9/11 was human loss. Having said that, if a bomb exploded in an airport, causing no fatalities, but shut the entire airport down for a day while they scoured the place for threats - would you call that terrorism? If someone brought down an internet banking website for a day, would that be terrorism?
9/11 was also HUGE economic loss. Sony's hundred million that isn't really even directly attributable to the hackers isn't anything compared to that.
If someone blew up an airport, that is terrorism. Physical damage causing fear. No one is scared of a few kids hacking Sony. There is no terror to be found in that. Sony's just pissed off because someone exploited their lack of security.

My point was more that the economic loss is irrelevant, because there was human loss causing fear.

Again, why does there have to be physical damage? To what degree of physical / economic damage do you need to have before you think you can acknowledge something as terrorism?
No one is scared of a few kids hacking Sony.

Yes, it happened. Is it terrorism? No. Is anyone afraid to leave their house at night over it? Maybe that one guy who was already pretty damn scared anyway over how plastic wrap works or something.
It was to be physical or heavily impacting the economy. Sony taking a loss because they had to spend money on security is not affecting the entire economy.

Are people afraid to buy a PS3 or purchase games through the PSN with their credit card over it? Yes.

It had the potential to impact the entire economy by leaking out millions of credit card details, if hackers were stupid enough to try to use said details.

Actually, I don't know anyone who's afraid of trusting Sony still. They completely blame the hackers and say Sony is a perfect little entity without fault.
And it didn't happen - meaning that it does not qualify. In no part of the definition of 'cyberterrorism' does it state that it may 'have a very remote possibility of affecting the economy'. It says that it will, if that is the even that occurs rather than simply just a violent physical attack.

That would be the existing Sony fanboys. You can scour the forums to find plenty of Sony-hate as a result, especially on the Sony forums / blogs in the first week or two of the hack.

I'd need to check with my mates at the banks, but I'm pretty sure that there would have been a spate of credit card cancellations (or at least, card cancellations and requests for new cards) as a result.

Ah, I didn't even bother to check the address given how much has been going around. It's definitely fake.
Removing that post as well, if you wouldn't mind taking out the quote. No need spreading that.

Heh, instinct and intuition, go figure. The key words were "abundance of caution" - they shamelessly copied Sony's email.
One thing that I appreciate about the banks, and that software companies should learn from, is not including any links in emails that ask you to reset passwords / view account information, etc.

Assuming
this
is legit it appears that LulzSec are moving on from just attacking companies to extorting them also. Linked to it from the Jester's

Also grats on mod Squish.

If it can be proven that someone got hurt as a direct result of the Arizona law enforcement data leak, they can be held criminally responsible.

just food for thought. Arizona is creating a lot of immigration laws. Lets just say that there are gangs out there who do not want to be kicked out by these immigration laws. Lets just suppose that a smart gang leader gets some information on where the spouses of the politicians live and decide to kill a few. Now I know there is a thing called google that might have the same info. I also know that there is a much more grand scale. Some countries out there do not like the United States. Hard to belive but mabe these countries might be able to create an act of terroism much more sophisticated than a suicide bombing. Lulzsec taught us that a very small but very smart group can cause a lot of havoc in a short time. I have a feeling these guys will not quit. It's too fun for them. I also have a feeling they will get caught. Let's just hope no one gets seriously hurt and we can learn from it.

It's hilarious that they think 50 days is a long timeNowhere do they say this? In fact it's pretty logical that people in their position would quit while they were ahead (although it is probably already too late).

Seriously. It's about time they gave up, you step on a lot of powerful figures' toes, everything is bound to catch up.

When you're entire schtick is that you don't get caught, and people are close to catching you, what do you do if you have a brain? You get the hell out.
