Another type of burst cooldown for Affliction could be interesting. Nothing like Metamorphosis, but something that could help out on damage %, or more haste or something.
A talent that buffs Searing Pain damage for x % per each DoT spell on the target. It would give some burst to affliction, and the best part is that if Searing Pain is interrupted, an afflock doesn't become unarmed~
I'm more worried about the hell of a threat we would do. I really never liked Searing pain, they should remove the threat part already, we haven't been tanking anything since BC.
Mentioning an afflict cooldown, so I gave it about 10 minutes of thought and came up with this...
Pact with the dark (or whatever) - The warlocks kneels down and goes into a trance, meditating on his target's soul. The warlock's damage over time spells on the target tick 3 times faster with the same duration and have dispel immunity. During this time, the warlock has a shield that absorbs 20k damage, but the warlock cannot move, cast spells, or receive healing. The spell lasts for 10 seconds or until the shield is broken. Cannot be cancelled.
What do you think? It is kind of unique and of course the numbers can be changed to balance appropriately.
That does seem pretty interesting, and also makes the spell with a nice benefit with a fitting drawback. We would be vulnerable and the amount of damage seems balanced, that is for burst classes, if that would be used against another warlock for example it would take a while do break down the barrier.
But nevertheless this seems like an awesome spell to be had.

Searing Pain was actually not to facilitate Warlock tanking but to allow for threat management with our pets - the equivalent is a Hunter's Distracting Shot.
When it came to fights like Twin Emperors (and onwards into tBC with Leotheras etc.) it certainly helped but Warlocks had more stamina than any other ranged class back then and more ways to divert damage so it wasn't the only reason they became
the
ranged tank if one was needed.

I've tanked
Keleseth
...
But I'd like to see some use for Searing Pain anyways.

I think technically they still do.

Indeed, though Interest's not wrong. With abilities like Soul Link and the option to jump into Demon Armour we're probably still the best option for a ranged tank should it come up again. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed tanking Keleseth for the week or two that it was required and was sad when they nerfed him.

I dunno. A Frost DK MIGHT be able to sustain threat at a range.

Sorry, I didn't recall those.
But still, searing pain has very few uses, I never really use it to juggle threat with my pet, and the other one I known is a quick nuke for destruction pvp.
Could it also be useful to aggro the mob from a healer? I'm not sure if we could build up the threat fast enough to save one.

Well, it very nearly became an execute phase ability for Destro (PvE) if you followed the CataBeta news O.o

I forgot about Rockbiter, to be honest.

So basically its nothing new, its a new graphic and something that is affected mastery. Which makes your main filler do crap damage at start (especially leveling) and possibly OP at really high gear levels.
A filler is supposed to be simple so its easy to balance.

I agree...so why did Blizz give Demo three fillers? ^_^
