I.....I'm sorry Skree, but you have the same attitude there; you may say your mind is open, but it's just as closed as anyone else. You may not be able to convince me through theology and philosophy, but I am definitely still open to evidence, something you yourself stated you're closed to.
The problem is that religion does not base itself on evidence. It bases itself on faith.
Have you felt the holy spirit before? :DNo I have not, because in all likelihood, the Holy Spirit does not exist. I have had 'spiritual' experiences before, but that is because 'spiritual' experiences are simply the product of brain chemistry. See:
The God Helmet
.
I've felt the same type of experience when I consider the universe. Even simply realizing that we've put a human being on the moon produces in me a similar emotional response to that which I felt when I was religious.

I get to feel all of these.
I feel spoiled...

You guys can forget everything I said about not believing in God. I just found a video that shows absolutely that God exists.
I'm sorry if I have offended anyone.

Nice website, but anyone with any brain already knew that all gods are false.
EDIT: Steven Hawking denounced his beliefs, and so did Einstein, before he died.
Someone get this man a flame suit!

You know, it's funny; you can find religious people who give respect to people of non-religious views, but it's very rare to find an atheist who gives respect to those who are religious.
Must be something about the inherent hypocrisy of atheism (as opposed to being agnostic).

Ever think that you might not find the atheists who don't mind religion in a religious debate thread?
I give plenty of respect to people with religious views. Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Mohandas Gandhi... Not to mention Funden and Adams.
I just don't think their particular religious views make any sense.

*points up at trolling*
My point is that in debate, I find religious people tend to be more tolerant and respectful than non-religious people. You know that I engage on both sides of the argument, I'm just saying what I observe. You don't get nearly as much trolling from the religious side, typically. I think that the Atheist camp could learn something from that.

I think that part of the problem is that on the internet is where atheists have their power. In real life, atheists, myself included, have to deal with being marginalized, shunned, and talked down to if people know what they don't believe. On the internet, however, there are a lot more of us, and we're a lot better organized, and it's difficult to resist the temptation to take out our pent up anger at our real life antagonists on the religious people on the internet.
I myself try not to be vengeful or antagonistic. I will make my best efforts to show you that you're wrong, because I want to do away with organized religion, but I do my best to treat you as a person with feelings and experiences who in all likelihood has done nothing to wrong me.

Your IRL comments suggest to me that my original statement was incorrect, and it's just Americans that are rude and disrespectful of others (as opposed to religious/non-religious), seeing as the religious do it in real life, and the non-religious do it online. :P I've never seen any atheists in Australia marginalised and shunned by a religious majority (evangelic pentecostal Christians aside, who marginalise and shun everybody who doesn't listen to them), nor do atheists in Australia shun believers (again, except for the evangelic pentecostal Christians who literally don't listen), either.
Whether or not you're vengeful or antagonistic, if you join in to someone else's disrespect of others, you're being no better than them. There is no need for any trolling in a debate thread, temptation or otherwise.

I wouldn't say any of the main participants in this thread have said anything really disrespectful, just a few trolls through out.

Lets see the things that you have said about religion on this thread
- Religion has no logic, not "I dont see the logic in religion" just religion has no logic. This is a matter of opinion that most people would disagree with.
- Religion does more harm than good. Flat out not true.
- I take steps to remove religion by trying to convince people their beleifs are not true. This may be the most offensive thing that youve said, you may not be going out and knocking on peoples doors or physicaly trying to stop people from beleiving, but this is still very close to infringing on peoples rights. Most other people in this thread have just been trying to defend their own beleifs, you are the only one that said you are activley going out of your way to try and get people to NOT beleive what they beleive.
To me you seem to be acting just one step above those trolls that talk about the flying apegettie monster.

Ryjacork, the Flying Spaghetti Monster isn't a troll argument in and of itself. It's a valid example against Christianity through the use of inerrant texts and circular logic. Essentially, the use of the FSM argument is that Christianity has no more claim to truth than the FSM does, which is technically true.
While the people who quote FSM may be trolling, it in and of itself is not trolling. Anyone who states that they believe in FSM is trolling, however.
