I know a musical monk!
Wear cloth!
1 tank spec and 2 buff specs, heal buffer, dps buffer
NOTE: I JEST
I do like the idea of the buffer and the combo point style of healing. But isn't that already sort of in place for disc priests and their Disc AA, druid Lifebloom, paladin HoPo... Perhaps a combination of all those would be really interesting, but I could see it being even more complex than the Rune Tetris that is DK as healing is usually much more dynamic/reactive than tanking/dps.
I haven't played it but this idea makes me think of what my friend was telling me about the Cholormancer or w/e from Rift. Not a single strong class but a dynamic one for group play. Steal the life force from your enemies and then use it to heal your allies.... hmm, shadowhunter?
Yes Roackprime I like the "Buffer" idea but as you said it could fall due to the "must have" feel it would bring.

Bards don't fit with the Lore
well lore always changes. In BC I'm sure that most people were not thinking of death wing sprouting out of the ground causing all kinds of *!@# to the world. so who is to say some new people land in azeroth for god knows where and bring musical stuff with them. well but at this point what your saying is true but blizz can always add some thing new.
Death Wing actually makes sense and is an existing character. And actually yes, a lot of people expected DW to come back. Did you play WCII?

One thing i dont like of bard is the music thing. Im saying bard should be like more firy or something else looking like healing class like druid is nature. Paladin is light and shaman is nature and water i think too.
Fire or something but not music.
Healing class, i like it.

That... wouldn't be a bard then. How can you be a bard without music (or poetry, or writing)? Now, Rift does have a class, the Purifier, that heals with fire-based spells. But I don't think making Healing Class #5 be like 1-4, but with a different magic school would be all that exciting. Just saying.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but most healers operate on a direct heal or heal over time effect. These are all spellcasting abilities. If they're going to add a new healing class, it has to do something different, like how Death Knights operate differently from warriors and paladins. In that vein, I have two suggestions.
Go the Guild Wars 2 route, and make it not a healing class per se, but a damage mitigation class. Stop the player from being hurt, rather than healing them after they get hurt.
Or make a melee healer. A healer that requires hit rating, and smacks players with a healing stick. Give it a few ranged heals, but make it primarily a short-radius healer.
I think melee healer is too hard maybe in raids. And i dont know who heals in melee range maybe like doctor needling you. I like that shield thing but its like priest much. Just more priest i think but still looks like priest.
Make new healer have like earthguake what heals. Like 40 yard ring and it shoots random place arrows or something to heal.

Personally, I'm a pretty big fan of the idea of a "drain-healer". Think drain tanking as a affliction warlock combined with both targetted (a la Beacon) and maybe an aoe heal. AoE drain for AoE heal.
That would give the spec both raid and tank healing capabilities
and
allow them to do some small damage.
Just a thought...

There's nothing in the lore against bards, AFAIK.
And it wouldn't necessarily be a joke class. The two other MMOs that I play both have bards, and they're decently effective support. (That is, they specialize in buffs and debuffs.)
Now, I can kind of see not
calling
it "bard." ("Herald," perhaps? IDK.)

Just for reference I only said bard as a point of play style, aura sustaining healing, buffing, damage mitigation. There is a dwarf bard in twilight highlands if I hear right though.More of a minstrel then an actual Bard.

So I'm gonna just throw this out there by mentioning that Forsaken World has bards and by no means is it a "LOLIMABEJACKBLACKROCKSTARZ" like someone mentioned before. As do Rift and DDO. I wouldn't call either implementation "lookit me, I'mma rockstar!" (Rift's version is a rogue specialization; DDO's is...well, the D&D bard class.)
Have them heal, buff, debuff, and do some arcane damage. Mage with a bit of druid in the mix. (No need for instruments, unless we're talking relics.)
And with Bards not fitting lorewise, has this past expansion with the new race/class combinations not proven that Blizzard can find loopholes to allow for these exceptions? They wouldn't really need to find loopholes. Again, there's nothing in the lore ruling it out.

I lol'd at that. Macro a big hit cd with a /y "Get out of the fire!" as you whack them in the head with your weapon.

I don't see why they couldn't flesh out the idea of the green drake from Occulus.
Honestly, I'd ask to take green drake even on my DK/ Lock just because I love the mechanics. Draining life from enemies and funneling it into allies was so fun to me. It would be more involved than just spamming your heal rotation, as you have to manage DoTs and your health, etc.

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but the Chloromancer from Rift is a unique and very fun take on a healing class.
Basics are like this:
There are 2 Veils available that the Chloromancer can buff themselves with (one at a time)
-One is for AoE healing that heals for 100% of the damage done by the priest to all party members within a certain radius
-The other is for Single Target healing that heals nearby members for 40% of damage done and a single target (given a buff by the chloromancer) for about 200% (iirc). The chloromancer also has many damage abilities that give bonus healing to the single target if using this Veil as well.
Then they have...
-A DoT that heals allies near the target with the DoT for a little bit
-A debuff that gives allies healing the target a 15% chance each hit (iirc) to heal themselves for 100% of the damage the hit dealt.
-Multiple damage abilities, mainly a 2-second cast spell and an instant cast spell on a CD (used for bursts of healing) and an AoE.
They also have 2 straight up healing spells, both on a 30 or so second CD, one of which is an AoE heal centered around the chloromancer, and the other is an instant cast heal, which are only used in certain situations.
I personally loved healing as a chloromancer when I was playing, and I think a similar concept would work really well in WoW.
