Meat - My Sister

She would rather eat ground beef burgers and beef products from the store than to eat from a freshly killed cow that has no growth hormone injections. Our parents raise their own fresh chickens and she thinks it's inhumane to kill our own healthy chickens for food. She refuses to eat it and prefers the chicken from the grocery. "It's wrong to kill animals for food. It's better to buy the meat at the store."
Her 2nd argument is, "it is healthier to buy the meat from the grocery store because the meat has been clean, sprayed and regulated. Therefore, it is edible and safe to eat."
Last Saturday, there was a birthday party. When she saw that they were serving chicken from my parent's own backyard, she demonized parents and made a huge fuss about it.
How do I put her to sleep?
How can I change the way she see things?

El oh el. How old is she? Is she at the age of reason? (that age can differ)

Your sister sounds like a 14yr old who thinks they know everything. Tell her to shut up next time she starts talking nonsense like that.

She's 32, she has a BA in English and currently a teacher at a Middle School. If she was a kid, I wouldn't really care what she felt. but DAMN.

No such thing as non-hormonal growth meat now a days, unless you live out in the back end of no where on an Amish farm.

Do they buy their stock feed from a major company? There is more then likely hormones in there. Even if they are free range, what are they using on the grass there? Or in the water, or in any other number of things. If you want non-mutant cow, your best bet is still the Amish.

Yes because the only people who grow their own natural feed are Amish. Not one other person. It's the law.

Wait until she's over her period, then tell her how ridicoulus that is.

I don't think it's wrong to kill animals for food, but I can (sorta) sympathize with her in a way.
Personally, I'd rather not kill any more animals than necessary. So if I can buy meat from the store, I'd rather do that than kill another animal that might have a chance at life. For instance, let's say I have a couple pigs I've raised in my back yard. If I need pork, I'd rather go to the market and let my pig live.
Now, if the animal in question is already marked for death, then sure. Slay away.

That means she's been on the period all her life then.

Now a days might as well be; pretty much everyone else uses store produced stuff; either from the feed or from what they spray on it to deal with insects, molds and other infections.
Edit: And instead of being snarky, could actually make real rebuttals.

Sorry, I just had to.
Also, are you sure she's being serious? I mean, she says it's cruel to kill animals for food but then it's okay to buy
meat
from the grocery store. Contradiction much?

I think you were being over zealous in your urge to correct his spelling.

Dude... people tend to raise pigs because they rather eat the meat they have raised by themselves than the meat from the store, which can come from a whatever pig that ate whatever. It can also be cheaper than buying actual meat. People who raise pigs sometimes also own a field, and the pigs can be fed a lot of the trash stuff that you can not eat as a human. When you raise an animal for meat, you do not care about it's chance at life.

Maybe applies to America, Adams, but there is a whole lot of other countries. I have people in my own family (even though slightly distant family) that grow a majority of the feeding for their animals themselves.

I think Facesmasher has said he was from America; and it's not just the States as Canada does it too; fairly normal to see the sprayers out in the fields on the way to work.
