I don't know that I'd even go so far as to label LulzSec a "cyberterrorist" group, even though I agree with you that the actions they took were clearly illegal. They weren't attempting to incite terror to control a group of people.
Attempting to label these hackers as "terrorists" seems to me to be fearmongering.
However, a few random teenagers hacking Sony is not 'cyber terrorism'. You wouldn't call robbing a store or just breaking in to a store or vandalizing a store terrorism. They didn't destroy anything. Yet. They didn't kill anyone.
They hacked a website and released personal details of hundreds of thousands of individuals. They made millions of PSN subscribers around the world concerned over the privacy of their personal details, their credit cards, and their services. How is that not terrorism? You don't need to physically harm people to terrorise them. How about the folks who bring down banking websites? Is that terrorism? How is that any different from bringing down an online gaming network?
And no, this isn't off topic - it's still very much about LulzSec.
I disagree. I find it rather petty that a multi-billion dollar corporation would have the gall to sue an individual. Send the guy a cease and desist letter for him to take it down. There is nothing wrong with cracking software and modding, imo.
There is nothing wrong with cracking and modding, possibly. There is something wrong with then subsequently distributing it. Again, using the Toyota example, you can pull apart a Prius engine to see how it works, and that's fine. What you can't do is then publish your findings, in any format. If it's OK to publish it online, will it then be ok to publish it in a journal? Publish it in books for profit? Where do you draw the line?
The legal line in this instance is for publication of any sort. The reason we have Creative Common copyright licenses is specifically to allow people to publish copied works. The fact that Sony and all the other major manufacturers have copyright licenses that prevent people from publishing copied works, by definition, makes it illegal. If it is, then yes, there is something wrong, and the guy should be sued.
Piracy will happen and the more you try to clamp down, the harder people will push back. When is the last time you heard about someone getting arrested for downloading music / movies? It's been awhile. The activity, however, has certainly not gone down.
Drug use will happen.
Assaults will happen.
Rape will happen.
That doesn't make any of those acceptable and most certainly doesn't justify an attack on someone trying to prevent any of the above.
I, personally, will welcome the day when cyberattacks are treated with the same seriousness as physical attacks.

They hacked Sony in retaliation for Sony being pricks.Wait...so if someone took something from you that you wanted to keep for yourself, then spread it around, so that everyone could have one...you wouldn't be angry? I really think more people should be brought for doing things like that. The response from these children was just sad; so because they were being pissy, all customers of Sony should suffer?

Well, as far as software goes, I wouldn't care and would make it freely available to being with.
I have a completely different viewpoint on software than these companies.
Yeah, but these are companies attempting to make money; your personal feelings aside, they exist to make money and if someone is using a pirated copy of their personal programs, I don't blame them for taking legal action.

Your kidding right?
every sony consumer was unable to use any multiplayer Sony products for 3 weeks, that hurts both Sony and all users of it.
How is the PBS thing an issue at all, oh no an obviously fake article about 2pac was posted, and now people are unable to use the CIA, PBS, and NATO websites for a bit.
That Sony attack caused more "harm" than the CIA,PBS, and NATO hit combined
Not kidding at all. It was justified and Sony shouldn't have been suing regular people that were not making money off of their property.
It did cause harm, I agree, but the others were not deserving of being attacked.
Well that's the thing: these morons are hurting innocent people in addition to striking at the big bad company. I did nothing to them, but they decided, because they are jack asses, to make it so that I couldn't access the new content I received for one of my PSP games; so yeah, I hope they get caught, I hope they end up in jail and I hope they are put away for a good long time.

So, for example, Blizzard should allow free private servers and make its source code free and accessible content? How exactly do you think that game companies fund new projects?
Here's an example.
a) Someone hacks into Blizzard and makes WoW free-to-play for all users for a month by giving everybody game time.
b) Blizzard sues the guy for hacking into their servers and for costing them millions in lost revenue.
c) LulzSec brings down WoW in retribution for suing the guy.
Is this:
1) Legal?
2) Morally right?
3) In any way justifiable?
I would say the answer is no, to all of the three questions. What about you?
