to trade real life stress for azeroth stress. These players are going to be the ones keeping WoW alive. Subscriptions may go down but they are still very high compared to any other game out there.

Thank you for all the replies, and I have got to say that I agree with most of them (even though I don't play the game :P)
But speaking from experience, I must say that when I was playing WoW about half a year before I quit, I felt that everything in the game was becoming pretty boring. Buying a Playstation and trying the FPS games was tempting, so I went ahead and bought me a PS 3 and I had alot of fun.
But then, one-and-a-half-year later, I started getting tired of the Playstation and the FPS games, and then 'surprisingly' I started feeling nostalgic towards WoW and wanted to start playing it again.
(I can see a pattern here :P)
So I guess it's a kind of 'the grass is greener on the other side' issue here.
To back that up, if I had never quit WoW and had been playing it for 5 years and saw a topic like this, I think I would comment something along the lines of :
Yeah, WoW is getting pretty boring I think I am going to switch to consoles or something else etc..
Whereas if I had just started playing WoW I would say:
Of course not! WoW is better than ever, it's much better than any other games, on all platforms and so forth..
Anyways, just my two cents, I may be wrong :)

Theres actually a class action lawsuit against Sony about them shutting down SWG and for locking any type of petition to keep it up on their forums. Dunno how far itll go but people are desperate to keep SWG up heh. (it was actually a very awesome game in its first few years.) And about the other games, EQ currently has
17
expansions, the player base may be small compared to when say Planes of Power was out, but it still has enough to keep a good amount of servers running after 13 years. Runescape, never cared for it but its been around for a long ass time as well with a good population. And Ultima? well Ultima is in a class of its own compared to the others, but the fact that the 2nd oldest MMO is still running (although private servers seem to be more popular than the official servers) should tell people something about WoW; its not going anywhere unless Blizz says so, which means its not going anywhere. Sure there will be the new blizz IP MMO but there will be support and new content for WoW for some time to come.
And just because the game is getting boring
to you
doesnt mean its on its "deathbed" its just that you played the game enough to know it was time to move on, no big deal. But it seems people who think WoW is "dying" or on a huge decline (yes its in a slight decline but all MMOs face this) are just getting bored of it and try to drag it down with them almost, at least thats what I get when people bring up these types of topics, which has been going on since Vanilla days.
