Killer, I think you misunderstand the meaning of what God said in the passage from Genesis that was quoted earlier. He expects us to act like stewards for the world, to take care of the creatures that can't take care of themselves. Just to be clear, the earth was made for us, not the other way around. We are the only organisms that can appreciate the natural beauty of the earth on a higher level, and consequently, the only ones that can take care of it in the best way possible. But on the other things you said, it was already handled by the other posters.
This is exactly what im talking about. As stewards i dont feel like Humans are doing what they are ment to,as a whole i mean.Sure some are fulfilling there charge by God and some are a disgrace (a.k.a Terrorists,Murderers) but i dont know why i just see things like 10x times worse then they actually are.
What really pisses me off more then Terrorists & Murderers are hunters.Hunters as a whole (not WoW hunters) especially hunters who hunt illegally (a.k.a out of season). Why cant they understand that animals are important to the Planet and that Mankind is charged to protect them, instead they just kill them and take their skin for this ''Fancy coloured paper''.I mean just imagine you were a lion. You are walking around the hot jungle with your family, unaware that some retard is aiming at you with a gun.And instantly you die due to the dreaded bullet. And thats is,your life ends just like that.I just dont see this as...fair...

And im sorry but i totally disagree here.Animals are fully capable of taking care of themselves.Infact Humans just make it harder for them to survive. Is this the stewards Humans are?Making it harder to live instead of facilitating there lives?

What about all the ordinary people who don't give a damn about the environment or the world around them? It is not just terrorists (who to be fair want to wipe out most of mankind) or murderers (who are doing pretty much the same thing) that are destroying the environment.
The damage to the Earth is being done but ordinary common or garden people who want plastic bags to transport their shopping home in or the big car in which to get themselves and their families around.
Hunting can actually be quite environmental and in tune with the ecosystem, look at the native American plains Indians who lived the hunter/gatherer lifestyle and were also in tune with the ecosystem around them. Or any other of the hunter/gatherer tribes in the Amazon rain forest say. I think that what you meant to attack was poaching where animals are killed and left for a small portion of the body rather than hunting as a means of providing for yourself, your family and your community.

This is assuming the Bible is actually true and God did give us the task of stewarding the weaker organisms of the planet.
I, being an atheist, do not believe in the Bible, I believe in science.
And science tells me that it is not so. There is zero evidence that the purpose of mankind is to steward this world. Even less that some old man with a beard up in the skies told us so.
We are able to do so, and I think we should, but if someone decides they do not want to, I think that's perfectly fine.
As Skreeran pointed out, we have the power to alter the environment, we have the power to preserve nature.
But we shouldn't confuse the ability with responsibility - that we
can
does not mean that we
have to
.
Let’s put it like this then. You are the father of three girls. You are on vacation while your wife is working. You’re walking through the hot jungle, and all of a sudden a huge spider lands on your neck. The spider, being one of the absolutely most toxic spiders in the world, bites you, and within a minute it has caused total paralysis. You’re dead before help arrives. Is this any more fair?
We utilize tools to defend ourselves (In this case guns), and so does spiders and lizards and all kinds of toxic creatures. In my opinion, biting someone with poisoned teeth isn’t any more fair than shooting them with a gun.
I’m not saying I approve of illegal hunters. Quite the opposite. But you need to take a look at the world without looking through your anti-human glasses, I think. There are things that are bad or unfair that aren't man-made.
Also, there's no lions in the jungle...

Absolutely correct. The average western man causes environmental damage in some degree every day, every week, every year. But I think the majority of the damage is done my multi-billion industrial corporations that want to earn just a little more money, that want to squeeze just a little more production out of their industries.
I definetly agree that something needs to be done about the western way of life if we are to preserve the environment, but I think that the massive industries need to be targeted first.

If you didnt stated your an Atheist i would guess that you are just by reading that bolded thing.I mean seriously its kinda obvious Humans are the stewards. They are far more inteligent then anyother known being on the planet. If you can do something then you are exected to by God,you...you just are.Ofcourse if your an Atheist i wouldnt expect you to undrestand this.

I have to disagree here.Again i say Humans are by far more inteligent then ANY known creature on Earth. They have the knowlagde and technology to cure the deadliest of poisons.I mean some man-made poison could be hard to cure but im 100% Humans can cure ANY animal poison including spider venom.Yes,Humans can also save people who got shot at.But if some %^&*!@# illegal hunter shots and kills an animal with a family and takes his hide no one will give a @#$% for that poor animal and just leave it there, dead with the dreaded bullet in this body.I mean comparing Animals to Humans is just silly to me...
No offense here, ofcourse. And yes there are no Lions in the jungle it was just a random example.

