Anyone else seen
this
?
Now, I don't just go posting news all the time for sensationalism's sake, but this one's kinda shocking. My dad's a veteran, and if someone kicked in our door, I know he'd be up immediately with a gun to apprehend the threat. I haven't heard anyone else talking about it, and I wanted to hear what everyone else thought about it.

Tragedy really...shouldn't there have been some attempt at communication by the police before the door was kicked in? Also, he was shot 60 times, in my opinion, that is so far overkill that (in my admittedly non-legally trained mind) the families lawyer could probably press criminal charges on the swat team. When 71 shots are fired and 60 of them hit, that implies that the team is hitting what it is shooting at, and kept on shooting after the vet went down.
Also, not letting the paramedics in so they could "clear the house?" With a full swat team you should be able to clear an entire house in 5 minutes no sweat. Definite case of CYA imo.

American veterans are remarkable people. They have tasted blood, got paid to enjoy it and got dumped in your neighbourhood. It is like the metaphor of Plato where a man returns to his society in a cave, after having lived in full light.

Wait, what? 60 times?
1 shot in the leg and they can't escape and will probably fall down on the floor from the pain.
Why do you need to shoot 60 times? Veteran or not, that's crazy.

HE'S MAKING A THREATENING GESTURE! FIRE AT WILL!

This is completely ridiculous. I love how they found nothing illegal either, that totally makes them look like heroes.
I seriously hope that all the officers are punished with maximum ability, whether that be life in prison or the death penalty. There's no need for @#$% like that.
heh their punishment is going to range from a slap on the wrist to a month or 2 on unpaid (or even paid) leave, doubt any will even get fired. Sad but true.

Somebody's a little prejudiced.

This is... something sounds a bit off here. You don't bring in a full SWAT team for drug possesion, and you
sure as hell
don't shoot
sixty
times unless they start firing first. Even in those cases, sixty shots seems very exaggerated. Assuming all 5 SWAT-officers fired a 3-shot burst from a their respective rifle, that's 15 shots. Over 20 bursts will have been fired altogether. Fishy, to say the least.
And, as stated above, you really don't need a full hour to "Clean the house" even if you're taking it very slowly. What did they really think the guy was hiding?

SWAT team is looking for drugs. Someone comes out and points an ASSAULT RIFLE at them. Kiss your ass good bye. If it wasn't a veteran, I doubt you people would be concerned, you would shrug your shoulders and say "He was probably a drug dealer and they just couldn't find the evidence".
Also, you people don't seem to get that you can empty a magazine in a little over a second with a fair number of automatic weapons. 3 officers firing for half a second sounds about the damage that was dealt.
Would be a completely different scenario if he was unarmed. But he had a weapon. It is the officer's DUTY to protect themselves from harm.

It's worth noting the gun was on safe.

Why is there a different angle just because he is a Veteran?
Yes, he may be a Veteran but what if he WAS a drug runner. What if he was involved in illegal activities?
If so, he should be treated the same way as a civilian.

Civilians, even drug runners, should not be pumped full of 60 bullets if they don't shoot first.

And if he wore body armor and kept attempting to get up in a threatening manner....
By all means we can draw conclusions with the information we have. But keep in mind that here is likely much information not yet released to the public.

Welcome to the Internet: Where everyone is an expert.Yes, there's almost certainly more information. But however you spin this, it sounds bad. They basically just broke into a guy's house and assassinated him. They didn't even let the paramedics in for over an hour. There's not a lot of information you can offer that can justify that.
Like I said, part of why I feel so strongly about this is that this could very easily have been my dad. If they'd kicked in my door, my dad would have been the one who was shot 60 times in the presence of his wife and children.