Why does superior intelligence mean responsibility? One could claim that the ants have been chosen to be the workers of the earth because they're so many and so efficent; that would be roughly the same thing. We are smarter than others, as such we must protect them. Were birds chosen to be the singers of the Earth because they sing beautifully? Are the dolphins supposed to be the entertainers of the earth because they love to play and learn new games quickly?
I'm sorry but, as you say, I'm an atheist and you're a believer, I don't think either of us will get around to convincing the other on this :p

Sure, there's a difference. But unless you're actually standing next to someone with an advanced medical kit when you're bitten by the spider, it's basically a death sentence. I heard about a toxin the other day that requires a respirator for 72-120 hours after it takes effect because it completely paralyzes you and your lungs.
Don't misunderstand me, I don't defend illegal hunters and poachers, if I were to decide they'll all be locked up and never see daylight again; but I can't say that I value one life more than another because either died more brutally or without the ability to defend themselves.
What Skreeran says
If you didnt stated your an Atheist i would guess that you are just by reading that bolded thing.I mean seriously its kinda obvious Humans are the stewards. They are far more inteligent then anyother known being on the planet. If you can do something then you are exected to by God,you...you just are.Ofcourse if your an Atheist i wouldnt expect you to undrestand this.Lol.
I could tell you're a religious person just by reading your grammar.
Just kidding, that would be insulting to say. Humans are simply more intelligent animals. We have no obligations. If we decide to preserve the world, it is because we value our home and its beauty, not because the Sky Man told us to. Of course, if you're a religious person, I wouldn't expect you to understand this.
Basically sums up all my thoughts on the matter.

Reverse psychology is nice :0.I guess personal views are personal.Just,i wanna ask,are you religious Skreeran?Or an atheist?
And another thing.Even if you dont believe in ''The Sky Man'' why wouldnt you act as the Steward of Earth?I mean,as you stated dont other people want to preserve this truly beautiful planet?
Edit:To the newcomers, the Sky Man we are referring to is not
Al'Akir

I am very, very atheist.
I do believe in preserving the the Earth, for a multitude of reasons. I just don't believe that we're 'meant' to preserve it. I don't believe we're meant to do anything. And like I said before, people's apathy towards preserving the Earth is sad but understandable, because evolution didn't program us to preserve the Earth. It's programmed us to multiply and multiply with all resources available to us. Evolution does not have foresight.

Correct.
That
is what we're meant to do, killerdinoblood. It is, so to speak, in our blood. We have real, factual, biological proof that this fact, whereas we don't have any factual evidence that we're meant to preserve the earth.

I find Atheism strange really.I have 3 friends who are Atheists (one half atheistic actaully)) and 2 of those friends are terribly afraid of Death since they think that there is this life and this life only. And after they die its all over, they just dissapear. How could you think this? How could you not

You might think my life is cold and empty without the supposed existance of a deity (God) , but it really isn't. Consciousness is nothing a biological process taking place in the brain. When our brain ceases operations, consciousness is lost. I would be happy if we are able to exist after death (À la Stargate-ascension) but as it stands right now, that is more of a fairytale for people afraid of the dark (being Death in this case) than anything else.
Stephen Hawking, one of the smartest men to walk the Earth agrees with me.
I feel the need to say it again; I don't mean to offend you
or
your beliefs, it's great that you believe in a God watching over you and your dearest, but I just don't see how it can be as such.

Oh definetly, I think people who just sit back and watch TV need to take a look at the world around them and help. My point throughout this thread, however, is that they don't
have
to. They haven't been
tasked
to do so.
Yes, Science (and our eyes, quite frankly) proves to us that the earth should be preserved, but we
still
have no "science" proving to us that we are meant to do so.
Also, Global warming is a perfectly natural process that would have occured with or without our interferance. Perhaps slightly slower, but it would have happened eventually.
I, for one, feel the desire to preserve the Earth because
I
, personally, feel connected to nature. Because I WANT to preserve it.
Not because some biologist in Shanghai, China told me so. Not because Sky Man told me so. Because I want to.

Humans have been tasked with protecting the Earth

I personally believe that our life is similar to a computer, we can do a variety of great things and each individual person can affect (or not affect) the world in whatever way they wish, they have the choice to improve the Earth we will live in, do nothing and just watch TV, and everything in between, just like how different software on a computer will give that computer a different purpose. However just like a computer if the CPU, motherboard or any other major components, or in our case our major organs, fail those things are gone, they won't go through a judging of if they did well when they functioned and have their currently worthless components be punished or rewarded for their simply obsolete now.
This is exactly what im talking about.Yes,lets assume a Human is like a computer.A human without a soul is like a computer without a software. The souls is contained in the Material Form that is a body in order to forge its character and to complete its mission, the mission to preserve The Earth.Only then will it find peace.
As to them being afraid of death can you really blame it on them being atheist, humanity has feared death for probably as long as we've been around. People of every race, religion, and upbringing have feared and contemplated what will happen once their time is up. That is the reason I believe that a lot of people turn to religion; people want to believe that there's some great equalizer that Adolf Hitler won't have the same fate in death as say Mother Teresa. I can also say the same thing regarding religion blinding someone, it is great that people believe that good people and deeds won't have the same result as evil deeds and people but letting religion blind you is just as bad as letting anything else blind you. I agree with you though that the world should be bettered and that we humans have a card to play in trying to better or at least slow our negative effects on Earth. But the reason I do good actions isn't because I feel any soul tugging or calling out to me or because I think it'll give me a ticket to heaven once my time here is over but because I believe its the right thing to do.
Death is final.Death is eternal.Death is my realm!-Deathwing reference FTW!
Yes,Religion can blind you, science can blind you, love can blind you, money can blind you.Having too much of anything is always bad.And do you honestly believe that after death Hitler shares the same fate as the example you gave,Mother Teresa?I mean its simply a sin to say they would share the same fate. There must be judgement. You cant just go around and kill masses of people and go away with it.Its prove that God exists.

The mission of the soul is to grow, to become better, so that one day, when it reaches it's full potential, it will be allowed to stand at the side of God and see all that is, will be, and has been.
And pretty much any religion that references the soul thinks the same. I've never seen it say anywhere that the soul is really a piece of Captain Planet.
